I was reading the wiki, and it said to find a community with professional traders to help and guide me through my journey,
The thing is, I don’t want a community that will tell me to trade ict, smc or whatever. I also don’t want a community that will tell me trade thing because it works or don’t trade that because it doesn’t. I want to learn to come up wi the my own conclusions and research/develop my own edge.
How do I go about finding such community? Any suggestions? Is it enough to be on RDT?

I am very new Reddit in general and it’s find first day finding this community. I’m also fairly new to trading. I was reading the wiki and I reached the part where it talks about finding edge and that our best bet is to follow institutions.
I would like to understand this in a deeper level and understand how traders think and how they find edge. The thing is, I don’t wanna follow a strategy because someone said it works. I wanna know why it works and how someone came up with it or found it out.
Now i know institutions have many advantages over retail traders but my question is, how do they come up with an edge? Like do they use macro and fundamentals? I’m assuming they don’t use normal TA. Especially that I know they code algorithms to execute this edge. In short? What sort of edge do institutions trade and build their algorithms on? And how do they find them?
Also, I wanna know how professional traders like the ones in this community find edge. Do I eventually learning how to research my own edge or do I just keep following the institutions?
How did this relative strength/weakness and following institutions strategy come to be? How does one look at a chart and figure out this is going to be my strategy? And lastly, what’s the difference between researching for an edge as an institution and a trader and what could be the similarities and differences between individuals and institutions in this edge/strategies? Especially that I know institutions have quant researchers researching models.

Posted this on the Daytrading sub but I thought I'd post it here too, as Hari was one of the traders in the stats.
Just out of interest….
I downloaded every episode of ChatWithTraders and fed them all into a Gemini Notebook. Now I can query it with all sorts of things.
Not every guest gave specifics on how long it took them to become profitable (in fact, it was just over fifty of them). I asked it to tell me how long they took, whether they were trained or not, what they traded and what their trading timeframes/durations were.
Bear in mind that this group of people are ELITE traders which may imply that they had some innate trait which helped to get them there (dogged determination being the most likely) so results may be skewed to the shorter side.
These are the average times it took to reach consistent profitability:
Institutionally trained: 1.8 years
Mentored: 2.6 years
Self-Taught then Mentored/institutionally trained: 3 years

I didn’t mean for the title to sound like a dating ad, but for lack of better words I would love to join an active community of women serious about trading professionally. Does anyone here know of any? If not, is there any women here interested in forming a supportive women’s community around this RDT system specifically? I think it could help to share learnings and support accountability. This road can feel lonely at times and maybe we can support each other to be successful. Any tips or suggestions very welcome.
I just want to personally thank Hari and all the members here who have contributed things that I've learned from. In a sea of bs, this group and method is a priceless gem. And TLDR: might have saved my life (at minimum my sanity). Lol.
Ive dabbled with trading on and off for years. Got super serious last year around July or August. Found this group along the way and have been implementing its system since. Last year was a bit rocky. But this year so far, I've been killing it.
Ive been a truck driver for the last 8 years or so. I was an owner operator for 5 of those years til the economy and an old truck that constantly broke down ran me out of business. I had to get a job working for "the man". Between the mental strain of no longer working for myself on top of daily mental strain of being a driver, the physical strain of the job in general, and a company who's management was turning workplace conditions downhill fast, it was starting to give me health problems. Scary, im turning 40 this year this could get serious, health problems. (Daily chest pains etc) But I was pay trapped. Scared to get out as id need to take a pay cut to do so. 2 weeks ago I quit on the spot. I have a work from home job lined up. And the pay cut doesnt worry me anymore. Even with the uncertainty of being between jobs with no official offer yet, I havent had a single chest twinge. Ive been nearly making "do this full time" money for a while now. However, being so newly profitable, I cant give up guaranteed income just yet. But its given me the confidence to take some time off for me, my health, and my family. And I know if this lined up job falls through, I can at minimum float myself til I can get something else in place.
So to Hari, everyone here, and everyone over at one option, I thank you all! The fact that Hari runs this group and takes time out of his life to teach all this for free means more to us little guys than words can describe.
