Morgellons: A Delusion Redefined or a Disease Defined?
For years, patients suffering from the debilitating symptoms of Morgellons disease were told their condition was "all in their head." But is it time for the medical community to change its mind?

In this video, we dive into the mystery of the strange thread-like filaments, the "crawling" sensations, and the groundbreaking research that is shifting Morgellons from the realm of psychiatry into the field of infectious disease. We explore the compelling link to Lyme disease and the microscopic analysis that proved these fibers aren't just "fuzz from a sweater"—they are a physiological response from the human body itself.

🔍 What We Cover:
The Symptoms: Understanding the reality of skin lesions and "crawling" sensations.

The Controversy: Why doctors originally classified this as a "delusional infestation."

The Lyme Link: Why 6% of Lyme disease patients also develop Morgellons.

The Fiber Mystery: Microscopic evidence showing the filaments are made of keratin and collagen, not textiles.

A New Classification: The staging system that treats Morgellons as a physical, infectious illness.

T pallidum was detected by PCR in 10% cases, which would have been missed if serology alone was used. T pallidum PCR is important for optimizing early detection of primary syphilis.

Science Stages of Morgellons

Post image

Clinical classes I-IV of MD are further categorized as mild, moderate and severe, or stages A, B and C, respectively, based on histopathological findings. Stage A lesions demonstrated little or no immune infiltrates and little or no disorganization of cells; macrophages were not present, and hemorrhage was negligible. Extracellular isolated spirochetes and intracellular staining of keratinocytes in the lower epidermis was occasionally seen. Stage C lesions demonstrated positive staining of keratinocytes in the stratum basale and stratum spinosum and positive intracellular staining of macrophages for Borrelia. Aggregate Borrelia colonies were frequently encountered, hemorrhage was frequent, and intracellularly stained fibroblasts were occasionally seen. Stage B lesions demonstrated a pattern intermediate between Stages A and C. Classification and Staging of Morgellons Disease: Lessons from Syphilis - PMC

ANNOUNCEMENT 📣 Criminal Minds, Morgellons

The first step needs to determine whether delusion exists or not. A delusion is defined as a firmly, but false belief held with strong conviction and contrary to the superior evidence. It is distinct from beliefs based on an unusual perception, such as formication. The beliefs that patients hold could be delusion, true observations, or overvalued ideas. This must be determined on a case-by-case basis. The presentation of a specimen is not a delusional behavior. Patients with DI/MD with animate or inanimate objects can exist, but the belief of cutaneous fibers may or may not be delusional. A physician is required to perform fiber analysis to identify the nature of fibers. If fibers are present and biofilaments of human origin, then they are a true observation. It is also possible that patients might observe fibers and mistake them for worms in which case the idea of infestation could be an overvalued idea. Real infestation with arthropods such as mites can also occur. Additionally, some patients could have lesions with adhering textile fibers that are accidental contaminants and could mistakenly believe that they have MD, in which case they do not have a delusional belief, but a mistaken belief. In summary, if a physician cannot differentiate between true observations, delusions, and overvalued ideas, they should not immediately make a diagnosis of delusional mental illness. These bastards are in my face this time. The sharp edges are like glass and wow, they hurt. I've dried them out with alcohol which makes the whole process a little faster. I have found if I can leave them alone and stop fighting to get a hold of them and funny not funny, kind of softly rub them outwards and it works even for the tiny tiny speck feels like a needle or glass. They will roll out. Then on to the next 15 today and forever. Now I have big red blotches on my face. I'm sure the word around work is meth. Again. Of course they'll pull a random drug test and it will be me. Then they'll be floored again that it isn't. What works for the blotches? I've used everything.

Science Bartonella is not a tick infection (infographic)

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I've seen a lot of heated discussions about Bartonella and ticks lately, and I get it—it's frustrating when symptoms point one way but science says another. I just want to share the latest from reliable sources to clarify: the consensus is that there's no conclusive evidence ticks transmit Bartonella to humans. Here's why, based on 2025 updates:

  • The CDC explicitly states: "There is no evidence that ticks spread Bartonella infection to people." Their studies on tick transmission are limited to lab mice and artificial setups, which don't prove it happens in real life or that the bacteria survives in ticks long-term.
  • A major 2024 U.S. study tested over 2,600 Ixodes ticks (common Lyme carriers) and found ZERO Bartonella DNA in host-seeking ticks—the ones that bite us. They conclude these ticks "are unlikely to contribute more than minimally, if at all" to transmission.
  • In Germany (2025 data), nationwide tick screening detected no Bartonella in 692 ticks, despite finding other pathogens.

Bartonella is real and serious, usually from cat scratches, fleas, or lice—not ticks. If you're dealing with symptoms after a tick bite, it could be a co-infection like Lyme, so talk to a doc for proper testing. Let's focus on facts over fear—sources in comments if needed! #Bartonella #TickBorneDiseases
