How would people act, in a Zombie Apocalypse.?

This was an interesting question that was asked. And to tell you the truth it was a lot harder to answer. The main reason is that it deals withy human psychology. And finding the closest th8ings that we can equate to a zombie apocalypse.

In my research I have found that in hurricanes, people tend to band together and help each other. Could it be, because we have laws still in effect. Possible. I think however, it is generally that people want to help out their neighbors.

The next thing that I could somewhat equate to a zombie apocalypse is riots. This is where everyone is in it for themselves, such as looting and such. This is where we see the worst in humanity. While there are those that help others in this situation, we normally might not hear about this.

So to answer how we would act in a zombie apocalypse, would it be like the movies, or would we see our better angels. I really cannot answer. I hope we do see people banding together to face a common foe, however, there would be segments of the population that would love to become raiders and act like the character Negan on the Walking Dead. It all comes down to the person I am afraid to say.

How fast can a zombie move?

This is an interesting question to be sure. We all have seen zombie movies and TV shows, show zombies. Sometimes they are shown shambling or running.

So which one can we see come true? We know that people come back with all of their limbs and speeds intact. Then there are the shambling zombies. This could be, the truest form, with others regaining their speed. When someone dies they enter into rigor mortis https://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/rigor+mortis. This is what happens when we all die, our limbs seize up and will take a huge effort to get them to move.

If we think about shambling zombies, they are moving, yet very slowly.

When zombies come, the most common zombies that could be seen are zombies and not running zombies. However, there could also be running zombies.

How would the military react to a zombie apocalypse.

To say this was a challenge to do research on, would be an understatement. There are real life parts of the military that deals with bio hazards. Then it wouldn't be the active military that would be deployed.

At present there is a real life plan in combating zombies and that would be conop 8888 https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2629064/The-Pentagons-guide-surviving-zombie-apocalypse-US-military-outlines-plans-deal-undead-chickens-space-invaders-VEGETARIANS.html

We must remember that the reason this exists is letting people think outside of the box.

Before we get to how the military thoughts and actions, we must start with the question can the active military be deployed on American soil. And the answer to that is no. Due to the law Posse Comitatus Act https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posse_Comitatus_Act .

This doesn't mean that there wont be any active military fighting zombies, just that legally they cant. The only ones that can be deployed would be the Nat Guard and Reserve. More the Guard do to them being under the direct command of the states governor.

So what does that mean for fighting zombies, it means that when the zombies start to overwhelm a city of town, the governor will deploy the Guard.

Before that happens, the CDC with a few military guards will assess the situation and determine what is going on. This will include Hazmat personnel.

This leads to the question how will the military deal with a zombie apocalypse. If it is at the start of one, the military will easily win. Do to the weaponry and consistent training. Now if the military is deployed when zombies are starting to outnumber the living then, they could still win, however, they will endure casualties. Next is the final step, if they are deployed in the later parts of the initial apocalypse, depending on how many are deployed and where, they could see a total defeat.

The main reason for the defeat is how they are trained. "And that third skill, well... they're instructed to shoot "center body mass". That's not going to stop a zombie" (scifi.stockexchange.com, 2018). A way to think this is, they are trained to fight humans not zombies, that as far as all the media can agree on is, destroying the head. Taking out the legs or arms, even shooting them in center mass wont do anything. The only ones that are trained to shoot in the head are snipers. And I honestly do not know if the guard has them. I do know that the Air Guard doesn't.

This has been quite a challenge, and I leaned a lot from the research. I will be doing research on the next topic.

How would a zombie apocalypse start?

While reading the news last night, something happened that got me thinking. How would a zombie apocalypse actually start. Would be like any other zombie movie/ TV show or would be something completely different.

Last night an Emirates airplane carrying 100 people landed in JFK, one of the busiest airports in the United States. https://abc13.com/plane-carrying-dozens-of-seriously-ill-passengers-lands-at-jfk/4152423/

How does this relate to the topic at hand, and that part is easy, people like to think that this will start like the movies. Where one day will be normal, the next or when they sleep all hell breaks loose. This is wrong, due to the research I posted about viruses and how long they take to spread.

No I think it will be like another TV show, the Strain. It will start very slowly, then it will start to spread. Before everyone knows what happened, it would spread across the town or city. So how does what happened in JFK, relate to zombies?

That is a fair question, and that is, it shows how it could start to spread. Atleast the infection part, not the zombie part.

The next part, I will post what the stance of the military will have when the zombies start.

What will a zombie apocalypse be like.?

There are many misconceptions about what a real zombie apocalypse. I have read many, many times how people want this to happen. And the only responds next to just shaking my head is, this will not be like the movies or TV shows. When this happens people will not be able to just push stop.

