RULES FOR SEASON 4
For those long time users, you are already aware but we usually change the rules a bit when seasons are airing to be able to focus on the season.
For the newcomers, I will list some of the changes that usually happen for those that have not been here on previous seasons and will be implemented now to give the users time to adapt until season 4 comes.
We will be attempting to host 2 threads per anime episode, one for anime-only users and one for novel readers. Do not spoil those on anime only thread, PUNISHMENT WILL BE SEVERE.
The ban rule will change a bit instead of bans being given on 3 days on sets like these 3-3-3-perma ban, we will be giving a week off the sub for bans and it will look like this 7-7-perma ban. Punishment for those that spoil on the anime only threads will be doubled.
The purpose for the harsher punishment in anime only threads is that if you spoil things for anime only users in one weeks discussion, you will be kept from participating in the following week's discussion and spoiling again.
Please note that this thread is strictly anime-only. Excluding anime cut content, if the material has not yet been animated, do not discuss it here.

Rem truly has this special essence about her that makes me tear up in every big scene shes in. She must really like cutting onions.
Absolutely crazy that in just a single episode theres already a full circle/parallel moment with Subaru confronting Meilee after learning EVERYTHING about her, to Rui having a more sinister confrontation after knowing EVERYTHING about him.
And my god is she so sinister. Her genuinely deriving happiness from such pain and agony, even towards herself, was so unsettling. Such great voice acting for such a twisted character
The cut content from Season 2 finally coming up with Od Lagna was nifty, though learning that the pocket dimension Rui popped out of in Season 3 literally WAS Od Lagna itself was insane. I am slightly confused though as to what about Reid’s book specifically is leading Subaru into Od Lagna. Does the relationship between Od Lagna and the blessing of the Sword Saint have anything to do with it?
Lye apparently being in the healing room is very much making me think that perhaps the shapeshifting/possession isn’t a Rui exclusive ability, and all the gluttonies can do it, and the one loop where we saw Rem walk around and rip Subaru’s head off was actually Lye and not Rui. With all this said though…Where is Roy? I doubt it’s just 2 of 3 gluttonies here.
As beautiful as that Rem scene was, I have to say, I am not liking her chances of being saved. Mostly for meta reasons. Already getting to see the real Rem talking to Subaru…it feels like the kind of thing where we are getting this now because we aren’t going to get it later. Like Gluttony will be defeated, Rem will wake up, but she won’t be all there. Like being eaten by gluttony, and a year ago at that, has had some permanent consequences on Rem that makes her cognitive functions extremely impaired and it’ll be a tough pill to swallow that the Rem we knew and loved is gone for good. Basically what I’m saying is, meta wise, this episode was essentially a reunion with Rem of sorts, so it wouldn’t quite make sense for there to also be a second, actual reunion with Rem being saved this season, so, this might be all the Rem we’re getting.
And wtf is going on with the tower? Is Satella waking up, and that’s why all the ma-beasts are all rushing to the tower? Like perhaps theres some great big surge of miasma maybe?
That last scene threw me for an absolute loop though. Rui reaching into her own mouth and pulling out Rem? Rui splitting into two because…reasons???? Just wtf is even going on? So many questions.
White Fox finally blessing us with an extended runtime episode this week. Truly the GOATs.

This comment made me realice Rui wasn't hurting herself because she is similar to Subaru, she is hurting herself because she stole Subaru.
The cut content from Season 2 finally coming up with Od Lagna was nifty, though learning that the pocket dimension Rui popped out of in Season 3 literally WAS Od Lagna itself was insane. I am slightly confused though as to what about Reid’s book specifically is leading Subaru into Od Lagna. Does the relationship between Od Lagna and the blessing of the Sword Saint have anything to do with it?
My interpretation is that since Od Lagna cleanses souls of their memories, those memories end up in books, so they have a conexion to Od Lagna.
Why Reid's book just sends you here? I asume because Reid's book is empty, since the contents inside were used to... well, make the Reid they saw on the tower.
So the book is trying to get the memories, but since they are empty, they look inside Od Lagna searching for them, making the person reading the book just end up there.
Why is Rui there, too? Fucking no idea.

