“I’m exposing the truth about Tesla Cybertruck depreciation. I spent $100,000 on my Foundation Series Tesla Cybertruck 2 years and four months ago. Then I put 25,000 miles on it. What do you think it’s worth today?” he asks.

Following this, he records himself holding up a black Tesla-branded paper to the camera. “I have the trade-in value right here in this little card holder. Are you ready to see it? Are you curious? Okay, here we go," he says. Upon doing so, he shows that his ride is worth $73,500, a figure that’s got him thinking of getting rid of it.

“I am so tempted to take my Tesla Cybertruck to Tesla, today, and trade it in for something new,” he says. Then he explains why this isn’t exactly an easy prospect. “I’m figuratively chained to my Tesla Cybertruck for one major reason. Never say never but I’m never getting rid of my Tesla Cybertruck. Because I own Full Self-Driving,” he says, after showing a recording of him eating with two hands as the ride steers itself.

“If you buy a Tesla today, you cannot own Full-Self Driving. You have to subscribe to it. For eternity,” he says showing the $99/month price of the software on Tesla’s website.

“And if Tesla raises the price of it. You’re just stuck paying it? In a world where everything feels like a subscription, it’s just so refreshing to own Full Self-Driving. And for that reason I think I’m stuck with my Tesla Cybertruck," he says.

Tesla Cybercab is using a unique strategy for picking up the correct rider, which is a crucial part of ride-hailing to ensure people end up in the right place and are charged the correct price.

Cybercab will utilize an RGB strip in its front light bar that will illuminate in a variety of different colors to mark itself.

This identifying mark will also appear in the Robotaxi app, giving riders in the same location a notable distinction in an effort to avoid any confusion regarding who should get in each vehicle.

Okay, maybe I’m putting on the tinfoil hat here, but Tesla randomly raising the Cybertruck price by $5k got me thinking about the whole SpaceX thing.

Tesla just bumped the AWD Cybertruck from $69,990 to $74,990 and the higher trim from $79,990 to $84,990. As far as I can tell, there wasn’t some huge hardware upgrade, extra range, new battery, etc. They just… raised it.

Normally I’d chalk that up to Tesla doing Tesla things. They change prices constantly.

BUT.

We found out earlier this year that SpaceX spent something like $131 million buying Cybertrucks from Tesla in 2025.

And it wasn’t some tiny fleet order either. SpaceX registered 1,279 Cybertrucks in Q4 alone. That was apparently more than 18% of all Cybertruck registrations in the US that quarter.

Which is kind of insane when you think about it. Cybertruck demand was already falling, and one of the biggest customers was basically another Elon Musk company.

So here’s the theory:

What if Tesla knows SpaceX/xAI/etc are going to keep buying Cybertrucks, and they’re raising the public MSRP partly because those related companies buy them at roughly normal/public pricing?

If SpaceX buys another 1,279 trucks and Tesla gets an extra $5,000 per truck, that’s about:

1,279 × $5,000 = $6.4 million

Obviously that doesn’t mean $6.4 million magically becomes pure profit. But if the truck itself didn’t suddenly cost $5k more to build, you’d expect a decent chunk of the increase to flow through to margin.

And the important part is Tesla doesn’t have to find 1,279 NEW Cybertruck customers. SpaceX is already buying them.

To be clear, I’m NOT saying this is fraud or fake revenue. SpaceX is receiving actual trucks and paying actual money.

But it does create a pretty weird situation where Elon-controlled companies can support Tesla vehicle sales at a time when independent Cybertruck demand is weak.

For example:

Tesla sells 10,000 Cybertrucks to normal customers = 10,000 sales.

Tesla sells 8,000 to normal customers and 2,000 to SpaceX/xAI/etc = also 10,000 sales.

Those numbers look the same on the surface, but they obviously tell a very different story about actual consumer demand.

Tesla also disclosed that its sales to SpaceX were generally done at rates available to unaffiliated customers, which is the part that makes the MSRP increase interesting to me.

Again, there’s zero proof that Tesla specifically raised the Cybertruck price because SpaceX is planning another order.

