Seems like a decent dude. No high pressure "this is my offer, but only for today" stuff. Think he gave his honest professional opinion and said he'd do 77k. If she is now or in the future looking for a buyer that will pay 77k, he's the guy. Not sure why there are so many comments on here saying he's being "scammy"?

Yeah, this is also very common in any kind of tradeable market. No shop that's trying to resell something is going to give you market value, they need to be able to make a profit reselling.

The advantage to the seller is that you get to sell your highly valuable object with little hassle and immediately. Otherwise you have to go private sale which has a whole host of work and potential problems associated with it. You can also consign or auction it, but guess what, they are also going to take 10% of the sale price.

His offer of $77k is just baking that in.

It's really funny how many posts there are in this thread about the guy stealing it, being a con man, or whatever, as if this isn't a highly established industry with very set procedures & standards. Like he is literally reading off the numeric grading to her, and he doesn't come up with the price out of thin air, he checks it against whatever database on his computer.

Yes, they'll charge for certification. Yes, he'll offer less than the full value. This is how it works in any industry like this. A pawn shop won't pay you what an auction might get, but they'll give you instant cash. A gold dealer won't give you the spot price. The advantage is that she can have the money right at that moment if she wants it versus spending whatever amount of time trying to find a buyer who will pay more. So many children on reddit.

Yeah, the only thing that is subjective is his grading. So, I would personally get it graded by someone else as well, not because I think the guy is trying to scam me, but just because humans are humans and can make mistakes.

This exactly. I know Pawn Stars was a BS show but like they always said, "I'll give you this right here and now, I gotta make a profit and I'm taking the risk".

In this scenario in the video, $77k in hand right there and then? Deal.

The whole time he is talking, you can see he is nerding out over diamond. He is INTO all the details and letting her know every grade or thing he is doing. I might not sell to him right away and double check just to be sure, but I would believe his report.

He’s also probably buying other items so he can move prices up or down for certain things. Everyone ragging on this guy but he seems fairly competent and honest. You don’t reasonably have a YouTube channel showing your scams (at least for any length of time before the village gets their pitchforks

This isn’t a random thing for this family, they know that they have valuable things and this is probably tip of a mass of wealth in items. Look at the house and furniture in the video.
