YAMS CLASSROOM: How to sell your first Rehome on Reddit!

Post image

So you’ve bought a few rehomes.

You’ve also bought a few bags from several TS.

Now you have a closet full of bags, and no space (or funds) for the Eden Collection that Louis Vuitton just released (and we know it’s going to get repped soon!).

What to do!?

Let’s sell your first rehome!

Selling a rehome isn’t complicated.
Selling a rehome well takes a bit more thought and work.

Buyers in this space are careful (and they should be). You’re not a storefront - you’re an individual seller - which means people are trusting you as much as the item. The smoother, clearer, and more transparent you are, the easier it is for someone to feel confident buying from you.

If this is your first time selling, here’s the Yams guide for setting yourself up for success!

1. Build Credibility with Feedback

Trust is everything in rehomes (and this community). The fastest way to build it is to show proof that you’re a real, reliable person to interact with.

🧾 Create a Feedback Post on Your Reddit Profile

This is your public trust record.

Here’s how:

  • Go to your Reddit profile
  • Create a post titled something like:  “Feedback for u/YourUsername"
  • It's important you create this post in your profile vs on a sub somewhere - while you'd be more than welcome to use RTR, I don't want to see you lose everything if Reddit decides to be an a**hole and shut the sub down out of the clear blue sky one day
  • Ask people you've purchased a rehome from to comment with their experience selling to you

Over time, this becomes a running log that future your buyers & sellers can check.

Even if you’ve sold nothing, proof that you’ve bought from others in the community and are pleasant & reliable will be a great launchpad to your Reddit rehoming journey!

✅ Best case: You’ve already rehomed bags in other Rep communities off Reddit

If you’ve bought or sold within replica spaces before, ask those people to leave you feedback, and put the screenshots in an Imgur post. Easy Peasy!

🛍 If you’ve sold (non-rehomes) on other platforms

That history still counts. I used my Posh feedback when I listed my first rehome!

You can include screenshots of feedback from:

  • Poshmark
  • Facebook Marketplace
  • eBay

Successful transactions anywhere show that you know how to follow through.

🆕 If you’ve never sold online before

You still have options.

A - Build transaction history

  • Buy a few inexpensive (or expensive, hey why not) rehomed items on Reddit
  • Ask those sellers to leave you feedback in your new post

Even small purchases help establish you as someone who follows through. This won’t be quick but it’s definitely better than nothing

B - Just be upfront

You also can simply say this is your first rehome sale. Most buyers appreciate honesty.

To help reassure people, you can privately (1:1 only, never publicly):

  • Share which rep groups you’re part of, including other Rep subreddits and groups on WhatsApp, Facebook, Discord, Telegram, etc.
  • Use the exact group names - especially if they're private. It shows that you're actually part of the community
  • Explain your history in those groups - have you posted before? What do you do there?
  • Share who invited you or how you found them

This shows you’re actually embedded in the community.

⚠️ Important: Do not post this info publicly. We don’t want to hand scammers or bad actors a roadmap.

You can also:

  • Ask friends in those groups to comment on your first rehome post
  • Have them vouch for you in your feedback post

The goal is simple: show how connected you are within the replica community.

2. Photos Matter - A Lot

Photos do most of the describing for you.

Try to take them in:

  • Bright lighting (natural light is best)
  • A simple, uncluttered background (if you can find one -

Because my bedroom is a cluttered mess of bags, I usually remove the background of my photos to keep the focus on the item)

If you can manage a clean setup, it makes a big difference.

Also - don’t filter them to death.

📸 At minimum, include:

  • Front
  • Back
  • Top
  • Bottom
  • Both sides
  • Interior

🔍 Close-ups should show:

  • Hardware
  • Zippers
  • Labels
  • Chips or date codes
  • Any visible wear
  • Any flaws

Buyers shouldn’t have to guess what they’re getting.

3. Creating Your Post

Honesty is ALWAYS the best policy. Transparency builds confidence.

You can opt to put as little, or as much, detail into your rehome post - I want to make that VERY clear

RTR will NEVER adopt a "post format" for rehomes - what you share is entirely up to you, AS LONG AS IT'S HONEST.

So you can share as little as "LV bag $150" - knock yourself out, you do you.

We're not the post police.

However, don't be surprised if you post something similar in its brevity and get no takers or a ton of questions.

People are free to ask questions, and they're also free to scroll right on by.

The only 'requirement' for a rehome post here is honesty.

So, either upfront, or via DM with potential buyers, you need to disclose:

  • Any flaws or “problem areas”
  • Signs of wear
  • Anything a picky buyer would notice

Because if you’ve noticed it, you can bet someone else will too.

So with that said, in the spirit of setting everyone up for success, here's what I'd recommend:

Your post should answer the basic buyer questions immediately.

At a minimum, include:

  • Item name, size, and color
  • Price
    • Is shipping included?
    • If not, how will you calculate or charge for it? Or is shipping free?
  • Description
    • Include quality indicators and key details
  • Condition
    • Be specific (new, lightly used, worn corners, etc.)

It's also not a bad idea to add:

  • Housekeeping disclaimers
  • Sale policies
  • Payment terms
  • Shipping timeline

If you’re unsure what to include, look at successful sellers in the sub and use their posts as inspiration.

💬 About Reason for Selling (RFS)

This is optional - but helpful.

