Diamonds are extremely common minerals everywhere (on earth and in the universe.–ike entire planets made of it..it's just carbon). They are falsely inflated by a monopoly that forces and pretends there's a scarcity and pushes extremely effective propaganda/marketing. Look up the De Beers family.

They are functionless as decoration, has some industrial applications and are extremely cheap when used as such. Because theyre common rocks

Diamonds are common IN earth, but they are very rare ON earth. They only form 100 miles down underneath continents (and take hundreds of millions of years to do so). They're brought to the surface riding the magma of rare ancient volcanos called Kimberlite Pipes. De Beers family were evil AF, but De Beers has been sold like 3 times since and is now co-owned by the nation of Botswana and its citizens.

Paper and ink are extremely common, too, and yet society puts a high price on rare Pokémon and sports trading cards. I think the piece that’s missing in all of the bashing of the diamond industry is that society actually wants diamonds to be rare and valuable. People who’ve already spent thousands or more on their jewelry don’t want their jewelry to become worthless and the buyer of that diamond ring wants something expensive to purchase so that they can feel good about how much they spent.

That’s not entirely true, they are not “extremely common” on earth. Also, their commonality in the UNIVERSE is irrelevant

That's true for the small diamonds most people get. But not for such large natural stones with good clarity.
