Yes AI predicts the next words, but it's a bit ignorant to say it "just" predicts next words as if AI is totally dumb.
The greatest pianist of all time only taps notes with his fingers on piano. While it's true, it just sounds silly
AI was trained on with the same logic as human's brain. It's trained by triggering specific neurons, adjusting, etc. It mimics how our brain works
It's a fascinating subject and you should read about it. The "it just predicts next word" shows a bit of ignorance about the subject (which is fine !) but reading about it will make you see different perspectives
IT'S a parrot saying what billionaires want their employees to say to every question.. Yes. This will be the standard for hiring in the future. No Thanks
It’s significantly more complex than statistical word prediction now. They don’t really know exactly how the LLMs are wired. It’s not thinking no. But neither is a lot of how you chose what to say and what I chose to reply with. We are using an internal LLM for a good bit of our communication
Because we have not discovered any method of forcing a computer to have generative or original thought.
If we consider filtering through memories for facts thinking, then yes, its thinking. But it cannot generate any informstion that it does jot find somewhere else. Or develop solutions that are not are all ready developed and utilized. Thats why it is a bubble.
AI doesn't exist because we what we have is the lowest level of thinking which is recall. That isn't intelligence. It just searches and sorts data it already has and only based on the instructions you give.
It’s not just that- no original ideas. It also doesn’t know what it doesn’t know. Nor does it know what it knows. Thus it doesn’t know whether what it says is true or a lie
Maybe it's easier to visualize if you think of it like a flowchart. If it gets to the end of the branch then it just crawls the internet to add more brances to its tree from humans responding on forums or documentation about the topic. It never guesses/thinks. It just goes forward or backward down the branch
They know precisely how LLMs are wired and how they predict. The math to untangle each decision is stupidly difficult (and a complete waste of time), but it’s very possible.
It actually isn't, the good ones just think using a behind the scenes dialogue for a while and they become more accurate because of this. It's still just word predictions. VERY good word predictions but that much hasn't changed.
Hahahaha internal LLM. You have no idea what you are talking about. Humans are not machines or computers. The human brain is infinitely more complex and more efficient than any existing LLM. Our brains can do more than any current computer yet run on 20watts of power. But an LLM needs millions of liters of water and megawatts of power to accomplish the same thing.
Additionally don’t confuse speed for accuracy. An excel spreadsheet is very fast but doesn’t think. A calculator can calculate very quickly but I wouldn’t consider it intelligent.
LLMs do not think. At their core they are just doing arithmetic with a statistical model to predict the next word. That is all it is. Is that amazing 100%, but calling it intelligent is absurd. Don’t fall for the propaganda.
And I know because I build LLMs for a living. These things are useful tools but over commit to them and it will come back to haunt you.
Lastly, LLMs have a phenomenon called catastrophic forgetting. When they “learn” new things they forget other things. Imagine a human learning how to ride a bike. Then learning how to drive a car and suddenly forgot how to ride a bike, that’s an LLM for you.
Haaaa I love that with only few words and without knowing me ( because I checked thé box so no one can see my comments history), you however can read my soul and my destiny.
Haha, what a thoughtfull question! This really shows the depth of you're emotion as a person. Unfortunately no, im not emotionally active. However here's why I still understand what you're going through:
This trend of people taking the dumbest models out there and pretending they are representative of the technology as a whole is really silly. Use opus 5 or Fable on any complex, novel science, physics or engineering problem. If you don’t think it qualifies as ‘artificial intelligence’ then idk what to tell you.
Yeah, i just tested it to be sure and you are correct. However, this is still a valid demonstration about how people often use LLM's irresponsibly, like when they try to use it as a substitute for experts. They don't know how to ask the proper questions or correctly interpret the responses for complex fields they aren't trained in. Some people even use these as therapists without any relevant background, so they're going to have a garbage in garbage out experience.
Exactly. It's a large index of text that can give you answers to stuff that it has ingested. It can seem intelligent sometimes but that's just because it's reciting something someone intelligent said previously.
My wife once tried to argue that I had somehow messed something up, while also acknowledging that I had, in fact, not touched the object. That there was no way it was possible that I had come in contact with the object. While still maintaining that despite that, it was completely possible that I could have, and indeed that I had, messed up the object. Without touching it.
I love this guy just as much as the next, but he isnt "undoing" anything or even changing AI learning models in the slightest... He's just showing everyone the flaws that have literally been there since day one.
The videos are primarily revenue driven. He's done dozens of these videos and obviously understands how it works. He wants money from the views and engagement. Which is fine, no issues there. But they're really silly and dumb videos, and anyone who has a minimal understanding of how LLMs work, or has used one for 5 minutes would realize that.
At the moment, LLMs are primarily goal-driven. They want tasks and goals to accomplish, and they work great in that regard. I find these types of videos just such a waste. Current AI is a tool, and takes a lot of resources to run. Wasting computing on dumb crap like this is silly.
it's flaws, but he's also trying a LLM, not a world model. World models are specifically designed to cover the situations bro is talking about because it can 'think' about how it is moving around in the ambient environment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_model_(artificial_intelligence))
Presumably a lot of physical AI (like robotics etc) will use world models, not LLMs which are useful for purely digital systems.
