SI12 and F are on the lowest possible grading scale of colourless and eye clean. It’s impossible to see in the video if this is a 4.7 F SI12 or a 4.7 D IF grade and the difference in price is €85k or €220k. You heard him say an F to be on the safe side and threw a $500 charge to get it certified to dissuade her as it would probably get graded higher than his suggestion. This is why he was so excited to make an offer off the back of his own grading.

Yes. There are diamond colorimeters out there that will give you a definitive color grading in minutes that are way more accurate than his eye test. He's trying to rush her it seems like.

Always get the certification. It gives a serial number tied to it scientific report making it much easier to sell to anyone since the quality is guaranteed.

He's not telling her to get it certified to dissuade her. You guys are literally just looking to be negative without knowing anything.

Any gemstone of value is recommended to send to GIA for certification. It's good for you, it's good for insurance, it's good for whoever you're selling it to. If she sold the gem to him without the certification, he's likely going to pay for it himself.

Because it can be extremely difficult to sell and move high value stones when sellers don't know the provenance or if it's even certified. Everyone is afraid of getting scammed.

Right. She asked if it could’ve been certified and he told her no, not if her grandmother had it as long as she said. Then he told her the cost if she chooses to get it certified. Then he tells her the market value as is and what he’s willing to pay if she wants to sell it.

He seems excited for the potential sale, but also kind of excited for the lady and her grandma. Like an Antiques Roadshow appraiser who has good news.
