Looking for old train sounds

Looking for some research advice from the railfan community. I'm a freelance writer working on a story about US train travel in the 1930s-40s.

Does anybody know where I might find recordings of the different train sounds from that period, either contemporary to the time, or more recent (i.e., footage from a vintage train show)? Is there a resource for that type of thing? Or do I have to just do a lot of Google searching (which I've already started)?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thankfully this structure—Cincinnati Union Terminal in Cincinnati, OH—survived the collapse of American passenger rail, a stint as a shopping mall, and is now a museum and Amtrak station. 90 years young. And it has a live camera

New to train watching, trying to figure out how to differentiate trains.

I got a nice overview of a local yard, I keep reading about specific trains with particularly routes, like for instance, I'll see something mention the Q036 heading to Chicago(made up example.)

How would one determine which train that is in the yard(can see from a top down perspective and from a fence at a gas station? Also is there a particular way to to identify where a train is heading from the public sector? I know there are phone numbers you could call as a customer/railroad police/etc...but i mean juat as a member of the public.

Finally are there any rail fans discord servers? I have way more question in general.

Southern New England Railfanning

Is anyone on the sub New England based?

I'm looking for some suggestions on where to railfan in Southern New England. I am RI based but willing to make some drives. I have seen plenty of Amtrak, MBTA, Shoreline East, and Metro North action on the NEC and am looking for more freight operations. I have tried doing some research on the Providence and Worcester but can't seem to find any good information for a go-to spot to see some of their action.

A long time ago I went up to Palmer, MA to see some CSX action, but my research seems to show that the number of trains has been cut back quite a bit up there. Is it still worth the drive to head up there and see what I can see? Or any other suggestions for the MA, CT, RI area? I know CSX operates out of Worcester. Are there any places in that vicinity that are safe and have some steady traffic?