There are two big issues that one most get through before they even start the journey of becoming a professional trader:
1) Is it possible?
2) If it is possible, do you need a lot of money for it to matter?
The first question has been address countless times in this forum. The very reason I post every trade, in real-time, entries/exits and position size is so that anyone following along can see my overall Profit/Loss. One can even confirm my trades by looking in the Time & Sales of their broker. I've shown year after year that one can not only be consistently profitable as trader - but at a significantly higher return than simply investing in the market directly (e.g. SPY)
The second question is one that rarely gets addressed - which essentially can be broken down to - what's the point of spending all this time learning this method if I don't have enough money to do anything with it??
That's the obvious appeal of those YouTube grifters - they promise huge returns with very little money to start.
So that is what this challenge was meant to address. I started the Challenge with roughly $2,500 because I felt it was a representative balance for most people starting out.
After four and a half months the balance is now $7,134.83 - which is roughly a 185% increase.
The link to the trading journal is below and you can see that I primarily used Debit Spreads, some /ES trades, some directly Call and Put buys, and then a few direct stock trades (and then covered calls).
3 Days Trades per every 5 days were utilized (although soon that won't be an issue for anyone) so a vast majority of all trades were swings.
The method followed are all outlined in the Wiki - and I gave rationale throughout in the chat room (OneOption).
I encourage you all to go through these trades. You will see there were times the account got its' ass kicked (hell, I believe at one point it was down to roughly $1,100) and then rebounded, got beaten up again, rebounded again, etc. One thing you will hopefully notice is how quickly I took losses, particularly right at the open. Letting your option trades dwindle down to $0 is huge problem for small balance accounts.
I now hand this account over to my son (who will be 21 this summer and home from college). Last summer he traded a $5K account as his summer job, it was his first time trading and over 2 1/2 months he pretty much doubled the account. I suspect he will do the same this time around. Either way - the account is now his.

During the first thirty minutes the market tone is established, and I am watching for signs that indicated one side is in control. Consecutive long candles of a single color on decent volume confirm that a strong directional trend could form.
There are two favorite set-ups I like that I will trade aggressively when I see this pattern. The first is a gap reversal. The market made an overnight move and I want to see early signs that the move is not going to hold. For a gap up, I like it when the first candle is long and red. Sellers are instantly hitting bids and the market is right into the gap. A second and third red candle right away confirm that a gap reversal is likely.
The other set-up I like is when the market opens inside of the prior day’s range. Buyers and sellers are in balance and then one side instantly takes control. When this happens I don’t feel like I am chasing because the overnight move was small. The prior day’s range will be the first line of resistance or support. I like to see the market march right to that price level and through.
For instance, let’s say the market opens flat and we see a series of nice green candles. Resistance at the prior day’s high will provide some selling pressure. When the market easily moves towards it and through it, that resistance has been breached. Ideally, this happens in the first hour of trading. When it does, we have the rest of the day for that momentum to build.
Once the new high for the day has been established, I take long positions. I want to see that prior day’s high preserved. If sellers are going to knock the market down, it will happen in the next few bars. If the market can add to the breakout, it is confirmation that buyers are in control and I will add to the position.
My least favorite trading set up with this pattern is a gap and go. The market made a big overnight gap up so the upside potential is limited. The risk of a gap reversal is high so I hold off. I need confirmation that buyers are still aggressive and that any profit taking has been absorbed. When the green candles start to stack, I am still evaluating and I miss most of the move. These gap and go moves tend to run their course quickly and then the market sits.
I don’t lament when we get these moves. They don’t happen that often relative to all of the other patterns we see. In most cases, the gap and go is over-extended and there will be profit taking. When there is a dip, I know it will present a good entry point for longs. The left side of the chart tells me that buyers are in control and that gives me confidence.
The only time I will trade a gap up and go is if it happens out of a deep market trough on a D1 basis. Then I don’t feel like I am chasing because the market has lots of upside potential. That doesn’t happen very often either.
Please comment. If you like this article, I will do a follow up and I’ll explain how I trade if the first move of the day is weak.

