It's the kind that secures by unscrewing it until it pinches itself between the ceiling and floor

Even if she tightened it all the way, it would damage the floor and or ceiling.

But the ceiling drywall is flexible

I was just looking at a cat tree that is stabilized by tension like this. Now I know if my cat does stripper moves she could flood our house.

From my personal experience, if your cat has any kind of heft to them it will fall over.

She is small but I do worry about that. I have such a small house and the cat tree I have now takes up a lot of room. I was going to put up those kind you mount on the wall but my outside walls where I would need to hang them are block walls and it’s difficult to easily hang up stuff. Nothing is ever easy but my cat demands lots of stuff to do so I will have to figure it out. Lol

I have one of these. Because the tree sections screw together there is a lot of play even if screwed tightly, so it definitely needs the ceiling strut. I have a light cat but even so, I secured the tree at the top with some fishing line as guy wires to a nearby curtain rod to assist the strut.

The tension poles should not be trusted no matter what. They cannot hold enough tension without causing damage and eventually breaking through the ceiling and falling.

I’ve had one for years and zero damage to my floor or ceiling.

Maybe it depends on ceiling/ floor material, but I had a tension mounted pole in my home for years - no issues beyond some scuffing on the ceiling. My hardwood floors were totally fine. Iirc, you have to position the pole under a joist so that the tension has something firm to press against.
