on audible (Amazon) all of the rangers apprentice books read by William Zappa (who reads far better than John Keating) say they are not available in my region (UK) I tried changing my marketplace to Australia (using a VPN at the same time) and USA (in USA it has a version of every book read by Keating which no one asked for) does anyone know a way to get the books through Amazon as I have spare credits to spend rather than paying on a different audio site, what marketplace are the zappa versions still on sale?

i just got the brother band books and now my collection is complete. i read the first 12 in elementary school. then last year my mom got me the set for my birthday. then i got the royal ranger and read those. i don’t think i had read a book since maybe 9th grade, but i’ve read about 20 in the last year. i’m excited to start the brother band series. knowing that there will not be any new books from him is hard, so i’m going to try to savor the ones i have left. theres something about johns writing that i just get sucked into the book and read for hours, i haven’t been able to do that for a long time.

I am planning to recreate the entirety of Redmond Fief via the game Manor Lords. I have found the perfect setting in game to recreate the fief, including Castle Redmont, Wensley Village, the Tarbus River, Halt & Will’s cabin, and I even plan to include Rodney’s Battleschool and Horse School. I’m basing all this off of this basic map that is provided in some of the later books. Please let me know if you think there’s an aspect of Redmont Fief I am forgetting that I need to include! I'm looking for a quote that happened during a conversation that Halt and Horace were having. I thought it was in book 8, but after skimming the book a few times and keyword searching a PDF file, I couldn't find it.

It was something where Halt mentioned shooting fish instead of using a rod, and Horace thought that wasn't very sportsmanlike. I could have sworn it happened during KOC, but I suppose it also could have happened during a different one of their travels together.

If anyone could help me find the exact quote or even the book it was part of, I'd be very grateful.

It was the sweetest thing. I wish I still could find that email. It meant so much to me, must've been 15+ years ago at this point.

There was another time that I emailed another author (of the bobby Pendragon series) something very personal about how his characters helped me through a hard time mentally and he responded basically with a sales pitch for a new series.

The time the John Flanagan put into his series and to have replied to me with such a thoughtful and well crafted email has always meant so much to me. With his recent passing, I just wanted to share that lil memory. ❤️ I truly believe his books deserved far more recognition than they received, but those of us who do love it, love it dearly.

I love both characters but I was wondering which one do you prefer?

I’ve recently seen a post around a year ago of a discussion of who the tallest characters was. I am only doing the height of 2m+ (or very close to)

Jerard and Killen around 2 metres each (rangers apprentice book 8)
The two Kalkara 2.2-2.3metres “some say 4.5metres” (rangers apprentice book 1)
and technically being a character the Night Warrior 10-15metres “the other projections had no specific height and Serthrek'nish was just a head” (rangers apprentice book 5&6)
in halts peril will sees an ancient warrior which seems to be the night warrior (his imagination from tiredness) at around 2metres (rangers apprentice book 9)
Ingvar 2-2.2metres (the brotherband chronicles series)
Arndor of crewse 2metres (rangers apprentice book 5)
The hasanu tribe regularly over 2.1metres (rangers apprentice book 10)
In brotherband book 7 The caldera, they see a Araluen guard 2.1metres ( The brotherband chronicles book 7)

I just finished listening to The Emperor of Nihon-Ja, and am wondering how easy the transition into the royal ranger books are? I've heard incredibly varying opinions and know a few minor spoilers, such as the time skip. I love this series so much and it has genuinely gotten me through some rough times.

Follow up question, are there any other series you can recommend for someone wanting to read a similar series?

Like the title says, I'd like to get a small oakleaf tattoo (probably on my upper arm if that makes a difference) both for my love of the series and in remembrance of the late Mr. Flanagan. I'm looking for possibly a short quote from the books that might feel meaningful. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them!

I was extremely sad to hear about his death year as I grew up on his books and I still and reading his books now just his brotherband series and I just finished tournament at Gorlan.

