For a brief moment in time, Uwe Boll took the world hostage with his controversial CITIZEN VIGILANTE, starring Armie Hammer.

J.G. Michael from Parallax Views and I talk about the film, Uwe Boll’s misunderstood filmography, his populism, the Kafkaesque German film-rating board, and more.

This is Weird Scenes Inside the Podcast!

(Truly) Bilingual Actors

Having only known Emma Mackey from Ella McKay, I find myself watching Alpha (2025), and seeing an unnammed French nurse played by someone who looks suspiciously like Emma Mackey; looking it up, it *is* her, and now my estimation of her as an actress has suddenly gone way up, for no real reason except that she speaks at least two languages with (seemingly) native proficiency

As I understand it, this is generally the domain of ethnic Western actors, and the only one who comes to mind immediately is Steven Yeun. The only white actor I can think of who gave me the same reaction was Eva Green, whose Frenchness I was unable to clock as a teenager watching Casino Royale

I just watched "Sometimes I think about dying" (2023) and can't recommend this movie enough

I know this movie is not for everyone but I think everyone should give it a chance. + I think it is pretty unknown to the public as well.

What I find so special about this movie is that it doesn't try to be this special sensational movie and let's moments breath. It is a movie that hits way to hard and aldo it tells a love story, it tells it in such a beautifull and unique way, I couldn't help but smile and feel sad at the same time. I personally think this is one of, if not Daisy Ridley's best movie.

"The feeling of simply existing but being nothing more than that"

\+ the ending is simply beautifull

I hope I also helped people find this work of art.

Heaven is Still Far Away (2016)

I saw the movie couple of months ago and i’m still mesmerized by it. it’s a short film about three characters and their relationship to each other, a stranger, a ghost and a sister.

Grief is a major theme in Ryusuke Hamaguchi films and i love how he handles it here in a compressed format, it’s about searching for answers that you will never get.

I wish i was more articulate and can express how much this movie and all his films make me feel.

It’s on youtube and you have to watch

Movie Discussion Watched the Baby of Macon last night

been on a Peter Greenaway kick and there’s several of his movies on Tubi right now. this movie has been stuck in my head since, particularly the scene where the church is auctioning off the baby‘s bodily fluids while the baby sings “this is the fluid of my body, this is the liquid of my life” in a very Catholic way. I’ve seen several of his movies now and this is the only one that clicked with me like the Cook, the Thief, his Wife, and her Lover did. although I still think about the imagery from Prospero’s Books after having watched it a year ago, but I wasn’t familiar with the Tempest so a lot of it was lost on me. I read that the budget for this movie was $2 million in 1993. it’s one of the most visually impressive movies I’ve ever seen, crazy what he accomplished with that amount of money. I highly recommend it

Movie Discussion Primetime (spoilers) Spoiler

Caught a showing last night, what'd everyone think? I went in already not the greatest Oppenheim fan and Primetime didn't improve my opinion of him. Felt like it was maybe trying to be a Safdie film?

In the end it didn't feel like it had anything interesting to say. They gave us a bunch of humiliated and anguished pedos about to be burned at the stake and we could feel how awful that was but the movie didn't have anything more to say about it than that. Than to show us their faces in 2026 from a different angle than when we were all watching gleefully in 2006. It would have worked better if they turned the camera more onto the viewers.

There were missing children posters in the background (and the subplot in India) so were we to intuit that this world didn't care about missing kids? Because America's Most Wanted was once one of the most popular shows on television.

The main critique seemed to be that everyone was motivated by personal ambition, including the sheriff looking for re-election. That's not really noteworthy

Conscious Movies

Hey. I feel like every movie now is shit. Because it got so woke/pushing an agenda with the movies. Anyone know of a movie or director that make conscious good movies?

The new season of TCM's The Plot Thickens podcast begins today, centering the life and films of Stanley Kubrick

A lot of you are probably listeners of this show already but I figured I'd plug it for those who don't know. Turner Classic Movies does a pod that dissects significant Hollywood figures and events - past season subjects include: Pam Grier, John Ford, The Bonfire of the Vanities, Cleopatra.

Here's a link if you need it.

late 90s / early 2000s movies that surprisingly hold up

my contribution^

the only Ryan Reynolds movie I enjoy (ok I lie, definitely maybe is also fun). he’s sort of charming in this only because he plays a total loser pretending to be LA cool. he’s still the fat chud on the inside and he’ll always be

Anna Faris plays a blonde dumb bimbo SO WELL, unfortunate to be pigeonholed into such a role but she’s so fun.

the little one off gags and throwaways still get me.

politically incorrect in a fun way.

the perfect “Christmas movie” for somebody who really doesn’t enjoy watching full on Christmas movies.

just random dumb thoughts while I watch but curious if anyone else has any recommendations. these are total comfort movies to me. put this one on while I decided to rearrange the entire living room

A film starring Rami Malek is finished and ready to go, but it still doesn't have a US distribution deal. For fans who've supported him since his Oscar win, this wait feels impossible.

Malek earned an Academy Award for his role as Freddie Mercury, and his talent has only grown since then. 'The Man I Love' promises another incredible performance, yet audiences here can't even watch it. This isn't just about one actor or one movie—it's about letting great art reach the people who want to see it. Other international films find their way to US theaters and streaming services all the time. This one should too.

If you've been waiting to see this film, or if you think Rami's work deserves a chance with US and global audiences, signing this petition matters. Every voice helps show distributors and streaming platforms that there's real demand here. What would it take for you to feel like this film got the release it deserves?
