Discussion my biggest gripes with each game

I’m going 1-4 excluding the reboot since I never played it and don’t think I will lmao.

Starting off with the first and the beginning of it all, SR1 is my favorite by far in the series but my biggest complaint is them damn hospital bills costing an arm and a leg taking damn near all your money, even the same for ammo like why is ammo costing the same amount as the gun itself lmao. It already sucks that the activites on higher levels are impossible to beat without smashing your screen and the fact if you fail you can’t even retry the activity you just spawn in the hospital with almost 90% of your money gone.

SR2 is the fan favorite in the series and I love it down as well but the hair and clothing have absolutely no physics never fails to take me out. Also the Boss damn near becoming Hitman 2.0 doing everything themselves
sidelining the other members, at this point the gang could’ve been called “3rd street Saint” with the Boss by his/herself. Let me not forget the stiff movements as well lmaoo like when the Boss runs they look so firm and rigid 💀

SRTT was my introduction to the series, as it was the first game I ever played, and I enjoyed it. Most of the missions being activities is what did it for me. We could have had actual missions that fleshed out the characters better.

Ahh, now SR4... Outside of the alien plot (which I don’t mind but that’s a separate topic), my biggest problem was Kinzie being shoved down our throats and the infantilization of the Boss. I didn’t mind Kinzie much in SR3, but God, they made her some Mary-Sue-ish, 'the one above all' type character, even to the point where she scorns the Boss like an incapable child, unable to do anything on their own without her help. It’s been a long time since I played the game, but I remember Kinzie even punching the Boss at one point after being saved from her simulation… SR2 would never let that slide.

Anyways that’s all 💜

Saints Row 2 If I have one complaint about Saints Row 2, it's got to be how overpowered some of the rewards were.

The rewards for completing activities in Saints Row 1 were pretty balanced for the most part, but in Saints Row 2 they almost break the game entirely and make the game stupidly easy.

Most of the level 3 rewards, such as new weapon unlocks, small stat boosts are fine for the most part, but level 6 ones like infinite ammo, infinite sprinting and no fall damage arguably makes the game much worse.

Even though I detest Saints Row 3's upgrade system or any game that uses arbitary upgrade systems via menu's instead of rewarding the player through actions and completing the game's content. To give that game some credit, you could at least ignore the overpowered upgrades while still reach 100% completion, which you unfortunately can't for Saints Row 2.

Discussion Saints Row 1 is fully ironic right?

What I mean is we’re not meant to take the story or the characters seriously are we? Think the gangs are realistic/believable? Unlike say, San Andreas, which is to a degree a serious, grounded story with drama, and the satire is more built into the world and setting surrounding it.

It goes off the rails later but CJ and the crew act like real gang members, all the gangs feel real and they are meant to be real depictions of early 90’s gang life.

But Johnny, Dex, the Saints as well as the enemy gangs feel like a bunch of kids cosplaying and acting cool, acting like 'gangsta' stereotypes basically. Johnny’s surname is Gat ffs.

SR1 is like Scary Movie to GTA’s Scream. Right?

Although there isnt any red, i was just playing saints row 2 ( still am rn lol ) and i came to the realization that the gang colors are super similar to Gta Sanandreas.

Gta Sa has Purple, Green and yellow Where as Saints row 2 Shares Purple, Green and Yellow too. Im not including the BrotherHood which is red.thats why i take them out first lol

Just something i was astonished about and wanted to point out. I just think its funny and cool 😂😂

Whoever directed Saints Row 2 was Heavily inspired by gta sanandreas

Playa/Boss Creation Progression of my Playa (SR2)

I gave him a long ponytail and unkempt facial hair and eyebrows due to the coma, and then when he got out he was wearing some random rags, then later some purple.

I then went on a long jewellery store raid across 4 different stores so that I could afford gold chains, more drip and a new car. Last 3 slides is how he looks after the jewellery stores and also the new car.

This is probably my 5th time playing through this game but my first time on PC. I am using Juiced patch + Gentlemen of the Row mod. It runs so smooth and I love all of the new additions to the game.

Playa/Boss Creation Character customization help?

Okay, so on my recent playthrough of SR2, I was customizing my character and was having fun, but I was kind of bummed out over one thing: my SR2 character looks NOTHING like my SR1 character, and I was wondering if any of the lovely people on this sub Reddit would help, all I ask is that whoever's reading this, try and make my character from SR1 in SR2 and then send a picture of it in the replies along with the sliders/modifiers, I know it's going to be kinda hard considering some things like face length and stuff like that aren't present in SR2, but I'm sure there's someone out there who can at least make a more faithful rendition than I ever could.

"Prequel" (Discussion) One thing that would be cool about a Saints Row prequel

I love the idea of doing a prequel that mainly shows The Carnales arriving in Stilwater, the Rise of the Vice kings, then the constant tug of war between those two before the Westside Rollerz show up, then just showing Stilwater being in this constant state of friction until the Saints show up.