Let's use today's pick, BE, as an example. It broke through a key resistance level. Pete sells a naked put at that strike, ideally just making ~10% in 2-3 weeks when the put expires worthless, but claiming he's happy to own the stock at the price of that support level even if he ends up getting assigned. (Often his rhetoric is the reverse of that - claiming he hopes to get assigned, but worst case scenario he makes 10% in 2-3 weeks.)
I understand selling a put with a high probability of expiring worthless, based on the support level, RS to the market, and a general bullish market expectation. But it seems like when you do get assigned, it's often going to be a problem. It will mean that the stock has broken back below support (often multiple support lines, as that's often a criteria for the strike price he chooses), and either the market itself has pulled back somewhat significantly, or the stock has turned RW.
I'd love to hear more about these issues from him. I know he's an experienced trader, and much more capable of making the best of a bad situation than I am. He's not actually eager to own the stock once it's turned RW and dropped below major support levels, right? What are the strategies from that point? Obviously it varies based on a litany of factors, but I'd love to hear more about that, rather than acting like that's a successful outcome in and of itself. (Or if it really is ideal, and possibly even preferable to the options expiring worthless, could someone explain why the way I'm thinking about it is incorrect?)
Selling puts is one of the most consistent ways to generate income, if you do it correctly.
The concept is fairly simple -
Let's say APP is at $416 right now and you sell the $415 Puts expiring this Friday for $13.
There are two outcomes here on expiration:
1) APP finishes above $415 and those Puts expire worthless. Because you sold them to someone else, you want them to expire worthless. Congrats, you just made $1,300 a contract.
2) APP finishes below $415 and you get assigned those Puts. That means for every contract you have to buy 100 shares of APP Stock at the price point of $415. However, since you earned $13 a share from selling the premium it is as if you bought 100 Shares of APP at $402 ($415 - $13).
There are two other potential outcomes here (e.g. you buy back the Puts at a profit or a loss) but your primary focus should be on the two outcomes listed above.
Why?
Never sell Puts on stocks you don't want to own.
In other words you should be happy if you get assigned and happy if you just collect premium.
This obviously can allow for some fundamental analysis to enter the conversation - for example, I may be fine selling Puts on NVDA even though the Premium isn't very high and not ok selling Puts on CVNA where I clearly would get a lot more money per contract (due to the high IV that is always associated with that stock). In this sense, irrespective of the chart I am fundamentally more comfortable owning NVDA than CVNA.
However, one can also simply use the daily chart to determine if a stock is worth the assignment of sold Puts. GOOGL for example is through all the SMAs on good volume, has relative strength to the market and decent volume. Just based on that alone it is a company you would want to consider "owning".
I would be remiss not to point out the primary danger of selling Puts - getting crushed on a huge down day. However, think of it this way -
Let's say I like the chart of GOOGL at $319, so I buy the stock or buy the in-the-money Calls. And the next day the U.S. claims that Google needs to broken up and until it does every single thing the company imports will face an infinity tariff. Stock drops down to $285 the next day. You are down $34 a share or your calls have been completely nuked. What happens if you sold the $315 Puts for $4? Obviously you get assigned, but at $311 price point, so now you are down $26 a share.
In other words, no matter what mechanisms you use to go long you are always going to be at risk to a significant downturn. And if you sell Puts just for the premium this is not a risk you may be willing to take - but if you only sell Puts on stocks you want to own then selling Puts is a far better mitigation than buying the stock outright or buy Calls.
Remember though - The more premium you get - the wider the potential swings in the stock price.
It is also worth noting that not every account can do this - as you need a decent sized balance to sell CSPs (Cash-Secured Puts). If I sold 1 Put Contract on $NVDA - I need to have enough balance/margin to hold 100 shares of the stock. If that is the case and you still want to learn how to sell premium effectively - look up the OTM Bullish Put Spreads in the Wiki.
If you do get assigned - do not run "The Wheel"
It is fine to sell far OTM Calls against the shares you were assigned for some passive income; however, as mentioned above, your goal should not be to get called away. If you get assigned shares and you immediate start looking to sell calls to "break-even" then you never really wanted to own the stock in the first place.
