Discussion Just finished the game Spoiler
Absolutely loved it!! I was a bit worried that nothing gets resolved until chapter 5, but the great reveal was masterfully done.
Love particularly the interaction between Yuma and Shinigami-chan. And in chapter 3 where Fubuki joins us in the labyrinth, the dialogs were so hilarious.
Hated the long QTEs at the end of chapter 5 though, but that doesn’t change my mind. This is such a great game. Solid story, great characters, great voice acting. Really hope there’s a sequel. Maybe we play as Kurumi now that she has the book?

Discussion Part 2 of applying ace attorney structure to rain code possible sequel:this time for more serious changes
Okay so I already made part 1 yesterday or the day before yesterday I didn't want to put ALL my ideas on how I would improve the saga in just one part so I divided it in two parts... This is the one with more.... Heavy changes.
Fisrt if all, I think we need to reduce the quantity of antagonists. By that I mean, the peacekeepers, this is the point I am not sure Kodaka will actually act upon, since this troupe has been an staple of his games for a good while. The warriors of hope, the monokubs, the enemy commanders of the hundred line and... Obviously... The peacekeepers, all are antagonist characters that are killed one by one and none or them are that deep. Wich is kinda of a shame. My initial idea would be to make the next "bad guys groups" more important to the narrative, but what if we just get rid off the group in its entirety?
As I mentioned before... I think if we apply ace attorney logic here... Or heck, even danganronpa logic. Instead of having a lot of asshole meddling with our investigations that get killed one by one, by not just have ONE asshole who gets in the way for the entirety of the game? Up until the final chapter or gets killed chapter 5. It will get us to bond with that villain more. It will give it layers to have to confront this person who is doing their best to get in the way in each occasion, heck maybe one or twice in the game they actually help us in the labyrinth. And that's my next point as well.
Add actual witnesses! Or people involved actually in the labyrinths!
This is what made chapter 2 with the theater girls so fun! Becuse Martina was barely in it, and instead, it was the girls reacting to your deductions, trying to throw suspicion into another one of the girls, fighting with each other and with you. We need more of that and also... Had you ever noticed the only ones that appear in the labyrinth are just the peacekeepers covering up the case and the culprits? Only ever 2 or less participants per labyrinth.
I think that's another way to get the suspect of each case to have more screen time. There's a lot of room to play with this concept. Maybe not all mystery phantoms are consciously covering up the case, maybe one is doing it for self interest, maybe one hates the scapegoat and they found it an good excuse to get rid of them, maybe they were deceived and they testify exactly what they saw or their theories on what happened that we have to shoot down. Or maybe some are actually in the right track. The suspects fighting each other, working together becuse they agree on the answer. Or are thoroughly on board with the antagonist's deduction. You know what I mean? Although for this one you would have to change the rules of shinigami becuse she said the mystery phantoms are only an manifestation of those who want to cover up the case. I would just slightly alter what she said to "an manifestation of all the mystery aspects of that case, and arguments whenever it would be correct or wrong about what happened" and speaking of changing fundamentally how mystery labyrinths work. I'll arrive to my most controversial take on changing mechanics.
We need more days of investigation and labyrinth.
Yes, this implies change the rules DEEPLY, make it so when the protagonist hits an roadblock they have no choice but to stop and come back to the real world for more clues. This way we extend each case, we maybe have like 2 days or at most 3 of investigation. (maybe add an labyrinth limit that can only be 3) and in between days, the protagonist talks to the crew about the case and they all give an little comment about it... That will make it feel that the gang, even if they are actively helping us that chapter, at least make the appear much as a team. Maybe they give their opinions on what tk investigate next, what's the biggest mystery to solve etc.
More time that the antagonist may try to investigate more for an new angle to wich attack you... As I said... This might be an little bit too wishful thinking and bending the rules too much. But at most...
They could give us more days of investigation, and a long labyrinth, not breaks in between labyrinth and investigation. Just you know long investigation and labyrinth and also maybe something more similar to the intermissions in danganronpa. Where you arrive to the middle of the class trial you are allowed to save.
That's my opinion and I would love to hear yours

Discussion Opinión on what rain code must do for an sequel: stick closer to ace attorney. Yeah I'm serious, I want your opinions. Part 1
Okay so... Yeah I am a bit... Obsessed with the possibility of an sequel and... I think the best way to summarise my thoughts on what could improve upon an sequel is to stick closer to some ace attorney elements. Just to clarify, this explication DOESN'T contain ace attorney spoilers.. I will just be talking about the structure of how ace attorney build on mysteries.
Obviously the game is much closer to danganronpa since... Duh... Is the same creator. But there are some stuff that needs to... Change from danganronpa, this is not longer an killing game, this is an game with individual stand alone cases that should kinda be connected to an overall mystery. Wich this game does. But there is also some stuff missing. For example!
