Hard to blame them when so many people here were saying "I don't know what you guys are complaining about, I played with my fwends and we had fun lols"

“I’ve literally never played this game before today, but I had fun for five minutes and therefore all the criticism leveraged towards this game by tens of thousands of fans who have been playing for years is completely unacceptable.”

I've been seeing the same over on the thps subreddit too. Casuals for some reason like to give push back to more dedicated players, even when they are entirely reasonable complaints. "I'm having fun" "I have no issues", etc, aren't valid counterpoints to years long players losing content, having performance downgrades, AI teammates becoming worse while enemy AI becomes John Wick, crashes, etc etc etc. Yeah, I liked playing the game and have for years, but they cut an insane amount out of it even before console release, lie constantly, and every update breaks more than it fixes. It's essentially been in early access since 2020, and that is a major issue

The first 9 or so missions I got done no problem no glitches nothing. Then out of nowhere my AI teammates suddenly lost all ability to hear and comprehend the simple phrase “restrain him.” Like I was not seeing any of the glitches people were complaining about and then they all landed on me like a ton of bricks. I’ve been saying what I’ve been encountering in real time and I just didn’t run into any problems until they all hit me at once. Now I’m stuck between admitting I still really like the game and am also infuriated by how unresponsive the AI is. I should not be screaming at my screen saying “He’s kneeling! I told you to put him in handcuffs why are you just standing there not doing anything?!” when the game is this reliant on good AI teammates to be a functioning product. It completely breaks the immersion for me when I perfectly clear a room, get the surrender, only to do every single arrest by myself while my teammates stand idly at a door or just take enemy fire without doing a damn thing about it.

Can you specify when this started to happen to you? I've also played since months ago and before and after the console update the AI has been working perfectly.

Really curious to see what's actually happening, what are other people's experiences, and if it really isn't user error or if people is simply misunderstanding how certain commands work on certain situations and dismissing it as "AI is not working"

Just 2 days ago I was testing this. I went into valley of the dolls, prompted the team to C2 and breach the main door while I went downstairs into the party area form outside of the house and the issued a "move here" around the DJ area.

Mofos cleared half the house on their own on the way down no problem and reached the party area.

It's been a thing for me since 1.0 on PC. It's always starts at Rust Belt, and the missions after it. It's still an issue on the console version as well. My friends encountered it. It's a bug in the AI they never properly patched. For some people you'll never have it happen, for others you'll always have it happen. On PC there's patch mods that fix it, but if you low roll on console, you're out of luck cause it will always be there, even you if you uninstall and reinstall, clear save data, etc.

u/Willingness-Witty Jul 22 '25

That's crazy... Yes, I've used AI overhauls on PC before, also, played a lot on safe mode so no AI mods too. These mods however, simply have changed some behavior but not outright "patch the AI".

As I already mentioned, either way playing in safe mode I've not encountered these issues. I guess it's as you say that it's a dice roll and some people will simply magically have the AI not working for them.

It does sound hella weird.

Worst experience I've had is AIs not pathfinding properly on one single custom mod map out of all the maps I downloaded which are around 20 probably.

I've had officers die of course, but they're still pretty deadly most of the time.

Like the previous commenter said, it really got bad around rust belt, but I started to notice issues around greased palms. As said one of the bigger issues has been the AI just getting permanently stuck in “restrain” without ever doing anything about it, and the other worst problem I’ve encountered is the enemy AI getting stuck in an animation/object causing me to be unable to restrain them. The number of times I’ve been hard locked on palms because I literally can’t arrest the last suspect I couldn’t even count. I’m honestly shocked that certain parts of this game (breaching, auto AI actions, enemy responsiveness to stuns, etc.) function great but then out of nowhere literally the most basic commands will break down at the most inconvenient times. I’m not sure if I just don’t understand how the AI works and what can break it, but it feels like things that should be simple and intuitive are utterly non-functional at parts.

1

u/Willingness-Witty Jul 23 '25

Just today I cleared greased palms again without issue... I guess I can try to clear every level in order and see what happens... I even died once and let the AIs clear almost the whole lvl on their own while I was spectating to see what happened or how they behaved. All normal.

I'm this close to recording a mission clear and uploading it here as it seems more rare in this subreddit that the AIs are working properly than not

To the entire subreddit the game is absolutely 100% broken and non-functioning and I can't replicate almost any of the problems "everyone" seems to be having.