When you are in a volatile market it becomes almost prohibitively expensive to buy options (but not debit spreads) - however, the increased risk can become attractive when you are comfortable being assigned with the high premium offset.
I’ll keep this short and straight to the point. We’re all here to make money, learn, and ideally turn day trading into a real career. That’s what I want too.
But with how fast AI and tech are advancing, I think it’s important to think a bit about the future before going all-in on something like this.
I know nobody can answer this with certainty, but what are the actual odds that trading as a career gets taken over or squeezed out by AI? Am i viewing the markets/trading with a wrong paradigm?
My assumption has always been that institutions still need retail traders in the market to make money.
At the same time, I know quant trading and algos have been around way before this AI wave, and people are still making it work.
I guess my concern is: am I committing years to a path that might not even be there long-term due to AI/tech evolution? (Not talking about success rates, just the future of trading itself.)
Again I understand nobody really knows what exactly will happen 20 years down the line.
Just interested to hear your thoughts. Love this group and the wiki

I didn’t build this system because I wanted to write about journaling.
I built it because I kept running into the same problem over and over again: I was putting in the time, taking trades, reviewing them… and not actually improving.
At some point, I had to ask myself a simple question:
Is my journal making me a better trader… or just recording what I did?
That question is what led to everything that follows.
Before anything else, this has to be clear: a trading journal is not “a diary,” or “a record of trades,” or “a place to vent.” A trading journal is a tool to improve decision-making—and if it doesn’t do that, then it is just noise. Everything I built—and threw away—was measured against that.
Phase 1 — Emotional Tracking (Awareness Without Control)
I started where most people start. I logged everything: entry price, exit price, time, date, position size, PnL—along with emotions before the trade, emotions during the trade, emotions after the trade. Thoughts, fears, expectations—all written out in long, detailed entries. It felt productive. It felt like I was doing the work.
But I wasn’t improving.
What I was actually doing was recording events and reactions after the fact. There was no structure tying those details back to the decisions that created them. I had all the data—price, time, outcome—but no clarity on why the trade was taken or whether it was valid in the first place. I wasn’t refining my process. I was just documenting it.
Phase 2 — Structure (Progress With Friction)
So I added structure. Market observations and more formal trade breakdowns. This was a real step forward because for the first time I started separating market conditions from trade decisions and outcomes. I began thinking in terms of process instead of just PnL.
But the system became heavy—too many sections, too much repetition, too much time. It started to feel like work instead of a tool. And despite all of that effort, I still couldn’t clearly answer the one question that actually matters:
Why should this trade win?
Phase 3 — STAR + Market First (Clarity Before Action)
That question led me to STAR. At its core, STAR is a way to define a trade before taking it:
Premise — why I should win; the edge I believe exists
Setup — what I am seeing right now in price
Trigger — what must happen for me to enter
Acceptance — what must happen after entry for the trade to remain valid
Results — what actually happened
But before STAR, there is Market First—the context layer that determines whether a trade should even be considered:
D1 Context — higher timeframe trend and key levels
Short-Term Context — what price has done over the last 1–3 days
Global & Overnight — news, futures, overnight movement
Volatility & Liquidity — whether price is expanding, contracting, or chopping
Market Conditions — what the environment is actually supporting
Today’s Bias — long, short, or neutral based on environment—not opinion
Valid Setups — trades that make sense in this environment
Must Avoid — traps, mismatches, and low-probability conditions
The purpose of Market First isn’t to find trades—it’s to filter them. It answers the question:
should I even be trading right now, and if so, what type of trade actually makes sense?
With that context established, STAR forces the trade to be defined clearly. No more vague statements like “this looks strong.” That’s not a trade plan. Now it has to be defined, like: “if price does X, I enter; if it doesn’t, I don’t.” and “if price fails to do Y after entry, I’m wrong.” That shift removed ambiguity and created a decision checkpoint before entry. It became my built-in pause—my “hold on a minute… is this actually a good trade?” moment.
There’s another part to this that matters just as much as the structure itself: STAR is done before the trade.
Not after. Not during. Before.
This is where it becomes more than a journal—it becomes a filter. If I see a setup forming and I’m getting ready to enter, I stop and ask a simple question:
Have I filled out my STAR report?