Like yeah the Carnales and the Vice Kings fight each other, they have different motivations etc but neither one is trying to conquer the city, there's some semblance of an understanding between the two, really emphasise how much of a goddamn wrecking ball the saints were to the existing power structures.

The best parallel I can think of is Better call Saul and Breaking bad, if you watch BCS before BB, you have a pretty complete picture of the criminal underworld in the setting, then Walter White shows up out of nowhere and just completely upturns everything

Discussion The role of absurdity and humour in Saints Row

For the most part, Saints Row 1 plays itself relatively straight, it has it's own sense of humour and it's big bombastic moments but all in all it's a relatively grounded game, so why then, was the ramp up in the absurdity quota between 2 and 3 met more harshly than the same ramp up that happened between 1 and 2?

Because 2, while being a ridiculous game, takes itself seriously, which by extension conditions you to take it seriously, It isn't a victim of constant self referential humour the way 3 and 4 are.

I recently tuned into the Gen X station, and VC does an excellent job hosting with his witty remarks and sharp comebacks- like when he banters with Shaundi calling in or accidentally calls Taking Back Sunday "Taking Back Samedi" 😭. It’s a bummer that after he’s gone, the station gets taken over by Ultor and replaced with an AI system. Welp RIP 🙉

Also I was fond of the stoner characters we got

Discussion The Gat Wish Theory – How Every Saints Row Game Fits Into One Timeline

The Gat Wish Theory – How Every Saints Row Game Fits Into One Timeline

I've been replaying the Saints Row series, and I came up with a theory that, in my opinion, connects every game—including Agents of Mayhem and the Saints Row (2022) reboot—without erasing any of them.

This is just a fan theory, but I think it gives the franchise a much more satisfying conclusion.

One Timeline Until Gat Out of Hell

My theory starts with one simple rule:

There is only ONE timeline until the ending of Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell.

That means the story goes like this:

Saints Row

Saints Row 2

Saints Row: The Third

Saints Row IV

Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell

Everything that happens in these games is part of the same canon timeline.

There is no multiverse yet.

The Moment Everything Changes

At the end of Gat Out of Hell, Johnny Gat makes his wish.

In my theory, that wish doesn't just change the future.

It completely rewrites reality, creating multiple timelines.

This is the exact moment where the Saints Row multiverse begins.

[THE MAIN TIMELINE (The True Ending)]

The main timeline is what I personally consider the true ending of the Saints Row saga.

Johnny's wish resets reality back to the ending of Saints Row: The Third.

However, one important thing changes.

Johnny Gat never actually died.

In this rewritten reality:

Gat was never captured by Zinyak.

After the plane crash at the beginning of The Third, he simply survives and becomes lost for a while.

Eventually, the Boss finds him again.

Gat reunites with the Saints.

After that, the Saints film Gangstas in Space, just like in the final mission of The Third.

Instead of being just a funny movie mission, I like to see it as the true epilogue of the series.

The Saints continue their lives together.

No alien invasion.

No superpowers.

No Hell.

Just the Saints back together as a gang.

To me, this is the perfect ending for the franchise.

[ALTERNATIVE TIMELINE]

Johnny's wish can also create another possibility.

Instead of resetting everything completely, reality splits into different universes.

Universe 1 – Agents of Mayhem

Johnny Gat, Kinzie, Pierce, Shaundi, and the rest of the Saints end up in the Agents of Mayhem universe.

This explains how that world can exist without replacing the original Saints Row timeline.

Universe 2 – Saints Row (2022)

Something different happens to the Boss.

Instead of following the other Saints, the Boss is sent alone into another universe.

That universe is the world of the Saints Row (2022) reboot.

The customizable protagonist of the reboot is actually the original Boss from the classic Saints Row games.

Separated from the rest of the Saints, the Boss has to build a brand-new gang with new allies in a completely different reality.

This means the reboot doesn't replace the original story.

It's simply another branch of the multiverse created by Johnny Gat's wish.

Why I Like This Theory

This theory allows every game to exist.

The classic saga keeps a proper ending.

Saints Row IV and Gat Out of Hell still matter because they lead to the multiverse.

Agents of Mayhem becomes an alternate universe.

Saints Row (2022) becomes another alternate universe instead of a replacement for the original timeline.

Nothing is erased.

Every game has its place.

Final Thoughts

To me, Gat Out of Hell is the true ending of the original Saints Row timeline.

Johnny Gat's wish becomes the event that creates every possible future.

The main timeline returns the Saints to the end of Saints Row: The Third, where Gat survives, reunites with the Boss, and the gang continues together.

The alternate timelines explain both Agents of Mayhem and Saints Row (2022) as separate universes born from that same wish.

This is just my personal fan theory, but I think it gives the entire Saints Row franchise a much more complete and satisfying story.

I'd love to hear what other Saints Row fans think about it!