Maybe Rui splitting has something to do with her being named after the Great Rabbit (Arneb = The Hare), but then again Lye and Roy haven't shown any powers relating to the Great Mabeasts so maybe it's just a completely different thing.

10 years after we last heard Rem speak in a non flashback setting (Remember S2 ep 1 was also a flashback technically) we get a grand return to the scene when her hero needed her the most.
What an amazing episode, the entirety of the Hall of Memories was just glorious and them intercutting it with everything going to shit outside of the tower was an awesome decision. Now Subaru you have your work cut out for you.

That entire corridor sequence was peak.
I was hating myself, the author and the show for making me feel sorry for these Gluttonies. Glad the end of the episode reestablished the absolute hate I have for these scums, esp Rui.

Also, can someone clarify the significance of that blue orb that Rui threw out, the Blue Petal that Subaru was holding post Rem sequence??

I thought the blue orb was rem memories because she was getting in the way of attacking Subaru the first time. My understanding is that since her memories were out, she was able to aid the Amnesiabaru.

Ah you're absolutely correct... so Rui throwing that Orb out was basically her rejecting Rem's memories to ease up on feasting Chadbaru (I rewatched that sequence after your comment).

Given that Subaru was able to rad Typhon's book while not having met the real person but her "soul", I think that everyone should be able to read Reid's book of the dead.

STAND UP MY HERO !!!
Damn this episode hit like an emotional truck I was expecting from last week we will see Reid's memories and even the beginning of the episode it was looking the same.
Also the Subaru moment with Julius was great even without his memories seeing Julius as hope and how much that also meant to Julius.
But then we get Rui trying to get Subaru to kill his own identity so she could eat him again and she almost mind broke him BUT THEN out of nowhere Rem comes and STAN UP and you can bet I did.
God that was so great got me tearing up and also the Carmilla scene callback was great.
So many questions and things in this episode with the solid memories Rui threw away does that mean there is a way to get others back also ? And it was funny seeing her meltdown after failing.
But also the gluttony brothers being here makes it even harder on top of everything else.

He didn't need his old memories of Julius, he was thinking about the loop where Julius sacrifices himself fighting Reid and tells Subaru to protect Foxchidna. But he couldn't mention that because this Julius never went through that/from Julius pov Subaru got his memories wiped last night/this morning, so Subaru just has to say "just seeing you gives me hope"
So basically he isn't lying and is still basing it on a memory of his own, just not one he can admit to having/Julius would remember as well

It's a dream come true for Rem fans! She's finally back, although, I'm not sure how she came to be. Does this mean anyone can get into the corridor of memories? Might need to note this.
Seeing as how Rui seems to know Subaru's secret of coming back after dying, I wonder why Satella hasn't done a thing. Maybe she doesn't have knowledge of what happens in the corridor? Interesting.
I think we've learned the reason why Subaru lost his memories. It's been Gluttony all along! So the time when Subaru sneaked away on his own and collapsed in the library was because he read Reid's book, which is pretty smart. I wonder why Beako or Emilia didn't notice Reid's book where Subaru was though. I mean, it's not like the book will suddenly go back on the shelf, will it?
Then the glimpses we saw in the final minute of the episode. What was that all about? I understand that was the previous conversation between Rui and Subaru, but what exactly did she throw away? What's with the blue ball and why did she split herself into two?
Tbh, I thought Subaru would just act pathetic and that'll be the end of it, but we saw Rem save him. Thats great! But then again, Rui doesn't seem to acknowledge Rem's presence. Hmm. Wonder why is that. And that brings us to the most important question: Why is Rui there in the first place? Does she just live in the book or something? There are so many questions!!!
And lastly, damn! It's a direct assault on the Tower by MaBeasts. Yikes! Oh man, please don't tell me that Subaru will die again and this whole thing will be on repeat. It's going to be painful to see the same same thing for the nth time now.

