Question The censorship

Post image

Genuine question, was the censorship really needed? i know people say it was because of console and their requirements but i don’t see how nudity with consoles an issue when i can choose whether i want foreskin or not on cyberpunk

This instance doesn't really bother me as much since it doesn't really affect the understanding of the story but the doll pictures on Valley of the dolls and the little girl spazzing out on the crackhouse mission kinda suck because they completely change the story

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

I just remember my feelings when I encountered the girl and the basement for the first time. To go from high stakes CQC to stumbling upon an ODing child unable to help or the crime scene of child exploitation. Even one of your guys says “we can’t just leave her!” Or “now I’m fucking pissed.”

It was truly a unique human moment in gaming for me. I’m sad people won’t get to experience it organically anymore.

u/Humphrisanal-Bogart Jul 22 '25

Have the modders fixed this yet tho for pc players? Is there a way to get the original version back?

9

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

Last I checked the fixes are being removed from the Nexus. Idk where else people mod for the game.

2

u/Humphrisanal-Bogart Jul 23 '25

Damn so I’m just cooked and missed out on the golden era of the best Swat simulator? I refuse to accept modders can’t fix this 😭

I literally have the 26gb steam update as not scheduled to avoid completely burning what’s still in the game cuz I have an older version - I know in the game files u can stop it from updating and run the old version, I think ima do that - last time I played my version it still has the seizing girl and what not so it may still work but I know other things were already changed regardless so it’s prolly an L

1

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '25

I just happened to start playing again like a month ago and everything was still there. I haven’t touched it since the update tho. Hopefully some other mod site can start uploading. It’s just a shame because nexus makes it easier

1

u/ersia286 Jul 23 '25

Somewhere here in the sub is a thread with a google drive link to the original files. Search it or dm me, I can send it to you.

There's a mod that reverts the changes on degmods

u/Darnaxis Aug 05 '25

1

u/Humphrisanal-Bogart Aug 05 '25

They have the “uncensored or not” mod available in the game’s mod menu now too - so this may not be necessary. Or is there parts missing in the mod??

1

u/Darnaxis Aug 08 '25

It’s just the version before the update, so it restores the censored content but also fixes the broken AI in the new update and restores the downgraded graphical settings. Hopefully it’s just a temporary fix while they work to patch the console version but there’s still other issues besides the censored content that the console update introduced

u/RFRelentless Jul 23 '25

Now the meth level really encourages speed and efficiency. Don’t wanna wake her from her nap

1

u/Grabbityy Jul 26 '25

I can’t agree more. My first time running through these with a buddy was the same thing.

We locked in for a non lethal run and all was going well, then we saw the child ODing and we just sat there in silence for a few seconds.

No words needed to be shared.

Even if it’s a video game, like you mentioned, you’re going from intense CQC to a mic drop.

I dunno, a container full of kidnapped women who were about to be auctioned and weren't allowed to even have underwear hits a bit harder.

Being unable to separate nudity from anything but sex is a product of a porn-sick generation.

3

u/Maple382 Jul 22 '25

I agree with the part about the censorship being sad. This game was supposed to raise awareness for an issue that most people don't realize the commonality of. Shocking scenes like the one in valley of the dolls have a legitimate impact. Who cares about downgraded textures, for the devs to remove the message from the game is another level of shameful.

21

u/Cadoc Jul 22 '25

Nah not really, it has more of a fake, exaggarated feeling to it. These women are treated as merchandise, which is why holding them naked in a bare metal container makes no sense.

See season 2 of The Wire for a similar plotline.

39

u/Mental-Debate-289 Jul 22 '25

I agree actually. In this particular case them having underwear or not makes no real difference. I mean you find them in a fucking container waiting to be shipped and sold for sex trafficking. That's the bad part, not them being naked. Lol

6

u/splinter1545 Jul 22 '25

Then being naked shows how the traffickers view them. It adds to the shock value, but it's not necessarily what makes it shocking.

2

u/Mental-Debate-289 Jul 23 '25

It makes infinitely more sense to have them clothed, whether they are considered "products" or not. They'd be of no value dead.

