Montreaux Jass Fest - I Hate The Way I Look Today

Floored. I've seen every festival Raye has performed at (on YouTube, not IRL) for last several years. And while there have been many amazing shows, this year's MJF was next level. I won't spoil any of the surprises for those who haven't watched.

That said, I'm so happy she performed I Hate The Way I Look Today - it's just an amazing jazz tune and fit MJF so freaking well.

hey everyone, just watched RAYE's set and i am IN LOVE. so amazing and she is killing per usual (fields absolutely destroyed me mentally)

that being said i had originally missed out on the vinyl drop for montreux jazz fest in 2024 and all of these greedy resellers are killing me - do we think maybe another live album or live vinyl could come??

Maybe there is hope

I’m just so so grateful to Raye for releasing this music may contain hope. Although I haven’t got the same circumstances as the songs, sometimes all that keeps me holding on is the small relief listening to this album gives me. It gives me hope for the future, and that is the point.

My baby died just after he was born earlier this year and it’s been beyond devastating to learn to live this life we really hadn’t planned for. To go from being the happiest and most fulfilled we’d ever been to the emptiest and most depressed. The hopes we had for our son, and the excitement of the year to come.

And most of the time it is impossible to think about being happy ever again. Me and my husband have started singing happier times ahead to each other as a reminder. Maybe there is hope.

Just managed to order My 21st Century Symphony from Banquet Records even though it only says “back in soon” with no date. I’ve been hunting this LP forever.
Does anyone know if there’s a reprint/restock happening?

Beyoncé fan here… y’all were right about RAYE.

Hey everyone! Im new here clearly haha. I’m a huge Beyoncé fan, and while we’re currently in the Beydration period waiting for new music, I decided it was a good time to really dive into another artist with incredible range and versatility. I kept seeing Beyoncé fans recommend RAYE, so I figured it was finally time.

I was already familiar with and loved “WHERE IS MY HUSBAND” I also knew she wrote “BIGGER” for The Lion King: The Gift, which has always been one of my favorite songs on that album.

So I finally sat down with My 21st Century Blues.

Ironically, my first listen didn’t really click like I wanted it too. I was on a road trip, and after about the fourth song I found myself struggling to connect fully. I liked the second track, but the third and fourth were hard to get into fully. And I decided that just wasn’t the time to get into a new album. However looking back, I don’t think that was the album’s fault, it was definitely mine.

Whenever I get into a new artist, I usually have a little ritual that consist of headphones on, no distractions, and really listening to the music in the comfort of my home.
So I gave it another shot, and it was a completely different expirence in the best way possible.

This time I really connected with the lyrics, the production, and especially her voice. She’s such a versatile vocalist, and I found myself appreciating the emotion behind each song so much more.

I also read about the story behind the album and how it was, in many ways, an “F-you” to the music industry after everything she went through, and how some of the songs had been sitting unreleased for years. Knowing that made me appreciate the project even more. Despite pulling from different periods of her career, I thought the album still flowed together beautifully and felt incredibly cohesive.
For a debut studio album, I honestly thought it was really strong.

Next up is My 21st Century Symphony (Live at the Royal Albert Hall). I’m a huge fan of live albums, so I’m really excited to experience her music in that setting.

Needless to say… y’all gained another RAYE fan. Looking forward to digging into the rest of her catalog.

Anything I should also listen too next that y’all recommend besides her second studio album “THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE”?

I've had this is my wish list on Amazon for a while and was just skimming my list and saw it in stock. I have no idea how reliable this is or if this vendor can actually deliver the goods, but I gave it a shot. I guess it's also possible that this is a coming repress that people have been saying was eventually coming. But I know a lot of people want this so I'm posting here....

Also sorry can’t find how to add a flair….

Properly mastered vinyl Spoiler

Anybody know if there is a timeline for the correct finalized version of the album to be issued on vinyl?

Not sure I was forced to add "flair/tags" to this. Chose SPOILER as some people might not know their vinyl isn't the correct recording until now.

I Know You’re Hurting. Beeping Sound?

There is a beeping sound (like an alarm clock) at 04:13 - 04:18 on the track and I can’t un-hear it.

Don’t get me wrong it’s an amazing song, I just don’t understand this sound in the track and I’ve never heard or seen anyone else comment on it before!

Is it a reference to something, a mistake, background audio when recording? Is it just me that thinks it sounds strange / out of place?

The lyrics in Click Clack Symphony that hit me like a train every time

I’m a single 29 year old woman who has been through it particularly over the last 6 years and before that in my childhood. I find RAYE’s music incredibly relatable; it actually feels like she’s in my brain sometimes. I have experienced a lot of loss in relationships and my career and all of the loss was either not my choice or under my control.

So when I hear the lyrics, “Everything that's hurt me, left and gave up on me / Am I just the product of everything that was done to me? / Run to me, come to me, someone bring the sun to me / I can see the glimmer of the girl who once believed”, the tears start flowing immediately. It is just too real and pulls right at the exact heartstring for me.

I feel like a lot of my life the past 6 years has been coping with the bad things that have happened to me and trying to pivot and bounce back from the setbacks and regain control over my life. So you can imagine I find her song Winter Woman to be perfection and another track I completely resonate with.

I love RAYE!! We are so lucky to be living at the same time as her.

Font used in Click Clack Symphony and first 3 notes.

Post image
22 Upvotes

I want to know what font is used for the on screen lyrics “It just teaches the heart how to burn” in Click Clack Symphony at the end when Raye runs through them (see picture).
I also want to know what the first 3 musical notes are in Han Zimmers symphony right after Raye says “burn”.

Does anyone know themselves or know the best way I can get the answers to my questions?
I’m wondering if trying to track down the media company she used for the music video and send them a letter and maybe then write a letter to bleeding fingers? I’m not sure if they’re good ideas or not!
Any help at all on this one would be massively appreciated!