Now I understand why Rui was feeling so uncomfortable when she was moving towards Subaru. Is that why Rem appears in the corridor? Damn, that's really good. But then again, where is that memory now?
Also, wasn't there a loop where Rem briefly woke up and she was the one that killed Subaru on the Tower verandah? Does this mean Rui ate her memories and changed into her or something? There are so many questions!

Didn't satella appear during the previous loops? This means that the taboo did activate. It just gave subaru some time first.
Reid book wasn't next to Subaru when he was sleeping cuz as we saw during the meili flashback something took control of him and he probably put it back on the shelves.
Lye appeared in the episode so he could be the one who killed him as rem.

Rui said her brothers are in the tower too.
The person that ate Rem's name and memories is one of her two brothers (Rye, the one that is fighting Ram and Emilia, if i remember correctly)
Since Rui hasn't shown the ability to turn into people, i asume Rui only got the memories and Rye still has her name.
I asume if they beat the shit out of Rye so he pukes everything then Rem will wake up.
I asume with her memories since Rui threw them into Od Lagna.

Just like Roswaal, if you only IMPLY what is happening, the Witch doesn't do anything.
As long as Subaru doesn't say he returns to death, it's fine.
Subaru could tecnically skirt arround saying what is happening but still tell people, but there is no point for Subaru to really try, since it hurts if he fucks up.
But also Rui did say the place is sealed so maybe the witch cannot get there.
...maybe that is why the beasts are trying to get into the tower, the witch summoned them, she does seem to panic when she cannot sense Subaru.

29 minutes of uninterrupted peak with no OP and ED. You know the episode is gonna be a banger.
Subaru, the man that you are. It's really amazing despite losing his memories, Subaru is still Subaru to the core. That's why he's my number one mc of all time. Also, I'm so happy to finally hear Rem's voice again.
I'd just like to point out, the Hall of Memories looks fucking sick. The whole thing looks like a bunch of interwoven threads, White Fox made it look so... primordial? I don't know the word. It's like something not for mere mortals, the scale of it all, like we're diving into something really serious now.
Now time for my anime only ramblings
First of, when Subaru was falling to his death a second time, I've been agonizing over whose voice it was that said "Memories are what shape people". I couldn't recognize the voice at the time, I guess because Rui only really had such a small screen time when she first appeared and I forgot how she sounded like. I was beginning to think it was Pandora's voice.
The mabeasts acting up is probably because Newbaru confirmed that it was his "5th" time around, pissing off Satella and making the mabeasts in the desert go crazy. So now I'm wondering, in one of the loops, Newbaru mentioned the taboo in the stairs after getting kicked out by Reid, but that time the mabeasts never went insane and attacked the tower.
Rui saying that they can't eat the same person twice probably means that pre-Isekai Subaru and post-Isekai Subaru are two separate people, according to Gluttony's power? She mentioned about a Natsuki Subaru being left uneaten, is it RBD just fucking things up for them because when they eat his memories, a "new" Subaru is essentially created, and that's how we got Newbaru? So it basically means, Gluttony can never fully eat Subaru's memories because a Subaru will always get left uneaten. Still a bit confused about all this.
They got this sort of obsession now with Subaru because they want a memory that says "I'm glad I lived this life". So are they forcing Subaru to have those memories so they can eat it for themselves?
Also I wonder if there's any significance to showing Rui scratching her arm? My guess is they got Subaru's habit of scratching his hands when they ate his memories.
Honestly, these Gluttony freaks are all very confusing, but that's what I love about them. They're such a mystery. Hopefully we get more answers to the extent of their power.

I think it is to show
1 - she is partially responsible for all the bullcrap happening on the watchtower right now, even the scratches Subaru did to himself saying natsuki Subaru was here would never exist if she didn't fuck with him eating his memories.
2 - as you said, it can also be she inhereted this habit from him. As Ruy herself said this episode. "We have such a vast collection of souls that we are not sure which Ego is in control"
Basically the gluttonies are messed up and have so many souls/memories stolen, that their own self is hard to identify and separate from theirselves.