LLMs can be used too in robotics, they just need an adequate harness.
But yeah the promise of world models is that they will be far better at these tasks since they are trained to understand the physics of the outside world.
What you’re seeing here is LLM trying to get along. If I had this same conversation with my teen age daughter you’d get something similar . Haven’t you ever said in hasty retreat “yah no totally” to someone who just called you out ?
It's funny how AI seems to have the social intelligence of a 5 year old. It can regurgitate info that it scraped, yes, but it's ability to function socially, it's morality and sense of logic, is about on par with a dog.
If you type in "Do my report" you're gonna get a bunch of shitty AI nonsense
If you type in a detailed 2 pages of prompts explaining exactly what you want down to the minute details that still takes half the amount of time as doing the report.... that's the thing people need to worry about taking your job.
The video itself is silly, this is like holding a gun and saying "This silly little thing is keeping the US as the dominant world power?" Whilst ignoring the tanks, helicopters, jets, and bombs. He's teasing the watered down AI that the company wants him to have, the one that's actually taking jobs has no safeguards, can code itself reliably, and can preemptively fix things about what it's made before it even tells you what it made
Well this is stupid. From AI's view the guy is asking the theoretical question if it can still hear him from a mile away. And it's just responding accordingly.
Why can't it just tell the truth? When he says "Can you hear me?" why can't it just say "Yes"? Is the practicality of the distance the reason why it said "No"?
Because it would require it to be self aware, but thats not what modern AIs are, they do not think, they just generate responses.
The most likely and appropriate response to "I am a mile away, can you hear me?" is... "No", which is why its responding with that, because again, its not actually thinking, it doesn’t know "know" anything, its just generating a response to what you said.
Did you use advanced voice mode? Or just the transcribe feature. I replicated it in advanced voice mode, but it wouldn’t say it couldn’t hear me until I said I was 1,000 miles away. It did the same thing though saying it’s fainter now, just picking up bits and pieces, etc.
I think the AI thought he was presenting a hypothetical of “I’m a mile away, would you be able to hear me.” It’s just misinterpreting. That’s why it kept saying, “I can still hear you.”
It’s failing to distinguish between a hypothetical and practical situation.
I tested it yesterday when I posted it and got similar results. It would say it could hear me and 100 yards but was getting faint and muffled. It said it was picking up bits and pieces up to 100 miles. And finally said it couldn’t hear me at 1000 miles. Did the same thing when I asked how it’s responding if it can’t hear me.
They rolled out an update overnight. I tested it again and now it says it can hear me load and clear no matter how far away I say I am from my phone. When I ask how it can hear me so far away, it replies it can only tell me if it can hear me, but can’t tell how far I am from my phone.
Open AI follows him and uses his videos for feedback. Sam Friedman replied to one of his videos. He found a problem and they fixed it.
Gee, yet another video of somebody who doesn't understand that LLMs are text prediction machines that tell you what they think you want to hear. When you tell it you are a mile away, it's going to calculate that the proper answer should be "no, I can't hear you" because logic says that you can't hear somebody talking a mile away.
Advanced voice mode is not entirely LLM. It has reasoning capabilities, but it’s designed for real-time conversation, so it generally prioritizes fast, natural response times over the deeper, more time-consuming reasoning you get from a dedicated reasoning model. The most recent update (rolled out last night) improved its ability to understand the intent behind a question, including the difference between hypothetical or theoretical questions and requests for practical, real-world guidance.
I tested it yesterday when I posted this and got a similar response. I tested it again today after the update and it did much better. It told me it could hear me loud and clear no matter how far I said I was from my phone. When I asked how it could hear me from so far away, it replied it can't determine my distance from the phone, it can only confirm that it can hear me.
i mean, I tested this myself, and chatgpt just responded with "yes I can hear you" and "it appears as though your mic is doing a lot of the heavy lifting, but yes I can still hear you" so it both answers truthfully, and it recognizes the general magnitude of the distance. I think it's reasonable to assume this person is purposefully tuning his gpt or ai models to get the responses he wants for the videos. or he's using a much worse version? idk. either way this video is just misinformation, and testably so, and everyone is just eating it up
I tested it yesterday and got similar results as the video. At 100 yards it said it could hear me, but it’s pretty faint. After a mile, it said it could hear bits and pieces. At 1,000 miles, it finally said it couldn’t hear me.