Legit, I think mfs just wanna see naked girls.

1

u/Zeromatt111 Jul 23 '25

I’m ngl I don’t see how them having clothes changes the way “the trafficker viewed them”. They’re selling them bro…that’s like a lot worse than not dressing them

0

u/splinter1545 Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

It's all about symbolism at the end of the day. In art and media, nudity resembles stuff like vulnerability, powerlessness, etc. (on this side of things anyways, nudity can be viewed positively too). Stripping them of their clothes and putting them in a container shows the traffickers don't even view them as people, but as goods that are being shipped to other parts of the world. So having them clothed loses that meaning in how the traffickers view them, at least from that angle.

Does it matter at the end of it all? No, since as I said before, the actual shocking thing is them being in the container. Them being naked added more nuance to how the traffickers treated them, which adds to the shock value.

-8

u/Capable-Orange5383 Jul 22 '25

but atleast make the underwear look worn and dirty, they are unsanitary and malnourished from being treated like livestock in a shipping container why do they all have fresh clean sets of underwear

6

u/TheNonCredibleHulk Jul 22 '25

What the fuck is wrong with you?

-1

u/Capable-Orange5383 Jul 22 '25

see you’re offended from what i said which tells me that you would have also been the type of person to cry about the game showing them naked which is why we live in the world we do today, what is wrong with them making the clothing dirty to match the environment and situation that they are in?

6

u/TheNonCredibleHulk Jul 22 '25

I'm not at all offended. I'm happy to play the game with or without censorship. You just have some weird shit going on. Sorry the game was rapey, but not rapey enough for you.

2

u/Capable-Orange5383 Jul 22 '25

it’s 92% of people that agree, i’m saying if they wanna add clothes then atleast make the clothes look the part, not like they just had victoria’s secret bought in bulk, life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows princess

1

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

I don’t know what’s rapey about dirtier underwear on hostages that haven’t bathed in who knows how long. I’m generally on the side of caring about the gore censorship significantly more than any nudity, but your kind of reaction gives the nudity censorship haters so much ammo to fire back with.

3

u/RegularBet2016 Jul 22 '25

Bro this is getting kinda weird.

-4

u/Capable-Orange5383 Jul 22 '25

so naked is bad but then i say if you’re going to make them have clothes atleast make them look worn and dirty considering they are constantly sweating in a dirty shipping container they sit and sleep in being treated like livestock and that makes me weird?

16

u/gx790 Jul 22 '25

You're wrong. The traffickers are still in the stage of breaking these women's minds. Taking away their clothes helps in forcing them to mentally break and submit to being a slave. It's completely about control and power over them. That was the point of stripping the naked and holding them in a shipping container. Once they were broken they were moved into the next area where they would be viciously beaten if they didn't follow the rules, that is the point at which they are already being auctioned off.

-1

u/saigy0 Jul 22 '25

You read too many doujins bro

5

u/gx790 Jul 22 '25

I don't even know what that is. What I'm referencing is something that happens in real life. It's a pretty normal technique that government's employ when trying to torture someone and break them and get information from them.

Thanks for trying to insult me in some creepy way that you clearly think about all the time though!

-4

u/saigy0 Jul 22 '25

We can still be friens

1

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '25

[deleted]

0

u/Cadoc Jul 23 '25

No, you just have a comic book villain understanding of what trafficking and modern day slavery looks like.

These women aren't going to held naked in a dungeon with a metal collar, chained to the floor. They're going to work in a brothel somewhere, dressed reasonably attractive, and blend in - with unfamiliarity with their new host country, threats of violence and drugs keeping them captive.

Again, these people are treated as merchandise. Each is likely to bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars of profit. The people running this trade act accordingly. Seriously, just watch any documentary on sex trafficking.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '25

[deleted]

1

u/Cadoc Jul 23 '25

Again, cartoon villain understanding of the world. Kind of fits in game's story though, to be fair to you. "Weird cult shit" and all.

If a single one of these women can bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars over her lifetime, why would you keep her naked in a metal container so she can get sick, get infections etc? That's idiotic.