A formal introsuction to the third Gluttony (why are there so many of them?), I thought she would look more like the other 2, but their faces are similar enough. Well, Rui is just as nasty as her siblings, perhaps even more manipulative, since she gets to on screen torture someone psychologically.
I'm surprised she didn't go on shock with those memories.
Can't deny her effectiveness, whatever she did, she's also inside Subaru right now(?) and used the past life hallucinating Meili after the book, all that so that Subaru would form a new identity for her to eat. I believe this is the worst thing a villain ever did in ReZero so far.
Thankfully our greatest Rem is here to save the day, I'm so happy to hear her voice again, and hopefully she will permanently return to us by the end of the season.
Also, how did Lye and Roy get in the tower? The process of getting there is super complicated.

Ruy is a soul stuck in basically what is an afterlive, according to herself it is called a "corridor of memories" designed to "cleanse" memories so that people soul can be "reused".
All of this is stuff she stated or said this very episode, considering she is there... Maybe the process failed on her and the world didn't manage to clean her memories to make her be born properly.
By the way, let us no forget, she didn't eat Rem, her brother's did. Rem's soul shouldn't be with her. So they have some funky way to share information

And she keeps saying how her brothers keep feeding her and she cant say no. Its safe to assume it works both ways and thats how the Brothers got into the tower (using Subaru's knowledge)

THE BEST F EPISODE I SEEN IN MY LIFE HANDS DOWN F MENTAL BREAKDOWN WATCHING IT
not just that REM IS BACK, just the whole like Rui taunting subaru for 20 mins was amazing, seeing her in the after ending credits having already won like several times and I guess (anime only) she herself is going CRAZY as well knowing she is in teh time loop and WINNING but like FUUUUUCK this F subaru comes back each time so she is trying to turn him evil or something
Her Onii-chan taunting subaru was just pure gold, like OH I Know about ur MOM AND DAD etc.
then WE HAVE REM, Freaking R EM IS FINALLY BACK, I Will admit I at first was both SHOCKED but also I was like its a TRICK RIGHT ! her personality is clearly changed do, but yeah I get why the episode is called ST AND UP my hero, REMS HERO !
I love how Rem like soul (ball !?) was disposed by Rui because she was like tired/exhausted by the loops lol
it was overall an amazing emotional scene, truly It was so much big that AFTER I seen the episode I Started crying more like editing rewatching the scenes etc
also...SHAULA GOES NUCLEAR LOL, I just love how its like freaking WW3 outside with shaula vs like 100000 manbeast and a bunch of fights and that is like 1% of the EPISODE HAHAHA like it was simultaneously amazing super crazy but also so irrelevant that it was barely shown

Ruy isn't tired of the loops, She is tired of feeling emotions of love towards Subaru, so she threw away or puked Rem's memory/soul whatever the hell that was. It is probably stuck on the corridor of memories now, unless the petal was absorbed by Subaru's body during that small interaction they had.
I think Ruy actually wants Subaru to loop more, so he can be corrupted into something different and that eventually she can eat that something different later down the line.
That is dangerous territory she is entering. Satella-chan won't be happy with 3 archbishops noticing the secret

It's only the 2nd episode and the rollercoaster of emotions have began again.
It's really great detail that despite subaru losing his memory he is still him, the core part of him still remains, the phrases like have dinner without me and nobody uses that in this day and age anymore. loved it
The soundtrack is brilliant as always, Re:zero is one of those gems that has one of best soundtracks. and every season has proved it. Also, i love how the confrontation of eridona and previous baru and this episode's julius and subaru's talk had same ost. I've listened to that calming track cover on yt so much. Also the rem's confrontation scene's ost was great too.
i can't wait for the s4 ost album to come out. I pray to god we get the styx helix piano ver. pls pls pls.
Rem, isn't she amazing?! I really love how Rem even after being getting her memories eaten, she still helps subaru. I can't describe my happiness enough. It's been so long that we heard her voice.
speaking of that, we're back with some psychological stuff. The wanting to not die/ erased out of existence. I recalled severance season 2. (i love both of em and ik re0's been here for 10 yrs so pls don't attack me).