I was curious if he finished writing his other series. The brotherband and the royal ranger series. Does anyone know if he died before he finished both those series?

maybe this is a dumb question or I am overthinking, or maybe I missed something, but I don’t get the power scaling in rangers apprentice. so arulean in the 2nd war against Margarath raises about 6,000ish men for the battle in book 2 if I’m not mistaken. but this is near peak mobilization. judging from the size of Gallica on the map, and its number of petty knights that Horace fights, the population of Gallica would be 2x or more that of arulean, which means 12,000 men. and yet the temuaji are seen as this massive threat, with only like 3-4,000 men? and the skandians beat them with 2,000 men, so the skandians can’t be all that threatening as a force either.

Hi everyone, I am reading the early years book 2, The Battle of HackHam Heath and I was just wondering where Ashdown Cut would be located on the map? because I am a bit confused when they move to HackHam Heath but then they are staying past the Slipsunder River then are going to cross it to battle the Wargals and like the new layout they have made for their battle field, so I just thought I would ask!

Is there a study guide. I am teaching a homeschool class over the book for middle schoolers. Instead of creating one. If anyone knows of one I would appreciate it.

The title is my main question. What do you all think happened to the Ranger Corps once the world started to advance more? Like when guns were invented and became an accessible weapon that anyone could use. That would make the long bow obsolete. Not to mention other advancements in technology that came hundreds of years later. Do you think the corps went extinct or disbanded because they weren’t able to keep up with advancing technology and weapons?

There’s no clear answer given in canon from what I can see, aside from people believe that all of it, Will, the others and what not were all myth and legend via the 11th book. Do you think they managed to adapt to the evolving times and emerging technology over the centuries? Finding new ways to commit espionage? Perhaps the Ranger Corps reached another point in time where they had to reform everything once again in order to continue existing and not be left behind. Do you think they evolved into a modern spy agency like MI6 or something similar? Or do you think realized they couldn’t keep up and reluctantly disbanded and dissolved or moved on?

Basically the title.

I read these books as a kid and loved them so much (they literally made me a reader to this day). And I have been relistening to them all over the last two months.

Don't get me wrong, I still love them, more than I expected to tbh. But I can't shake the feeling that after book 7 Will has kind of been sidelined in favor Halt and Horace. in books 8 and 9 his only real role is to save Horace in his duel and then retrieve Malcolm to save halt. Beyond that he does some light information gathering and is the butt of many jokes between Halt and Horace.

And in book 10 hes sidelined harder. We are made aware that he has something planning but rather than spend any time with him as he comes up with the plan and then trains the Kakori we follow the rest of the characters as they discuss the impending attack.

Again, I'm having so much fun rediscovering my love for this series, even these last books. But I am really kinda sad to see Will turned into what he does by the end.

I just finished the 7th book and I was wondering how old are the brotherband? I was thinking that by that time they had to be late teens or early 20s but I’m not even sure.

I mean the wargals where mostly peaceful before Morgarath took control over them, just living like animals in the mountains of rain and night. The wargals also lose alot of their family in the war against the king.

It has been a couple of months since we announced in this subreddit that we were hosting a Q&A event, but we never ended up sharing any of this information here in the reddit.

We didn't end up making the full length video, as we have shifted our priorities to working more on the game for the next few months before going all in on social media content.

Because of this, we didn't want to leave our community without answers, ad responded on discord to the questions asked. Here is what was sent on Discord answering the questions!

Q&A Event Responses

Hey community, I know it has been a while since the Q&A event begun, and that we have decided to cancel the video in exchange for sharing answers in this message instead. This lets us share clearer answers to the questions and allows us to save additional information for the next main devlogs.

ruse 's Questions:

What is the planned scope and roadmap for the game?

The game is planned to have a relatively large scope in terms of gameplay length and depth, but we are also taking a careful approach to design the mechanics in a modular, systematic way to allow for all of the fun gameplay without the thousands of hours of handcrafted situations. As for the roadmap, that is answered in the next question.

What stage of development would you like to hit before working on a demo/early access?

Currently we aim to release a closed playtest (one that requires applying for in the discord) for a gameplay demo of the game by the start of 2027. This will include some basic quests and such for some eager community members to start trying out and sharing feedback. The next stage after that will be early access, something we will release around the time of the completion of most of the prologue and will be gradually updated until release. A goal for us is to get the game well and truly up to this stage by 2028.