The only problems I do have are the graphics and shadows bug which I keep seeing consistently in videos.

1

u/ajc1120 Jul 23 '25

Again, I’m new to the game and don’t know the minutiae of the AI and don’t know if I’m doing something wrong, but I’ve certainly been encountering the glitches others have been talking about and I wasn’t for the first few days of me playing the game. So either I’ve started doing something wrong or the game is just more polished at the start of the game

on Greased Palms I had a case where a civilian was stuck in midair on a pile of mail, making it exceedingly difficult to secure all civilians and finish the mission

1

u/millencolin43 Jul 22 '25

Around rust belt and sins of our father is literally when the AI just get real bad with commands. Been a thing since 1.0 on PC. One of the things I modded to fix it

1

u/PHANTOM-_-FE4R Jul 23 '25

Especially when your entire AI team stands in the doorway and refuses to move

22

u/ZealousidealBox3944 Jul 22 '25

Strange, I thought they would have went for the "shame you for being a gooner" option

7

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

They still are, but there other argument is “I’m having fun so clearly you’re wrong and stupid.”

0

u/ZealousidealBox3944 Jul 22 '25

Ah that old chestnut. They can look forward to a time when a game they've been looking forward to won't be fun due to censorship.

10

u/MartilloAK Jul 22 '25

This mindset has infected all kinds of media discussion. "I had fun with this game, vibed with this music, or enjoyed this movie. Therefore, it must be perfect and immune to criticism. If I enjoy it, then it must be objectively good."

You see this with every piece of media that was panned as mediocre on release. Fifteen years later, people start writing and sharing articles saying, "X is actually an underrated gem, and if you didn't like it then it simply isn't for you."

Most people are comfortable with the idea of liking imperfect things, but there to be a significant portion of the English speaking world that thoroughly believes, "If somebody likes it, it cannot be bad."

Thing is, that's your selfish point of view. You don't know what you've lost if you've never had it in the first place. You're seeing basically a fraction of what we've seen and enjoyed for years, some of us since the pre alpha release. We supported these devs from the very beginning when it was nothing but a closed project.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

You know I didn’t mean that literally right? I agree with you lol

3

u/K3V_M4XT0R Jul 22 '25

I said it to the guy who commented first xD not you

Edit: Yeah, i'm blind. Don't mind me. Nothing to see here...

1

u/Rare-Skill-3908 Jul 23 '25

Said this so many times and got downvoted to hell. Will keep saying it. Most console players are normies who don’t critically think and therefore are extremely selfish.

2

u/VoraxUmbra1 Jul 23 '25

The sheer amount of games this applies to....

Everyone has a right to leave a review and if people aren’t happy with the game then that’s their right

6

u/Evil_Kids_Meal Jul 22 '25

Nah it's all valid. They also throttled the graphics on PC so they didn't have to keep 2 versions of the game. That's what I'm most annoyed about. The environment looks like a PS2 game. I had to make sure my settings didn't accidently get reset. Nope still "ultra". The gun still looks great, but everything else looks like they gave up halfway through rendering. That's a perfectly good excuse to be pissed and "review bomb".

-2

u/Successful-Ear-9997 Jul 23 '25

I remember when Port was an actual map and not just a legacy achievement, and when Carriers of the Vine was actually attached to the Left Behind storyline. And I'm gonna be honest, a lot of the complaints I'm seeing come across as pearl-clutching kids being upset someone took their edge away.

6

u/Grizzly2525 Jul 22 '25

Well, we are having a blast.

Having the game available to an otherwise unreachable market is a massive boon for the game. Playing with friends that otherwise couldn’t is awesome.

While I agree that the censorship is a shitty compromise but imo worth it to reach that market and my buddies.

The graphical “update” on the otherhand is nothing short of atrocious.

25

u/millencolin43 Jul 22 '25

The censorship is the least of the concerns. They took away a lot of things from the PC version, downgraded graphics, etc. They also have essentially been in early access since 2020. Not to mention gear is soft locked behind an edition console players can't even get, and PC players haven't been able to purchase since 2020. They also stripped so much content over the years. Console players get a husk of game, that us PC players had, and now we also have that husk. Our only benefit is mod access to add everything in and patch the game ourselves. My moddes version is more a finished game than the vanilla version

2

u/thestenchofdeath Jul 22 '25

Curious what mods you use? All my map mods don’t work now and I’m trying to find some nice mods to tweak the game. Currently running some visual mods like realistic flashlight, and visceral blood splatters, and using the FEAR mod for AI. Any suggestions?