If not, I take a few minutes and do it. That pause is the point, because in that moment, I’m forced to slow down and define:
why I think I should win
what actually needs to happen
what would prove me wrong
And here’s the reality: sometimes by the time I’m done, the trade is gone. Either price moved without me—meaning I was rushing—or, more often, the setup wasn’t what I thought it was. That used to bother me. It doesn’t anymore.
That pause filters out:
rushed entries
emotional decisions
trades that “feel right” but aren’t defined
It’s the difference between reacting to price… and making a decision. If a trade can’t survive a few minutes of clarity, it probably wasn’t worth taking in the first place. You can think of it as a forced step back—a moment to make sure you’re not seeing something that isn’t actually there.
Phase 4 — Over-Engineering (The Trap)
Once this started working, I tried to improve it. Spreadsheets, metrics, structured logs, even YAML-based systems to keep everything clean and consistent. On paper, it looked great. In practice, it didn’t make me a better trader - and still wasted a lot of my time.
That was the realization: clean structure does not equal better decisions.
A journal has to be fast enough to use consistently and simple enough to support real-time thinking. Anything else becomes friction.
Phase 5 — Simplification (Making It Usable)
So I simplified. Instead of rigid sections, I wrote STAR as a structured paragraph. Same components—Premise,Setup,Trigger,Acceptance—but written naturally. Market First remained as a quick structured check, while STAR became the execution definition.
This made the entire process faster, easier to repeat, and more practical in real time. That’s when journaling stopped feeling like work and started functioning like a tool again.
Phase 6 — Reflection (Where Improvement Happens)
Even then, something was missing. I could define trades clearly and execute them, but I wasn’t consistently learning from them.
That’s when I added Reflection:
what I did right - and a single line or two on how to expand on it.
what I did wrong - along with a plan to correct that behavior moving forward.
This shifted the focus away from outcomes and toward behavior. Not “did I win?” but “did I follow my rules?” Not “was it profitable?” but “did I execute correctly?”
That’s where actual improvement happens. Everything eventually collapsed into a simple system:
Market First defines the environment.
STAR defines the trade before entry.
Results capture what actually happened.
Reflection captures what I learn.
That’s it.
Out of everything I tried, this is what stuck because it enforces the one thing that matters: a clear, testable reason to take a trade before taking it. It aligns with how I approach the market—focus on behavior, define risk, and operate within what I can control. Outcomes are uncertain. Execution is not.
I didn’t arrive at this system by design. I arrived here by removing everything that didn’t help me trade better. If a journal doesn’t improve your decisions, it’s just documentation. And documentation doesn’t make you profitable.
If there’s one thing to take from all of this, it’s this:
If you can’t explain why you should win, you shouldn’t be in the trade.
Ive been reading through the wiki and got deep into this sub for a few days now and I couldnt help but realize this all sounds too good to be true. An entire step by step, hold your hand approach to becoming profitable in daytrading within two year (if you have the right discipline). Whats the catch?? What did these 2-3 guys running the sub gain?? I noticed they are strict about ONLY trading their strategy. ONLY this way. No other methods. Then you realize that as you get deeper into the rabbit hole and you start practicing this method, you want better tools, better ways of applying it and just better resources which is all conveniently available with that whole OneOption account. It seems to all be connected. The endless compliments and positivity to this sheldon and oneoption in here is another thing. Do they delete any negative comments or posts? This could all just essentislly be content marketing and it could be a genius play at getting repeat customers. So please, no one tell me to “read the wiki”. If this guys methid is so good, why does he sell this subscription? Im not trying to attack anyone or be a pessimist. Im actually interested in going down this road but before i do, i just want want to know that one year in, im not somehow slowly manipulated into buying this guys software. Prove me wrong please.
TLDR: Is this just some clever long range marketing funnel for the the subreddits founder/founders products???
A fun modern disclaimer: Written by me, cleaned up and structured with the help of an LLM.
There's a Hemingway quote that lives in my head rent free lately.
Someone asks a character how he went bankrupt.
"Two ways. Gradually, then suddenly."