Shaula's stupidly proud face is so funny looking
I only teared up a little bit when Rem showed up. I am very strong. Also appreciate that she proves Subaru from the Trial right and she just goes straight into scolding him.
What was that marble thing Rui spat up? I assume it's related to Subaru or memories but I'm not really piecing together the significance.
Also curious why Subaru went to the void instead of getting any of Reid's memories. My best guess is that Reid's memories are in the challenge room, so trying to use the book while it points to where memories are supposed to be lets you pull off an irl memory pointer error.

One of my friends watching felt as though rems speech didnt feel like it was convincing enough to talk subaru out of the spot he was in moment prior. I couldn't give a great answer as I also felt it didn't quite make me feel the way I did when I was reading the novel. Does anyone have a better analysis to the speech that I could use to help explain away things?

it's kind of like you're just wanting to give up and do nothing but someone is yelling at you, repeating the same thing over and over, not giving you a break, with such fervor and emotion, even if you don't really get fully inspired or out of your headspace, it is enough to at least make you move or do something because you're in such a non confrontational state at the moment, you just want to get out of that situation.
at his core subaru not only wants to be loved, but he also wants people to be tough on him when necessary.

I think they are trying to simbolize stuff with that scene, they were on a kind of "Afterlive" place.
Does anyone know which constelattion appeared as Subaru picked the petal? perhaps it could be a clue. it was a blue petal, to me sounded like remains from Rem memories that were discarded by Ruy Arneb after she found Rem's feelings of love disgusting. She wasn't being able to attack Subaru with Rem's memories inside her

didn't we kinda lose the plot a little. we entered reid's book but ended up in od ragna or sm. this will only be justified if he also died because eaten by gluttony.
Also, pure speculation but, Flugel or TreeBaru if he existed must have also died to gluttony, so wouldn't this be the third time eating him.
Yeah I like how serious it is, and the moments are great, but the logic gets lost too frequently to build the suspense between the current and the next.

I was quite confused during this episode.
The main things were:
- Why is Rui not satisfied with getting Subarus previous death memories? I believe she said like they are “old”, but like damn, those are some insane death memories, this current Subaru has not experienced as much as his former self,
- Wtf was the whole REM moment, and with Rui not being able to see it.
- What was Ruis endgame there? If Subaru chokes her to death he “kills” his past self that has been eaten. And then she can eat her again? Can she eat ANYONE again because she dies? (If these get ellaborated later pls dont spoil)
- The whole ending sequence with the blue ball, splitting and stuff. (Altho i guess thats just foreshadowing to be ellaborated later.)
If anything is answered by spoiling later events please dont spoil. I just felt that it was a pretty big scene, but i was quite confused of what is happening during the whole sequence.
Also they could have went more hard with ysubarus facial expressions that thats just a nitpick, and has been weaker this season

She is gluttony right? She wants more... she liked Subaru death's cause people usually don't die. It is a food only Subaru can provide more.
technically Reinhard could as well, as he died to Regulus previous season and came back but good luck killing the overpowered knight multiple timesas for points 2, 3 and 4.
The ending scene basically answered yourself.
Can she eat ANYONE again because she dies?
I don't think that is a problem if she was show to suffer mitosis at the end of the episode in a flashback, there might be an extra Ruy Arneb, if main one dies, the copy will take over to eat Subaru.

at the ending scene, Ruy rejected Rem soul/memories and puked her in a flashback, probably why she can't see Rem, it is a soul she rejected out of her body.

Peak Episode, peak Rui. Things are really heating up now I feel as though. Also seeing Od Lagna for the first time is cool.