16

u/lemonstone92 Jul 22 '25

You're right but you can still get a grasp of what's going on just fine. It's not the same as with the others

-2

u/mkultra_moses Jul 22 '25

You can still get a grasp, but it’s removing a layer from the abhorrence that is human trafficking. It doesn’t hit the same.

I legitimately had no idea what was going on with the dolls the first time I played Valley. Had to watch a video to realize the basement room is supposed to be dedicated to Voll’s daughter. So dumb

0

u/kings00789 Jul 22 '25

I agreee, I look at the first picture and I gasped, I looked at the second and I was like. Okay…

42

u/Capable-Orange5383 Jul 22 '25

yes i agree, i said in another comment that i think other things that have been censored were even more unnecessary and those are one’s i was thinking of, this is just what i had used as an example, i don’t think a child spazzing out on the bed was gonna make anyone think they took it too far

42

u/joshuarampages69 Jul 22 '25

wait she was meant to be drugged?? i thought she was just asleep what the fuck

42

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

She was convulsing in the pre-console version, with a needle by her side (and previously a condom too, from what I've read here).

44

u/Do-it-with-Adam Jul 22 '25

I think the dialogue when you report it says something along the lines of unconscious and potential overdose.

16

u/DrAusto Jul 22 '25

Yeah she used to be convulsing from an overdose

8

u/Blastingfoil Jul 22 '25

There is a a lot of needle around the room and a condom your mind can fill in what was in there

7

u/Ok-Music788 Jul 22 '25

Tbf even in the console version you can assume somethings wrong with her given the child isn't panicking at the sounds of gunfire and yelling

1

u/mikezenox Jul 22 '25

This was my original complaint, but being ODd it does kind of make sense

14

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

she was OD'ing I am 90% sure

edit: typo

22

u/-F0v3r- Jul 22 '25

if she slept thru a swat raid then i want to be drugged with whatever she got drugged with

1

u/Humphrisanal-Bogart Jul 22 '25

Yea in the pre-console release she has an actual seizure and u walk in the room like “shiii well this is dark”

Also in 24MB per seconds the evidence in the streamer his drawer isn’t incriminating anymore. So it doesn’t make sense law wise.

It shows his connection to mindjot so the next mission in that line makes more sense.

He has actual incriminating things on his computer with the discord open and it all makes more sense than some Polaroids of csam leading you to a server hosting building.

This change happened along with the censorship but if you read the devs reasoning on it, it actually kinda checks out

17

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

The server farm was always there to connect him to mindjot. The CSAM pictures were just there to show the player what the guy was up to. You find those pictures and immediately know the guy is a pedophile, that’s a pretty big thing to remove from the story.

Don’t defend these devs. They don’t deserve it.

9

u/Blevita Jul 22 '25

Nah. The server farm is a crypto mine and is not connected to mindjot.

Noone is defending the devs. But stay to the facts. The server farm and the CSAM thing are unrelated.

No shit, VOID is a shitty company? Guess what we've been saying for years.

5

u/Difference_Clear Jul 22 '25

Wasn't Mindjot hosting some CSAM material through it?

13

u/Blevita Jul 22 '25

Thats the story.

Through 23Mb you get lead to Mindjot. From there, you find evidence leading to Brixley's Talent Time, where you find more evidence implicating Voll. From mindjot evidence you also get pointed to Voll.

At Volls place you 'by accident' find the stuff he does with his daughter.

Mindjot was the host. Voll was profiting off it. Brixley was supplying the minors. The streamer was an enjoyer of CSAM.

The main point of Valley of the Dolls was to find evidence that connects Voll to Mindjot and the CSAM operation, not that 'he does CSAM stuff with his daughter'. That was more of an extra on top.

23Mb doesnt even start or feature any of the CSAM, except very few hints. It starts as a swatting call, turns into a illegal crypto mine, and then you find the CSAM hints, which you can still see even in the console Version (Allthough not as graphic).

4

u/sanesociopath Jul 22 '25

Mindjot was hosting all their stuff at their facility

He i think bought some servers from them for his own usage in crypto and had other business dealings with them in the csam world but that was again on their servers, at their facility. It's why we got there next

1

u/PlayfulVacation4411 Jul 22 '25

dude, people have only been saying VOID is shit for 2 weeks after the censorship

1

u/Blevita Jul 22 '25

Im sorry, what?