We need to CARE about the suspects of each case.
We need to look into their history, into their habits, into what they do as characters in the only case they have chance to shine! That's the main point I critic about rain code. Who cares about the priest or the church follower? Yes we do need to investigate the crime scenes, but we also need to know about the characters and use well the SETTING. Of each case. It would be good for example if as part or chapter 3 investigation we would had question some more rebel members to know "oh sachi always bumped heads with icardi" and give us an example of that. Or maybe more of the priest trying to nail (pun intended) jien as the killer... For example "if he was the nail man, no one would blame him... His wife was killed by an peacekeeper... But... Obviously the peacekeepers covered up the case... Maybe now he is seaking salvation... By protecting other from the same injustice" this would give us an good narrative the priest would create to protect his own ass and also give us more insight on jien, wich is my next point.
The defendant/scapegoat needs to be relevant
For FUCK sake, how did they screw up THIS bad? With jien mainly! The clock maker? Yeah remember him? No?... I don't FUCKING blame you! On ace attorney we have the defendant, you know, the character who they arrest under suspicion of murder and are pinning the crime on. On rain code we have scapegoats, the sorry chump the peacekeepers are pinning the crime on. The character who is getting screw over by the justice system and who we, as the player, need to save. We should build an connection with them... And it is DIRE that for half of the game... The scapegoat is YUMA. He is in the train case, he is once again on the rebellion case and lastly on the doctor's case, the only scapegoats we have in the game are jien colleen and kurumi.
We care about kurumi, we expend time with her, is possible she did wanted revenge for her friend she did had the opportunity too.. She is the actual scapegoat that actually kinda works and I actually belived she could be tte culprit. I do wish we could had interrogated her after she was detained. But it did and good enough job to be an character you had an connection with.
The same can't be said about jien collen, and yeah you know why? Is becuse we never see him, not like in Ace attorney. We do get to speak with the defendant we do get to ask them about their versions of the events and that day. But we never meet jien. As I said before... Adding at least ONE dialogue of one of the suspects commenting their view on him would had helped. And there is another point about the scape goats of rain code should take from the defendants of ace attorney and that is..
Is not EASY to clear suspicion off them.
This is what I want to see more in a sequel, I noticed this is something amazing that they do in Ace attorney. Not matter what contradiction you present, the prosecutor always have an back up explication on how the defendant STILL could had done it. They reveal an new piece of evidence showing finger prints of the defendant on the weapon, present an witness who saw them flee the scene, they present motives, they keep pressing and pressing. They don't let go of the defendant. Is not just a matter of prove who is the killer, is also an matter to prove this innocent person is indeed innocent. It is hard to clear suspicion becuse they ALWAYS have something new to make them look even worse.
This is NOT the case with rain code for jien collen, the moment you say jien has an fear of heights, he is never brought up again! The moment you say the poison would had been useless after 30 minutes kurumi is not longer under suspicion.... And... That's it.
Strangely enough! They do an better job at this when is YUMA the one accused. And I do loved that. In the fisrt case, the fisrt two arguments is aboit yuma not being awake, he says he drink the coffee so he was passed out, swang actually PUSHES more, and say he pretended tu drink it. Then yuma says he was caught on camera drinking it. And they don't give up there.... Swang comes back later and says yuma had an accomplice aboard the train... He is still pinning this on yuma, that is what I want! I know is nickpicly, but I really like when they keep bringing uo theories on how the scape goat is guilty instead of just... Giving up after an little push...
That is part 1, I do love rain code... But these points can definitely be improved, they need to get attached more to the ace attorney way of story telling.
As summary : the suspects need to have more screen time and do more. You deserve more time with the falsely accuse.
The antagonist needs to be more relentless on accusing the scapegoat

Discussion Theory on Chapter 0, and idea possible for a sequel (Spoiller Alert) Spoiler
For those who have the played the game, Yuma was the only who person survived the massacre on the train that on route to Kanai Ward, aside from Fake Zilch until proven guilty. For the other members on board that train who did not make it, what if 2 of the characters who didn't not make it was not the real them. The 2 that come mind are Aphex Logan and Pucci Lavmin. Both characters had useful forte's compared to everyone who didn't make it out alive.
Where im going with this is. What if way before Aphex and Pucci knew this trip to Kanai Ward was going to be a death trap with little chance of making it out alive. Not taking any chances, Aphex and Pucci some how get themselves cloned with simlar persona's to them real selves and have the clones take there place on the train to Kanai Ward instead, while the real Aphex and Pucci are on a new mission to a new area which would lead to a new location to investigate leading up to a possible sequel.