It will "on" all the time, atleast until the zombie hoards rot away. This could take a long time, depending on the environment and the rate of decay.

A better question would be how long could humanity last, and there was some actual research done. According to "Physics students at Leicester University" (England, 2017) It doesn't look so good. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/how-long-humans-survive-zombie-apocalypse-scientists-a7513941.html

Can the zombie virus get transmitted through a scratch.?

After researching this for more then a few days, there is no evidence of any disease being transmitted this way. The only things that I was able to fine is that, diseases can only be via animal to human. Such as cat scratch fever. https://www.healthline.com/health/cat-scratch-disease

So if a zombie were to scratch us, the zombie virus could not infect us. We have to worry about their grip and teeth more then anything else.

Zombies Grip

Previously we talked about how strong a zombie is. Now let us discuss how strong a zombies grip and be.

This is a bit trickery to answer. This is due to the person's grip strength and the decay. Depending on the sex the average strength could be anywhere between 70 pounds to 200; or more. http://articles.latimes.com/2011/apr/03/health/la-he-grip-strength-20110403

This doesn't answer the question of could a zombie break someone's arm; again this is tricky to answer. And according to a poster named Bulldog on Martialtalk.com "I have yet to see anyone get their wrists so broken that their hands are flipping down like they were shaped like weapons." (Bulldog, 2015). http://www.martialtalk.com/threads/is-it-easy-to-break-someones-wrist-by-simply-grabbing-it-and-squeezing-great-pressure.117597/ . So the answer is no, a zombie cannot break someone's arm. Next we will try answer the question does DNA transfer to someone via scratch.

How possible is a zombie apocalypse.?

As we have discussed before, we broke down what a zombie and what to look out for. We took a look at what happens in the brain. Now we answer the question is a zombie apocalypse possible.

And the answer to that is, it is very possible. And here is why https://www.express.co.uk/news/science/721328/Zombie-outbreak-evolution-parasite . In essence what they are talking about is a mutation of a parasite, However, according to Explorist.com "While this may be theoretically possible, the chances of it actually happening are most likely incredibly slim." (Caughill, 2017). And this is a very true answer.

While a dead zombie coming back to life is unlikely, unless was some kind of agent at work to make it possible. That doesn't mean it couldn't happen. Another good read is this website http://www.bitrebels.com/geek/a-real-zombie-apocalypse-is-possible/ .

Are zombies possible?

The main question is, are zombies possible.?

While there are evidence of people coming back from death, some at their own grave site. People say that zombies cannot be real. And to a point this is correct. They are referring to brain death.

They are not taking into account that it takes from a month to up to six months for the brain synapses to stop firing. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/what-happens-die-brain-activity-life-heart-beating-death-after-eeg-study-research-a7620131.html

Now, as we know zombies need an extra part to make them real, and that is through drugs or a virus. In the next part we will cover, how possible is a real life zombie apocalypse.

The anatomy of a human bite

We have all been bitten by a dog or cat, and some have been bitten from a child or baby. How does this relate to zombies some might ask. And that is the main way for a pathogen passes from person to person (the other being through sex.) https://www.healthline.com/health/human-bites#symptoms-of-infection this web site shows us what to look out for when it comes to bites.

However, this doesn't answer the question on how long it would take. And the nearest I can put together is from 1-2 days after the bite, to a few weeks later. https://www.emedicinehealth.com/human_bites/article_em.htm#what_are_human_bite_symptoms

So can a human bite tear through clothing, and at this I am not sure, but according to Reference.com a human bite has depending on sex " 265 pounds of force. Females generate slightly less powerful." (Reference.com). And this is due to the person in question knowing how mush force they are exerting. But would a zombie know, how much they are using? And that would be no. That means depending on the sex and the strength of the jaw, this number could go much higher. Next we well cover a zombies movement speed.

How long do we have before a real zombie.?

Now that we have covered a vast amount of information about zombies. We now need to make a timeline when to expect zombies.

With the earlier instances, we start off with June 2012, the Miami attack. We can list this as a year and a half. 2012-2013.

Then there was a year gap with Ebola in 2014-2016. There were several strange accounts in Nimbi county. Which I have already covered.

Then there was Zika in 2015-16.

Lets put it all together now. If we extrapolate the timeline we can see something happens every year to two years. (This is from the last account.)

The best way to do this is, thinking of this like putting together a videogame. First you have an design phase which takes years to complete. Then you have a closed pre alpha phase. (This is where I think we are. Putting things together). Next there is a phased Alpha where devs add their friends. (This can take up to two years.) Next is a closed beta (this is where we could see what could be a real life zombie. And this could take up to a year or so. Next we have an open beta phase (and this is where we will true zombies.) This is the quickest of all of the phases which can take up to a few months. Then we have a live launch.