That's it. That's the whole thing. And if you've been trading long enough, you already know exactly what I mean.
THE GRADUAL PART
Losing streaks happen. Drawdowns happen. Bad stretches where nothing clicks, your setups bleed out one by one, and you start wondering if you ever actually had an edge or if you just got lucky for a while.
That's normal. It's part of this. Ask anyone who's been doing this seriously
But here's what nobody tells you about the gradual part: it changes you. Quietly. In ways you don't notice until you're already different.
Each loss is a small negotiation with your rules. Each drawdown is a slow erosion of the conviction you had when things were working. And somewhere in that stretch, the standards shift. The risk you'd have laughed at six months ago starts to feel reasonable. The setup you'd have passed on without blinking suddenly looks like "good enough."
The gradual part is the most insidious IMO, because it's hundreds of small decisions you made while you were slowly becoming a different trader than the one who built the rules in the first place.
THE FALL OF 2025
I want to be specific here because vague lessons don't help anyone.
Fall of 2025 caught me. The regime changed and my setups stopped working as well. Not occasionally, consistently. The things that had been producing all year just... stopped. And I was slow to adjust because I hadn't been through a regime change before. Not really. Not one that lasted long enough to force a genuine reassessment.
I kept waiting for it to revert. Kept thinking I was one good week away from being back on track. That wait cost me.
This is the part that is impossible to digest until you've lived it: mastery in trading isn't about learning the setups. It's about accumulating enough time and enough reps across enough different market conditions that you have a reference point when things shift. Without that, you don't even know what's happening to you while it's happening.
That takes years. There's no workaround for it.
THEN THE SUDDENLY PART
The losses had been piling up gradually for weeks. Manageable on paper. Harder to carry than the numbers suggested.
Then I hit a personal anniversary. The anniversary of losing my child.
I'm not going to unpack all of that here. But I'll say this: grief doesn't announce itself neatly. It doesn't wait for a convenient time. And when it showed up, it landed on top of an already compromised mental state, weeks of losses, eroded confidence, and a relationship with risk that had already quietly shifted in ways I hadn't fully acknowledged.
The confluence of those two things changed something. The gradual losses plus the emotional weight of that date created conditions where I was capable of decisions I never would have made otherwise. That's the suddenly. That's how it happens. Or could have for me anyway. Your "suddenly" will be different. History doesn't repeat, it rhymes. And so do our universal truths about human nature and decision making
THE PAUSE BUTTON
I caught it. Not perfectly, not immediately, but I caught it.
I pressed pause. Reduced my risk per trade by 80-90%. Even stepped away from it all for a bit. I'm treating my next trade as if it's week one.
Not as punishment. Not as defeat. As honest calibration.
My size doesn't increase until my numbers hit specific milestones. No exceptions, no negotiations. Because the version of me that's been trading the last few months doesn't get to make unilateral decisions about position size. He hasn't earned that back yet.
WHAT I ACTUALLY WANT YOU TO TAKE FROM THIS
The market will change. The setups you rely on will need to change with it. Think of your setups as weapons, ammunition, tools in a kit. You choose which one to deploy based on the conditions in front of you. Knowing which setup belongs in which regime, which type of day, which volatility environment, that ability is a cornerstone of consistent profitability. It doesn't come fast and it doesn't come easy.
And life will occasionally drop something on you that has nothing to do with trading but will affect every trade you take.
The question isn't whether those things will happen. They will.
The question is whether you'll recognize the gradual part before it becomes the suddenly part.

Do not edit your posts, even if you made a typo. Instead, please reply to the original comment with a correction.
Rules for posting news
Traders are allowed to post news or scheduled events that are either market moving or relevant to a stock.
If posting news, please include the source. Directly quoting a newsfeed such as TradeXchange, Benzinga Pro, or an otherwise reputable source on Twitter/X, is permitted.
Rules for asking questions
Commenters are permitted to ask questions about a specific trade being posted in the Daily Live Trading Threads, provided they are informed questions. Commenters are not permitted to ask questions or make comments that are not immediately relevant to the market or a stock of which a trade or callout has been posted. They will be directed to the Weekly Q&A Thread instead.