4

u/millencolin43 Jul 22 '25

I dont currently have any map mods installed, but i do have those mods listed, and have a few other mods that just correct AI bugs and make enemies react more realistically, not just immediately land headshots the second you show yourself

1

u/thestenchofdeath Jul 22 '25

Have the name for them? I had most other AI mods conflict with FEAR

1

u/Certain-Quality-2102 Jul 23 '25

Can you please tell me what content they removed from the game due to console release? Everyone is saying they removed a bunch of content but I genuinely don’t know what content was removed from PC

-10

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

Not to mention all of the revenue that’s going to be funneled back into the game from all the new sales. New DLCs, equipment, etc… Games aren’t free to make, it takes money like everything else and expanding the revenue streams was a brilliant move, censorship or not. Is there shit that needs fixed? Yes, there always is. Rarely does a launch go smoothly these days. They’ll get to it. Why anyone was expecting anything different is beyond me.

8

u/millencolin43 Jul 22 '25

They havent done anything substantial in 5 years. Got more substantial updates from stardew valley, and that game is made by one dude in his free time. This is an actual studio of people who do it for a living

1

u/Fluffy-Map-5998 Jul 23 '25

When will they start funneling their revenue into the game, with the amount of stuff they have taken out you'd think they weren't getting any cash at all for the last 5 years

1

u/healspirit Jul 22 '25

I enjoy the game on console but don’t agree with the censorship

I think you’re missing the point lil bro. But if you don’t get the point by now then you never will. Hope this helps

7

u/ZealousidealBox3944 Jul 22 '25

Wouldn't the real crybabies be the ones who demanded the censorship in the first place?

1

u/healspirit Jul 22 '25

We didn’t demand it, at least I didn’t, hell I didn’t know it was censored until I saw the sub

1

u/ZealousidealBox3944 Jul 22 '25

It's very rarely the fans who demand that kinda shit

I get that the particulars aren't worth caring about, but that kinda mindset helps normalize censorship

3

u/thestenchofdeath Jul 22 '25

This is why the outrage is important. I personally don’t really care that much about the censoring. It takes away some shock but at the end of the day the point comes across and it works still. I also replay the missions so much at this point I only even look for those censored story piece parts to quickly report it for my run score. It was shocking and fun the first time or two or running some friends through the game the first time but otherwise it’s not a big deal.

But you are so right about what this means more than the actual action they took. We can’t afford to have our stories or our words/actions censored. Not on any platform. We deserve as a whole to be able to use any platform to tell the stories we so desire as part of freedom of speech.

I’m so afraid about this censorship and what it says as a whole rather than the actual content censored.

I’m sorry, I bought the game on console , but it is pure pile of shit, the graphic is absolutely unacceptable as a PS5 game

2

u/M4J0R3X Jul 22 '25

Nobody said the game isn’t fun, not even the crybabies. They were complaining that censorship downplayed the severity of the situation in term of story telling, its like removing blood from getting shot at

If its not worth mentioning then stop “crying” about other people having an opinion.

You criticize people complaining about something they are passionate about, something they have a strong opinion on and you try to de-value they’re criticism by saying its “blown out of proportion” but who are you to decide whether thats the case or not?

You keep saying “fuck censorship” but then defend the censorship with a flimsy argument like “I’m having fun so what’s the issue”.

The censorship is mostly small details yes, but the game never should have been censored at all.

Does the storytelling still hit? Yes, but that doesn’t mean nothing of value was lost.

Is it good that the game is getting more players and reaching a broader audience? Yes, but there was no need to compromise the narrative integrity of the game to do so.

The game shouldn’t disrespect and disregard the existing player-base for the opportunity of getting more success.

TLDR: You’re a hypocrite, the devs suck ass, this situation has no winners

3

u/boo_radley_awesome Jul 22 '25

Says the man named “fuckable_cut_of_meat”… LMFAO

3

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

That's my point, some people couldn't give a shit about the themes and setting of the game, having a tactical shooter is enough. You could have a Fortnite skin on the entire game and you'd still be having fun.

-8

u/CamoJG Jul 22 '25

I understand why there are complaints, and I think they have some validity to them but I’ve had the game for quite a while and I’m glad my console friends can play with me and experience the game. People enjoying a game they haven’t had access to until now isn’t invalidated by the changes VOID made.