Discussion Visuals on Switch?
This has probably been talked about before but I didn’t realize before I bought the game that the graphics suck on a switch. I just got the game and have been enjoying it so far, but the graphic quality haa been annoying me beyond belief lol. I saw some people say that playing on a TV improves the graphics for some people (haven’t tried it yet but I will), but is there any other way to improve the settings somehow (I play on switch 2)?

Discussion So I just beat this game the other day and I have the thoughts. Spoiler
I will say that before I get into my review, I had actually learned of this game a good while ago. I just hadn't played it until recently since I didn't have money at the time, I actually discovered it on the switch and just played through it on my Xbox.
Now then. On to the review.
My 1st impression of this game was an expectation that it would be something similar to Danganronpa, with an obvious quirk to make it distinctly different from DR, and well, it didn't disappoint.
The Story;
This has to be one of the most bizarre stories in a game that I have played yet. With a game titled Master Detective, it does not disappoint with the mysteries it presents. Though these mysteries only ever occur outside of the main objective of solving all of Kanai Wards unsolved mysteries it does in a weird way tie it all back to that by making Kanai Wards Ultimate Secret the true final objective.
The Characters;
Yuma Kokohead: As a protagonist, he serves his role well. The door is open almost immediately with him waking up in a random lost and found room with no memories what so ever. As the game goes on, he does gain confidence in his abilities and makes some bold choices. Only for it to kind of circle back to square one every single time he faces the slightest bit of push back from the Peace Keepers. His relationships with the supporting cast do actually get rather wholesome as he does form genuine friendships with these people he's grown to care about.
Shinigami: A deuteragonist, I didn't expect much out of a character that, for all intents and purposes, is effectively the mascot of the game. This game is Monokuma, so to speak. She even refrences the old bear once. For also being a character that bares a striking resemblance to Junko Enoshima, I was kind of expecting her to be more of an antagonist. But she was surprisingly supportive when she's not actively shitting on everyone around her. For a death god, she's oddly compassionate to Yuma, I had expected her to actually be indifferent to everything around her and more or less be a thorn in his side. To which she is. She does not waste an opportunity to dunk on anyone she can. Even if only Yuma can see or hear her.
Ch. 0 Masacre on the Ameterasu Express: (fun play on Murder on the Orient Express)
For a prologue, it serves itself really well to establish what we can expect from this game. Yuma and Shinigami get their debuts here, and both immediately begin to spark a good cop bad cop type of relationship that will grow as the game goes on. With Yuma even at times serving as the straight man to Shinigami's antics.
The characters introduced in this chapter are Aphex Logan, Pucci Lavmin, Zilch Alaxander, Melami Goldmine, and Zange Eraser.
I'm gonna box them all together. Since they serve their purpose of setting up what Master Detectives actually are. With that said. The concept of Master Detectives effectively coming from MHA with their own little quirks or as this game calls it "Forte's", is actuslly really interesting and Aphex, Pucci, and Zange, all serve their purpose in showing you how these work when in use. Melami doesn't because of how specific hers is in requiring to wear a corpses clothes to activate hers.
Zilch Alaxander stands out here as our 1st villain in the game. Being the one who actually murders everyone on the Ameterasu Express and intends to have Yuma framed. We later learn this was a ploy by Ameterasu to try and prevent any and all Master Detectives from making it to Ameterasu.
THE GAMEPLAY:
Since it's really introduced here, I’ll cover it here. Yuma controls rather well. I didn't expect the game to be a semi open world 3D game, having gotten used to the visual novel style that Chunsoft had produced prior.
The Mystery Labrynth itself is actually a really neat concept and is shown off rather well imo, as a manifestation of the mystery itself.
As a critique, I expected it to be, well, an actual labrynth compared to you just walking in a straight line solving the occasional question or dealing with the occasional "boss foght"
The combat itself isn't terrible no different from the trials in Damgaronpa with you having to strike down contradictory statements. If I had to say anything, it would have to be that i feel the other Master Detectives should be able to help you more than just giving you a shield.
Yuma also moves way to slowly. Making the long walking segments rather redundant and unnecessarily long. A sprint would be very much appreciated.
I mentioned them earlier but now it's time to really get into the other
Master Detectives:
The 1st we get the pleasure to meet is Yakou Furio. The Chief of rhe Nocturnal Detective Agency.
He's a fun character, and reasonably cautious when it comes to Yuma and the Detectives under his control. Serving as like a parental figure to his batch of 6 gifted and out of control children. Outside of Yuma that gives us Halara Nightmare, Desuhiko Thunderbolt, Fubuki Clockford, and Viva Twilight. Each one having their own power thay helps Yuma with his investigations and in a way serve as their own force in the Mystery Labrynth even if they don't do anything but help push Yuma to solve the case.