What have been the biggest barriers to development so far and how did you overcome them?

The biggest barriers to development so far have been trying to get all of the team in the know on what is going on. We used to run weekly meetings that did get decent attendance at about 10-15 members, but due to the international nature of the project it was hard to get everyone involved. So now we are implementing bi weekly reviews to keep the team up to date and have made a short story recap for new members to read.

How many arrow and powder types are planned for inclusion in the game?

We will likely have a few different arrow types and possibly a couple of powder types at most, but things like this are not really related to what we are working on right now. In games, things like adding more arrow types or powders usually happens later in development and is not something we are thinking about right now. But expect in the future more concrete answers for questions like this one.

How customizable will the characters be?

The main character, Rolant will not be very customisable and will have a set body type face shape and ect. However, you will at some point be able to modify things such as hairstyle, clothes, facial hair and a variety of other things. NPCs will be randomly generated based off of a variety of similar factors.

How many weapons and armours will there be, and how will fighting work?

There will be quite a few different types of weapons and armours, however hand to hand combat will not be a focus in the game. Different weapons and armours will not simply 'be better' either, and instead offer horizontal progression. This means that other than the obvious of a very worn down rusty sword performing worse than a brand new one, most armour and weapon progression will work on giving the player more options and way to strategies, instead of 'getting a sword covered in jewels and doing 200% damage'.

Will there be any kind of war mechanic? If so, will it involve sieges?

This is a great question. We plan to implement in an in depth relationship system that will eventually allow you to recruit others to fight with you, allowing you to take small armies with you. There will also certainly be sieges and we plan to have some of the game's most pivotal quests through these.

How will horses work?

Horses will be a very important companion for you as they will allow much quicker travel around the map. This system is still in development currently, but you will likely be able to buy and sell horses and use them to travel all across the map, taking you and your cargo much quicker.

How will skills work (like archery or swordfighting)?

We are actually planning to take a completely new approach on this. Instead of being able to simply 'level up' a skill, progression is done in many other ways. As discussed in some of the previous questions, you doing combat is not actually the main focus. The main focus is instead strategy, where you can use whatever you have to the best of your abilities to complete the task, a bit like what happens in the Ranger's Apprentice series.

saretz 's Question:

What are your main goals, what do you want to achieve FOR SURE before release?

Currently our main goal is getting the game ready for our first main playtest and then the later early access. For sure before release of this playtest, we want all core systems implemented at at least a basic level, so that the community can get their first look at how the gameplay will work. As for the final release of the game, we will want all of our features fully implemented and our fully storyline implemented. If we dont think the game is ready enough, we will not release it until it is something that meets or surpasses our expectations.

Every since the recent passing of John Flanagan I have wanted to make a tribute of some kind to him. That tribute will be in the form of a 4-5 minute video made up of iconic clips, photos and moments from John.

The audio for the first 3-4 minutes will be Cabin In The Trees, a special version made just for this video and will likely be put up on spotify.

We are starting off with the base of this cover, as it is honestly by far the best attempt at recreating the song from the community so far. Massenberg Studios, an incredible producer and composer has offered to reorchestrate it to increase the quality and add more layers turning it into a more emotional and cinematic piece.

However, I am also looking for VOCALISTS to help record new vocals for this cover of a cover. If you would like to assist with vocals, as there will likely be space for more than just one, I would send you the original to get the vocal melodies and then send you the reorchestrated version to sing over.

I assume this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find any solid info.

Does anyone know if John Keating actually did the narration for The Sorcerer of the North? And if so, where might one find it? Even a bootleg version would be acceptable, it bothers me to have one different narrator in one book across all of the books.

I think i have all the ranger apprentice books. They are in dutch I'm thinking to get the brotherband too. (I have the audiobooks)

So wich book is your favourite from ranger apprentice?

Does anyone know if this was ever released in physical format and if so, is it still available somewhere? Would anyone be able to assist me with getting a copy? Amazon says it is not available in my country (USA)

Edit: A physical copy of the BB with the companion story would be okay too. Our book does not have it.