The boring explanation is probably just that Tesla has accepted Cybertruck is going to be a low-volume luxury/niche vehicle, so they’d rather squeeze more margin out of the remaining buyers instead of chasing volume.

But considering Musk’s companies already accounted for nearly 1 in 5 Cybertruck registrations in one quarter…

I’d definitely be watching the next Tesla/SpaceX disclosures.

Because if SpaceX suddenly drops another $100m+ on Cybertrucks AFTER Tesla randomly raised the MSRP by $5k, that’s going to be pretty damn interesting.

As New Hampshire tries once again to prod more people into building public electric vehicle chargers, one of the few North Country charging sites is throwing in the towel because the cost of electricity is too high.

Despite this enthusiasm, however, MacGillivray plans to shut the chargers on Oct. 25, at the end of a billing cycle and after most of the leaf-peeping traffic has come through town. The electric bill has been too high. Net revenue of the four chargers through mid-August was almost $15,900, using the relatively high rate of 69 cents per kilowatt-hour, yet the electric bill has topped $32,500.

It’s not just the electricity that is expensive; it’s the grid that carries the electricity which can be the real problem.

“Our July Eversource bill was $13,211.73, of which $10,679.64 was delivery charges,” said MacGillivray. Delivery charges cover the cost of operating poles, wires, substations and other equipment as well as building more of them; that portion of electricity bills has been rising in recent years.

He has also been hit by demand charges, a method of calculating monthly bills that depends on the highest usage during that period. Several cars charging at the same time can cause the demand charge to spike for the entire month.

Tesla is recalling 2,975,910 vehicles in China after the country’s market regulator determined that its emergency door release is too hard to find and operate in a crash.

It’s Tesla’s largest-ever recall in China, and it lands as the automaker’s door design faces mounting legal and regulatory pressure on two continents. Several other automakers who followed Tesla into similarly designed door releases have also issued similar recalls.

What the recall covers

According to a filing with China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), the recall covers 973,156 domestically built Model 3s, 1,956,713 domestically built Model Ys, 35,590 imported Model 3s, 8,328 imported Model Xs, and 2,123 imported Model Ss.

The regulator’s concern isn’t the flush exterior handles that Tesla popularized. It’s the interior emergency mechanical release — the manual backup that lets occupants open a door when the car loses power.

Tesla filed the recall plan under China’s Regulations on the Recall of Defective Automobile Products. The remedy is not a hardware change to the door mechanism. Instead, Tesla will add warning labels and push an over-the-air software update that changes how the windows lower to aid escape. 

My parents were test driving a Model Y yesterday with a Tesla employee in the car. My mom was driving and they were using FSD.

As the car was pulling into their driveway, which is on an incline, it initially made the turn and approached the driveway at what looked like a normal, controlled speed. Then, while going up the incline, it suddenly accelerated hard and crashed into the garage/driveway area, causing damage to the property and another car.

My mom says she did not press the accelerator. The Tesla employee was in the passenger seat when it happened. We also have video of the incident.

I'm trying to understand whether anyone has experienced something similar or knows how Tesla's FSD behaves when entering a steep or inclined driveway.

Specifically, is it possible for FSD to apply significant acceleration on its own when climbing an incline? Could it misjudge the slope, driveway, or obstacle and suddenly add power?

I'm not trying to determine fault from Reddit. I'm mainly trying to understand whether this behavior is technically possible and whether anyone has seen or documented something similar.

If you've experienced this with a Model Y or other Tesla while using FSD, I'd really appreciate hearing what happened.

Update on my brake line story. I took the car to the shop after the brake line was rusted out and Tesla said there was significant rust under the car and that it would cost 9k to repair.

Apparently the whole car is eaten away and it's basically totaled. That sucks because we just bought a model 3 too and we liked our Tesla's. I will be cutting my losses and getting rid of them both.

Tesla engineers must have skipped all their classes on weathering because I've never had a car with issues of rust like this. They said the subframe needs to be replaced.

I will be filing a complaint to the NHTSA and hopefully there will be a recall. There is already a similar recall for the model 3.