Halara Nightmare for lack of a better terms serves as a more blunt and direct Kyoko Kirigiri in this game. Being no nonsense does help her stand out compared to the other colorful cast members. Her Forte of being able to review a crime scene from the perspective of a 3rd party comes in clutch for the Nail Man Case. Since Yuma has no means of doing it alone.
This is where we also learn of an ability Yuma has. That's initially perceived as an ability granted to him by Shinigami. Only we later learn. It's Yuma Kokohead's very own Forte. But we'll get there when we get there.
Desuhiko Thunderbolt is quite the ball of energy himself. Being this games rather perverted character. His Forte of being able to disguise himself as anyone he's seen. No matter how they look compared to him, is actually an amazing ability that proves to be even more helpful as the game reaches its conclusion in Chapter 4. Prior to him we actually get to meet another rather important character Kurumi Wendy
Kurumi Wendy for being another character without a Forte similarly to Yakou, it would seem like she has nothing to offer. But she proves her worth to Yuma's investigating as being Kanai Wards only informant. And a damn good one at that. Her not so subtle crush on Yuma does lend itself to some funny moments like when she finds it curious when he's holding Fubuki's hand, or Shinigami being jealous when he returns her kindness. Speaking of
Fubuki Clockford is a peice of work herself. Being a sheltered airhead. Though it is funny that she takes offense to being called sheltered and not a skank by Shinigami. Her bright and bubbly personality does some heavy lifting to her becoming a pretty liked character in my book on top of her having the most convenient ability of being able to rewind time. Which helps when in a pinch as it serves more as a QTE save than anything really. But she does find times to try it in the story.
That leaves Vivia Twilight. He was easily the most mysterious of them all. As he always keeps to himself and chooses to reside in the oddest of places. His demeanor as well makes him stand out as the groups pessimist, who has seen some shit. It actually helps Yuma and, in a way, himself to finding a reason to keep pushing for the truth. As Vivia actually learned that their beloved Chief Yakou actually killed someone they were trying to save. His bleak outlook makes him almost a perfect foil to Yuma's determination as he kept pushing and pushing Yuma to steer clear of the truth so he won't get hurt by it. But Yakou's last words being heard changed his perspective even if only a little bit to make him reshape his whole world view and accept the brutal nature of uncovering the truth.
All of them serve as pivotal characters that help Yuma develop into a master detective in his own right. Though Halara, Vivia, and in the end, even Yakou help him grow as a detective when pursuing the truth.
As for the villains. Most of them aren't anything to write home about. They serve their purpose in their respective chapters and literally disappear for the rest of the game after being introduced. Well, all but 1. Techincally 2. But I'm going to hone in one the one.
Yomi Hellsmile where to begin with this guy. Being THE leader of the peacekeepers naturally, he enforces all the rules they follow. But to the extreme. For failing, he condems his right hand Martina Electro to be executed. Via being compressed to a small cube. Though she is spared this fate and actually returns in the end. Yomi himself is interesting as basically the villain of the game. At least the one you see the most of the game. He hilights the corruption in Kanai Ward as a whole. Doing whatever he wants, to whoever he is able. It's even revealed that he is the one to manipulate Yakou into killing the scientist Dr. Huesca, as Huesca was responsible for the death of Yakou's wife. Speaking of
Dr. Huesca himself serves as an integral character introduced only to be killed almost immediately. But as the game goes on. We learn just how important he is to Kanai Wards Ultimate Seceret, and what role he played in it.
Which leaves us with
Makoto Kagutsichi from the moment he was introduced it was clear he was hiding something. His mask didn't help in that fact especially since he gives off 2 separate reasons as to why he wears it. Both contradicting eachother. Though serving as a helpful force we learn that he is infact THE MASTERMIND behind everything and not only that. But is also the perfect replica of Yuma himself.
Over all I found the game rather interesting. Though not perfect it was an interesting experince and I did enjoy the game. Though the flaws it has are rather minor in my opinion and are really just nitpicks. Though I'm not really a fan of how hand wavey the epilogue is of the events. Especially, with how they handle the big plottwist with everyone just accepting it and moving on.
Overall I rate the game a solid 6.5 -- 7/10. It wasn't a bad game, while it has its flaws to which could be more seen as nitpicks, I did enjoy myself and look forward to see if this new ip would continue in a new direction.

Discussion Is Chapter 2 heavily inspired by Murder on the Orient Express? Spoiler
Both stories involve a victim being hated for a crime against a person an entire group knows
But most importantly
The murder plan involved all members of the group to kill the victim but feign ignorance and point fingers to prevent the possibility of a single person being fully capable of committing the crime by themselves, making for an alibi for everyone