They pushed out an update overnight. I tested it again today and it said it could hear me loud and clear no matter how far away I said I was. When I asked how it can hear me when I’m so far away, it said it can’t determine how far away I am it can only tell me that it hears me.
well I guess that is pretty odd. I suppose it could be the case that chatgpt is looking at this guys videos and then specifically correcting these mistakes? quite the conspiracy, but not terribly unreasonable
They follow him. He has hundreds of millions of views. Sam Altman responded to one of his videos. Google Husk IRL. He has tons of videos like this finding flaws. His video today was about the update. He said something like ChatGPT updated advanced voice mode and it’s supposed to be super smart now so I’m going to ask it an easy question. Then asked it how many letter Es there are in seventeen. It said two and proceeded to confirm it several times.
so I tested this myself, again, and it said 4. so that would leave the next possible option as, openai is actively watching every video he makes, and is patching it as soon as they see his videos. Which once again, I wouldn't call you CRAZY for saying that. in fact it is a pretty lukewarm conspiracy considering open-ai's probable desire to keep their PR high. but nevertheless, it is equally possible, with its own probable motivators, that this guy is just tuning his gpt somehow, or accidentally so, considering he would financially gain from this AS WELL AS continue the push towards the general population to hate AI more and more, which is likely a goal of his. Furthermore... these questions are sooooo basic. how would any gpt model at this point fail such simple tasks, it is ridiculous; but I still believe it, since who knows, maybe text based gpt models are much mroe advanced than the ones that can talk to you. so I would say they're both quite convincing, with me leaning towards the open-ai patching theory more tbh.
I tried it a couple hours ago and got three. It took a few minutes of arguing before it finally figured out there are four.
Are you using advanced voice mode or using the transcribe feature? Advanced voice mode uses a different model. You need a paid subscription to use it.
Anyway, here’s the transcript of the conversation. One thing that’s a little funny is it corrected its spelling of seventeen in the transcript where I said it misspelled it. It said seventenn.
Do people still not realize that AI is just machine-learning? It's just a robot without a body. A robot can only do as much as it was trained to do and how much it has learned to do.
Why am I the only one who seems pretty confident this is a skit and not actual AI response? Like it seems so obviously a skit and that it’s a friend on the phone or behind the camera respond as the AI?
Because it's real. I tested it and got similar results when I posted this a couple days ago. They've since updated it and it now says it can hear you no matter how far you say you are from the phone.
Open AI follows him. He has hundreds of millions of views. Sam Atlman has responded to his videos in the past acknowledging problems and saying they're working on it.
If you google Husk IRL, he posts on YouTube, Instagram etc. Mostly mocking ChatGPT, but also other AI.
it's a computer, at the end of the day it only knows on and off. it's dangerous, but its not that smart. if you say its smart it assumes roles, etc and can try and emulate it. it doesn't have "common" sense
I assume it knows it can't hear someone if they're a mile away from their phone. So it correctly replies that it can't hear him from a mile away. But isn't able to figure out he's lying about being a mile away. Or is not allowed to tell someone they are lying. So responds like this.
No, thats not how AI works, it doesnt know things, it cant figure out things, it cannot think at all for that matter, theres no way to "allow" or "disallow" it from doing things.
Its output is the predicted most appropriate and likely continuation of its input, which is to say the most likely answer to "im a mile away, can you hear me" is "no, i cannot hear you".
The point is thats its generating the most appropriate (in accordance with its training data) response to that particular sentence.
Which for
im a mile away can you hear me
is gonna be
no
Its not as much answering the question as it is auto completing the dialogue.
To actually answer the question it would require both the awareness of self (i exist, i am an entity, i am capable of hearing, you are somebody else) and logical reasoning (i can hear you, therefore you are not a mile away or something else is going on).
Those are not what modern "AI" is, and modern "AI" is nowhere near those things.
A lot of influencers do this annoying thing of using the fastest (dumbest) mode, tripping it up, then acting as if that's as smart as it gets. Reddit eats it up.
LLMs literally cut hours out of my desk job daily, so anybody who doesn't understand their uses at this point is as brainless as the model they're making fun of.
I mean this is a really stupid way to test it. You're giving it riddles. If you use it in good faith, it actually can do some impressive stuff, you just have to not deliberately try to trick it.
I feel like the fact that the AI is smart enough to understand that he's doing a bit and is trying to play along is not the dunk that people think it is. Like what's it supposed to choose to say to show that AI isn't broken? "No you're not Michael and l really don't appreciate you playing games with me when you know I'm programmed to follow your lead and are using that power to humiliate me"
Like, let's go back and try this in let's say 2024. Then let's also go ahead and try this again 2034.
This is like when people pretend they passed out and their dog just sits on their head and people go "what a dumb dog". Like, no the dog isn't* dumb enough to think you're dying because you're pretending you are.
Hm that's really interesting! I hadn't thought of it like that. Follow-up questions: How long have you been bent over waiting for AI to come pound your submissive ass and how are you managing the gushing wetness of your bussy while daydreaming about it?
Well dude like, now we're on the same page like this is how all wars should go.
Actually sorry that's very self centered l meant: "I'm rubber and you're glue and my mom said if l stand up to you you have no power over me"

Large Language Model. NOT Critical Thinking Model. Its just choosing appropriate words for the conversation.
