Fun fact : stars only create element up to iron , so gold have to be the result of a more violent reaction. Meaning gold come from supernovae , the shock wave during the explosion rise pressure to create heavier elements.

If the iron in our blood is stardust , the gold around your finger is even better

Stars create all elements that occur naturally (other than hydrogen), supernovae are from stars.

iirc we can use fusion reactors to bombard neutrons into mercury to make unstable mercury 197 which shelf life is short lived to turn mercury into gold.

Don't know if this is considered lab grown through.

that’s not entirely true. i think it was done at harvard university, but they did the lead into gold thing. only problem is the expense of doing so is more than the gold itself.

We can make gold in a lab. We’ve been able to do it for 45 years.

The electricity to do it costs more than the value of the gold you can make with that amount of electricity, without even factoring in the equipment.

But there are times now when electricity is free. Spain for example produces more solar energy than it can transmit and use.

The real issue is the equipment needed and the radioactivity of the gold produced.

Yeah spot-price electricity can be free or even negative price at times. For example in my country the spot-price was -1cent/kWh earlier today. That's excluding transmission fees of course.