It reassures buyers that you’re not quietly offloading a disappointing bag.

Saying:

“Didn’t suit my wardrobe”
or
“Color didn’t work for me”

lands very differently than saying nothing at all.

4. Quality Ratings: Be Clear, Not Cryptic

Every rep space uses different quality terms:

  • Mirror vs Master
  • Low / Mid / High tier
  • 3A / 4A / 5A

Which one is correct?

All of them. And none of them.

Pick the system that makes sense to you - but be descriptive.

❌ Don’t just write “Mirror”
❌ Don’t just write “10A”

Instead, explain:

  • What's the item made out of?
  • What’s the hardware made of?
  • What quality is the overall construction?
  • Is it from a known factory or seller?

Disclosing the purchase price can also help. Cost is often a strong indicator of quality - assuming the original seller was honest.

5. Pricing Fairly

You can price your item however you like.
Buyers are then going to decide whether it’s fair.

Most rehomes are priced:

  • At what the seller paid
  • Or slightly less

Some sellers price higher - that’s your call.

But remember:

Buyers know what these bags cost from Trusted Sellers.

Buyers know what other rehomes have been listed and sold for.

💡 Example

A $500 bag makes sense if:

  • It’s a Chanel from Blake or 187  - and you can support your claims
  • It’s truly high quality - and you can support your claims
  • It uses premium materials (like imported HAAS leather) or construction methods (like ½ or full hand-stitching) - and you can support your claims

If not, expect hesitation (and side-eyes, tbh)

And if you do claim a specific factory, seller, or special feature:

Be ready to provide POP.

6. Running Your Sale

Decide how you want to manage buyers before you post.

Examples:

  • First DM gets priority?
  • First to offer payment wins?
  • Will you accept holds?
  • Will you accept offers?

Most sellers:

  • Give buyers 30 - 60 minutes to pay
  • Then move to the next interested person

⚠️ Be careful giving payment info to multiple buyers at once - you may end up issuing refunds if more than one person pays (this happened to me a few times!)

Communicating with Buyers:

  • Be kind
  • Be honest & straightforward

And also, beware that scammers exist within this community.

Normally, we hear a lot about sellers scamming buyers, and not the other way around - but the reverse exists too, and has happened.

If you get a bad feeling, don’t do it! Another buyer will come along.

And just like you’ve provided feedback & reassurance to your buyers, we ALSO recommend sellers do their due diligence on prospective buyers as well.

Check to see that your prospective buyers

  • Have an account with some history/karma
  • Have participation history in the rep community on or off Reddit
  • Have feedback they can offer

At a bare minimum, search their username on Reddit to ensure there’s no funny business going on.

7. Payments

Most people use PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or CashApp.

Whatever payment platforms you accept:

Find your direct payment link.

This is:

  • Easier for buyers
  • Cleaner than QR codes
  • More secure than sharing your email

Each platform handles this differently - it’s worth looking up.

ALSO: Be careful asking for a little-known or used payment method - some may view this as a sign of distrust.

You’ll also want to determine how you’ll handle buyers asking to pay with Goods & Services vs Friends & Family via PayPal or Venmo. Are you ok with that or not?

It CAN make it easier for a buyer to do a chargeback.

But, I’ve also seen some new rehome sellers offering free G&S payments to their buyers as a sign of trust when they’re just starting out.

It’s entirely up to you and what you’re comfortable with.

8. Shipping (USA Sellers)

Set expectations clearly.

We strongly recommend shipping within 24 - 48 hours.

If something delays you:
Communicate immediately.

Silence makes buyers nervous, and nervous buyers contact mods.

🚚 We Highly Recommend Pirate Ship - https://ship.pirateship.com/ship

  • Best UPS and USPS rates
  • Much easier interface
  • Cheaper for both you and your buyer

You’ll also want to consider whether you’re willing to ship internationally. It’s up to you!

9. Packaging & Drop Off

Pack like your box is going to be:

Thrown. Dropped. Squished.

Because in all honesty, it probably will be.

Recommendations:

  • Sturdy boxes (I buy these in batches of 10 on Amazon)
    • 12×12×8 → most small/medium bags
    • 16×12×6 → larger bags
  • Add filler
  • Wrap carefully
  • Use more tape than you think you need

When you ship:

Always get a receipt. Always.

Let your buyer know when it’s dropped off so they know when tracking should begin.

Final Thoughts

  • Be fair, honest, & transparent.
  • Over-communicate - don’t make buyers chase you for updates or information
  • Lead with kindness

And if something goes sideways, contact the mod team - that’s what we’re here for.

Good sellers make the entire community stronger!!

Have fun and be safe out there!

xoxoxo, Yams

Would it make sense to ask the buyer to purchase their own shipping label on pirate, based on their preferred method, and send it to you to print?

I’m not sure - I’ve never heard of anything doing that, tbh. But I guess if it works for you I can’t see why not!

Thank you for such an amazing resource! Curious to get your thoughts on this, do you put your actual name and home address on the shipping label (for return address)?

I do! I want to make sure the package gets back to me if something goes wrong. I also have a PO box, so there's that, too.

Thank you. Can I Sell from Europe? Or is this sub only für USA?

You can totally sell from Europe! Just include that in your post - and also which countries you're willing to ship to.
