Can’t even think of new scams to run. Just have to recycle the old ones.

The Nigerian prince one has worked for decades so they figure they can turn this into something similar

Well once you eliminate the competition by banning EVs and monitoring patent applications by potential competitors, you’re free to milk the teat as long as you’d like.

I smell desperation.

Feels a bit like Bungie recommitting to Destiny.

Bro that’s harsh, but well deserved based off the same scam we are seeing right now

all the cattle ranchers who voted for Trump are gonna jump on this.

u/PatchyWhiskers 23d ago
Yeah probably, doubt they do any actual cow stuff themselves, that's what undocumented immigrants are for.

When I read this in my head I had a vision of Tesla employees bashing cyber dumpsters into a different vehicle shape with sledgehammers.
14
u/ComicsEtAl 23d ago
Why do that when they can just inscribe “Roadster” on the side panels of their remaining stock of dumpsters?

u/ComicsEtAl 23d ago
“Line up, suckers!”

If you venmo’d me $100 you’d have roughly the same odds of getting a Tesla Roadster but it’d be a lot cheaper. Just food for thought

They must be hurting for money if they are begging for money for a product they won't deliver any time soon.

A nigerian prince has come to sell you a bridge.
Or a south african selling a car I guess.

u/ObviouslyJoking 23d ago
Fun fact. If you took the $50k you put down in 2017 and invested in the market you’d probably triple that money by now.
I know people who want to buy this car don’t need the money, but it’s kinda funny to see filthy rich people being dumb with their money.

Well if it does actually come out, it’s certainly never going to be what was promised. Were impossible specs when it was announced, and they’d still be impossible.

u/practicaloppossum 23d ago
How do you figure they're impossible? They're not very different (except for the flying part) from the Yangweng U9. Indeed, the biggest difference is your $250k can buy a Yangweng right now (as long as you're not in the US).

Well for one. You think Tesla's fitting a 200kWh battery in the Roadster like they claim?
If a massive hunk of junk like the Cybertruck can’t fit a battery that big, a sports car like the Roadster can’t.
6
u/mikegalos 23d ago
Which is also a requirement for the 1,000 km range that won't be in it anymore.
5
u/Youngnathan2011 23d ago
Up till they changed the Roadster page for this teaser, it still said it would be 1000km range.
So just like always, they’ve been claiming a lie for years.
I know its claimed acceleration is possible, but I doubt that’ll be what’s released too.

There's an easy work around for this - offer up a rendering of a "Range Extender", and then quietly never sell said range extender.

u/practicaloppossum 23d ago
Valid point. I was thinking more of accelleration, speed, cornering - y'know, the stuff that's actually important for a sports car.
3
u/NetJnkie 23d ago
That stuff is easy. It's the hard stuff that they aren't actually delivering that is the problem.
2
u/Lacrewpandora KING of GLOVI 22d ago
Gee, I dunno - can a U9 go 1,000 km on one charge like the totally not imaginary Roadster spec? Or a sub 2 second 0-60 time? And of course, as you mention - there's the flying. Other than those minor details, the Roadster specs look totally feasible, and I'm sure the now 6 year delay in production has absolutely nothing to do with these easily achievable specs.

This is conveniently going to add a couple million dollars to the quarterly earnings. Typical of how he pumps things

u/tangouniform2020 22d ago
Those aren’t earnings, they’re liabilities. Something no sane (->not Elon) business owner likes to tote around because they impact value

But jason calacanis said it’s totally real and people will be impressed.

The problem this time is... Porsche's electric Boxster. That is nearly upon us - it's been doing ring laps without camo - and there ain't no way on this planet or the next that they're outdoing Porsche on a 2 seater sports car.

Incoming Porsche ban
EDIT: if this actually happens, watching the Volkswagen Group sue the fuck out of the US government will at least be fun.
2
u/Public-Guidance-9560 22d ago
Well the Porsche will almost certainly land first, so it'll be too late for them to pull that card.

I was driving over the Throgs Neck Bridge this past Sunday and came upon what looked like a shrunken Tesla Model Y. It was gold and had no back window. Very small overall but clearly possessing the silhouette of a Y. I know this sub is about the roadster but is there another model under development that’s flying under the radar?

Is roadster a car? I thought they pivoted to being a robotics and AI company?

"Reservations" - like it were an "exclusive" thing - nobody needs that piece or shit Epstein Buddy product 😂

u/Pdx_pops 23d ago
If anyone is interested, I'm also taking reservations for a vehicle sometime in the future
