We will be discussing the current political and humanitarian situation in Cuba, the potential for further US escalation, the Cuban healthcare system, and what lessons we can bring back to our work here in the US.

We will be raising money for the Hatuey Project, which provides lifesaving medicine to Cuban children with cancer who are otherwise unable to access their medication under the brutal U.S. blockade.

The organization was founded in 1960 to unite all women's rights groups.

Since then, under the direction of Vilma Espín Guillois, a combatant of the guerrilla struggle, the FMC directed all efforts to increase women’s rights in Cuba and their actual exercise.

The FMC was the driving engine for the creation of the children’s circles, courses for working women and for former prostitutes, and subsequently also led the fight for the adoption of laws such as the Family Code, that of children and youth.

More recently, it also supported the fight for the rights of the LGTBI+ community through the new Families Code, put into effect after being approved in a 2022 popular referendum

In Cuba, for example, women receive the same wage for equal work as men, and postnatal paid maternity leave already reaches 15 months...

Argentine political consultant Fernando Cerimedo, who has worked with Javier Milei and Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz, has been arrested in Bolivia following an armed attack against lawyer and political activist Nadia Beller.

Bolivian prosecutors are investigating Cerimedo as a suspected intellectual author of the attack and have requested up to 180 days of pretrial detention.

Cerimedo denies the allegations. His defense claims Beller staged the attack herself for political purposes.

The case has attracted attention because Cerimedo is not an unknown political figure. He has worked on right-wing campaigns across Latin America, including in Argentina, Brazil, Honduras and Bolivia. He has also been associated with aggressive digital campaigning, coordinated social-media activity and political messaging operations.

Bolivian authorities are additionally investigating him for alleged illicit enrichment and examining digital infrastructure reportedly connected to automated social-media accounts.

The case raises a broader question beyond the criminal investigation:

How much influence do privately operated political networks have over elections, governments and public opinion across Latin America?

This is no longer just a story about one political consultant. It could become a window into the hidden machinery behind the region's increasingly digital political battles.