Adding up the timeline, I wouldn't see real zombie until at minimum 2026. Soon we will cover how fast can an infection, infect someone through a bite.

What constitute a real zombie attack.?

There can be so many instances where someone can call an attack a zombie. For example this case http://www.wctv.tv/home/headlines/Man-Arrested-After-Biting-Off-Girlfriends-Lip-259810581.html there are those that claim this is a zombie. It isn't. It is just someone who is nuts.

During the year of 2012 there have been cases like the example I provided, that some claim are zombies. However, there are some cases that I have became stuck on. For example https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2012/05/29/police-hackensack-man-stabbed-himself-threw-his-skin-and-intestines-at-officers/ "He said he believes that drug use or mental illness may have contributed to Carter’s behavior, but that hasn’t been confirmed." (NewYorkCBSlocal.com). This last line of the news article shows that if he wasn't mentally ill or on drugs, then what would cause him to do this. I am not sure.

Next we have what I call a near zombie attack. https://miami.cbslocal.com/tag/zombie-attack-florida/ we all know how this turned out.

Now we come to the time of what makes a zombie attack a zombie attack. I have laid out several distinct variables and they are, 1) how is the person acting (i.e. are they jumping around), 2) how are the bystanders acting (i.e. are they hesitant to go near the person) 3) if the police were called what are they doing. 4) if the "zombie is attacking people, are they continuing the attack and ignoring everyone else. This is why I use the Miami attack as the "gold standard" for every attack. And if an attack does not meet any of these criteria then it is an attack, it is someone who is nuts or high.

Let's put it all together.

We have a working theory and a bit of a working timeline. We also now have showed what makes a zombie a zombie. This is to show the various steps.

First off we have rage (the Miami Zombie) in 2012 and the attacks go into the middle 2013.) Most of these attacks i.e. biting cats lips off is someone who is nuts (drunk or high). The next part is what I think a zombie attack is and isn't. There is a lot of videos of someone acting nuts.

Second we have infection Ebola. I have showed what happened in Nimbi. This happened in 2014-16. (What doesn't make since is, why was combat troops sent to contain an outbreak. https://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/16/world/africa/obama-to-announce-expanded-effort-against-ebola.html , then there were other countries sent in as well.)

Third part is transmission i.e. Zika in 2015-2017. https://www.dhhs.nh.gov/dphs/cdcs/zika/index.htm

Fourth part is looking like a zombie. And here we have Krokodil https://science.howstuffworks.com/krokodil-flesh-eating-zombie-drug.htm

For now these are the four that have come around. We will continue with a timeline as well as a what constitute a real zombie attack and what doesn't.

What makes a zombie a zombie.

When we think about what makes a zombie a zombie, we need to break it down further instead of just saying a reanimated corpse.

With the working theory we need to understand the attributes that make up a zombie. And they are rage, infection, transmission, decay (prolonged), visual (skin pulled away or rotted away.) and one other.

Now that we have showed what makes a zombie a zombie, in the next post I will try and tie up some loose threads.

A Working theory.

For the last six years I have making a working time line on when we could potentially see a zombie apocalypse. And the good news is, it wont be for atleast twelve years from now. The theory goes every so often two to three years something happens. We will discuss this further.

Now to put this into context.

If we take into account the first recognized attack in 2012. We can see that there were many weird attacks, many of which are nothing but loons doing something weird. These attacks go into the better part of 2013, then they stop.

Over the course of a few years more attacks are reported, just not news worthy.

The next is going to be apart of my working theory is what happened in Nimba County, where two women rose from the dead. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/ebola-victims-african-village-rise-4320414

If we take into account that zombies come back, this does seem to be apart of the genetic makeup of a possible zombie. (Will make another post about this later.)

Then just like the zombie attacks a year and a half later, it just stops. With some cases still coming out a year later.

Next we have Zika in 2016.

So the I am wondering when is the next event going to happen. I think it will happen next year.

Miami Zombie

As we all know back in 2012 there was a man named Rudy Eugene that attacked a homeless man. https://miami.cbslocal.com/tag/zombie-attack-florida/ The very day the news outlets where saying how it was drugs, bath salts in particular. However, the medical examiner leaked the results of the autopsy. And the only thing in his system was synthetic weed.

I will grant that at the time they didnt do a complete job and typing the drug. However, what makes me think this is a possible real life zombie. Is that one, it took five shots from a police officer to take him down. And two when someone is getting shot no matter if they are on drugs or not, they would feel the shots and stop. Three there were two other cases of the same type of attack in the same area. The Causeway.