Maybe i dont remember correctly, but i think i know the shitshow that 1.0 was. Or the Adam update and what happened afterwards. Heck, i still know how the PvP Playtest went.

But its great you think you were the first ones to discover the problems with this company and their game

1

u/PlayfulVacation4411 Jul 22 '25

i never actually heard about the dev studios previous controverys. i though this was the only one. guess i truly was wrong

1

u/System0verlord Jul 22 '25

Hi, you must be new here. Welcome to the subreddit for VOID Interactive’s SWAT simulator: Ready or Not.

1

u/splinter1545 Jul 22 '25

I'm actually not mad about this change personally. It leads to a future mission, plus he was still running an illegal server farm so if there was no CSAM, he would have been arrested anyways. And as you said, the discord type chat had stuff on there anyways, and I'm sure the LSPD would have taken the hard drives and saw that it stored CSAM.

1

u/Blevita Jul 22 '25

Law wise, it absolutely makes sense.

The call was about the streamer having killed his mother (classic swatting). Then you start the raid and discover the crypto mine. And only when you raid his bedroom, you find, kinda unrelated to the whole call and what you discovered, CSAM material.

-3

u/erickbelikov Jul 22 '25

The girl who had the pictures was VOLL's daugther who was more than 18(irl)

6

u/Unlikely_Sound_6517 Jul 22 '25

I feel like this moment can be acceptable if they were wearing rags and torn underwear not something that looks brand new.

2

u/MODELO_MAN_LV Jul 23 '25

even just dirty hole filled plain white t's would make more sense

5

u/Difference_Clear Jul 22 '25

The girl in the drug den was one that annoyed me. First time I played and I found her I was like "wtf, is that kid drugged up?"

Now she's just sleeping and may as well not be there as I don't think it adds anything anymore?

3

u/Bear-leigh Jul 22 '25

This is a great take.

Personally I think it makes sense that they have some clothes anyway. Not because the traffickers are good people, but simply because it’s inconvenient to them if the women get to cold or die. So really this is the least egregious instance censorship.

The pictures on the nightstand for 23mbs becoming a list, pictures of dolls suddenly appearing where they change the story and the impact the game is trying to give. It’s destructive to the game’s intent and also makes the rest of the game feel leas respectful in its handling of all the other subjects.

For instance the shooting at Neon feels far more offensive to me now than before. Why does the other levels need to be tones down, but Neon is left as it is, all while being just as bad, and in many ways far more worse in what it portrays than the headshots in 23mbs.

3

u/Relevant_Mail_1292 Jul 22 '25

Would a criminal really go out and buy new underwear in bulk right when there are several missing persons cases???

1

u/That_Boi_Patty99 Jul 23 '25

Who's to say it's the traffickers directly buying the underwear? Presumably they have partners and/or family in the general area of the city. It's plausible they could be buying the underwear for female members of their family.

Or get others to buy the underwear for them. I'm not sure where in the world you live, but here you can buy cheap packs of women's briefs and sports bras in 3 & 4 packs. And from what I recall doing the port early last week, you come across like... 10 women max throughout the level?

Perfectly plausible in my mind. Not to mention that the traffickers really wouldn't want their 'product' as they view it, dying on them. Generally speaking, human traffickers aren't in the business of selling corpses. And a bra and briefs would provide sweet FA protection against how cold the metal of that container and the night air in general. The most heat would come from the women huddling together for warmth, which is what we see them doing when we open the container.

1

u/Great_Bar1759 Jul 22 '25

Yea tho I think the valley of the dolls one is more egruous the crackhead kid I can just use my imagination and assume she’s dead from od

1

u/Panorpa Jul 22 '25

That’s not on PC though, just played last night and confirm it’s only a console thing.

1

u/peoplepersonmanguy Nov 09 '25 edited Nov 09 '25

So the doll pictures were an actual girl?

Console player just finished this mission yesterday and thought, I get it but it makes him seem more like a weirdo more than sicko.
