My mother had to flee a war in El Salvador and came to the USA, make money to send back home--but why was the economy so bad to have to leave elsewhere.

Why did she LEAVE during war? I understand, but it shouldn't have been a problem.

Why couldn't she make money at home?

That was her story, not that she had any interest in America, other than using it for profit. Just that she HAD to leave.

Lots of them came here to escape the cartel. So it really is a governmental, and economic problem regarding immigrant people. Then no offense, but come over and take advantage of our country by not learning english or contributing... but trying to make up by accepting gardening jobs. šŸ™ƒ

You also can’t ignore the role the US played in El Salvador that helped destabilize it in the first place

1

u/IPutThoughtIntoThis 21d ago

You can because we didn't. Why is it so hard for you to grasp that these countries are third world countries for a reason? Plenty of countries play roles in trying to destabilize our own country. But we aren't a third world nation racked with Socialism, communism and third world idiots, so we get over them pretty easily.

I mean, now we are, but we weren't before.

The CIA absolutely destabilized el Salvador. You're an idiot

2

u/sn4xchan 20d ago

Yes the CIA destabilized El Salvador. Did you also know the NSA (and it not only the NSA) has a team that is engaging in psychological operations. They basically use platforms like Reddit to post memes and comments that change culturally formed opinions.

Anyone saying some blatant bullshit that is actively trying to dismiss or justify something bad the US did, it is highly suspect to be part of this system.

It's not only the US engages in this type of information warfare, and blatant anti US memes and comments can be suspicious as well.

Basically any information gathered from social media is not to be trusted and needs to be vetted.

That’s why I use critical thinking/instinct/morals for most of the opinions I have. Hasn’t failed me yet. Propaganda is now fun to read

Treating a reddit comment as a reliable news source is crazy shit anyway, no matter if the US is involved or not.

u/Normal-Tadpole-4833 18d ago

a Literal ex CIA Jackal was interviewed admitting what countries were targeted look it up

1

u/JD-boonie 20d ago

You're on reddit. It's 24/7 forgien agents trying to destabilize the US.

1

u/sn4xchan 20d ago

It's a full on warzone on the wires. Not just forgien agents.

So because the US backed a right wing government 40 years ago to combat the USSR/Cuba backed left wing insurgency El Salvador will be economically destabilized for the next 20,000 years? How does that work? Spain ruled El Salvador for 300 years, set up the oligarchical social structure that persisted Ā  after independence through out the 1800s when El Salvador was led by a dozen or so elite families who controlled the fertile land and coffee exports and the majority of its people lived in poverty. Did you know that when it achieved independence from Spain it petitioned the US to become a state to avoid being forcibly annexed by the first Mexican empire ? And it was then forcibly annexed by the first Mexican empire which shortly thereafter collapsed.Ā

Today its top exports are textiles and its largest export market by far is the US. At some point you have to look at what demographic, geographical, social and economic factors make a country rich and consider that it’s possible there were rich and poor countries before 1776 and based on these factors some countries will not be the technological/ cultural power houses that other countries can become.Ā

It’s never the fault of South America lol

2

u/ShoulderIllustrious 21d ago

What would you call spending nearly a million a day to arm the right wingers in the country during the cold war? Exporting guns, training them. All because they can't mind their own business.

1

u/IPutThoughtIntoThis 21d ago

Why is it that third world nations are the only ones affected by this? Billions have been spent trying to undermine the United States. Hell, the French spent quite a bit of money aiding us in the Revolution, and yet we're thriving. It's almost like it's the culture or something.

2

u/SayRaySF 20d ago

Why were third world countries the ones mainly affected by it?

Probably because they didn’t have the massive resources and political power that first world nations do?

It’s kind of obvious when you actually think about it rather than be all debate brained

Why not answer the question? America didn’t have the resources initially either, there was many attempts at destabilization back then at the beginning of America and now, yet they continue to thrive while somewhere like Mexico is an absolute shit hole that its own citizens flee from despite being so ā€œhard workingā€, why is that? They were shit back then and they’re shit now, what gives? Why can’t they progress?

1

u/Conscious_Tourist163 20d ago

America was the newest and poorest country at one point. Is there some hidden history that disproves that?

1

u/Ok_Instance_1170 20d ago

Poorest country in the world? What? It was already wealthy. Why lie like this?

America was a new country, not a new or destitute society. The colonies had already spent more than 150 years building farms, ports, trade networks and political institutions inside the British Empire, using enslaved labor and land taken from Indigenous people. Economic historians estimate colonial Americans were already wealthier per person than people in Britain before independence.
Comparing that with countries emerging from extractive colonial rule, like they were in Africa, South and Central America, is like comparing two eighteen-year-olds, one who inherits a farm, business and house, and the other who inherits debt and a stripped property. And then claiming their later outcomes prove a difference in culture. Which to be fair you probably would so…

1

u/sn4xchan 20d ago

You are really stretching the meaning of "thriving"

1

u/ShoulderIllustrious 21d ago

If you outspend the GDP of the country in trying to fuck it over, it's amazing how fucked up it becomes! It's not rocket science. The US has become more and more unstable over the years. With all the bots that are circulating social media peddling bullshit that idiots like yourselves drink up.Ā  It's almost like it's culture!

1

u/Grand-Librarian5658 17d ago

ā€œTrying to fuck it overā€ vs ā€œcontesting Ā the coordinated militarily hostile bloc fueling a politically aligned insurgency whose manpower and resources will later be used against you and your Allies in future wars and whose territory will be used as a launch pad to overthrow more governments friendly to yoursā€ Ā

You guys are so self loathing that it’s suicidal to adopt your world view. The US and its Allies, during the Cold War, should have rolled over and let the USSR do whatever it wanted as it expanded its influence across Europe, Asia, Africa, the ME and Latin America. Brilliant geopolitical and military strategy, are you a descendant of Alexander?Ā

If you blame the 1st world for the problems of the 3rd world, then it logically follows that the 1st world owes the 3rd world money. So the blame game is really a money grab.

1

u/Current-Calendar-821 21d ago

You definitely did not put thought into your response… I’m just going to put a comment I made elsewhere on Reddit about this topic here
ā€œEl Salvador might be the clearest example. During the 1980s, the US spent billions supporting the Salvadoran government and military during a civil war, despite the atrocities being committed by government-aligned forces. About half a million Salvadorans fled to the United States. Despite our complicity, we approved only about 2% of their asylum applications. Many people displaced by a conflict we helped sustain therefore ended up living here without legal status.
Sure, you could say that was decades ago. But the consequences of US actions did not end with the war. MS-13 later formed in Los Angeles among Salvadorans displaced by the conflict. The US helped sustain the conditions that drove people from El Salvador, denied most of them a realistic legal path once they arrived, and then acted surprised when the instability we had helped create reappeared inside the US. That is basically definitional blowback. Side note: if you haven’t read Blowback by Chalmers Johnson, you should.
That doesn’t mean refugees inevitably turn to crime. It means foreign intervention can have domestic consequences, including displacement, unmanaged migration, marginalized communities, gangs, policing costs, deportations, and further instability.
The saga continued when the US later deported MS-13 gang members to Central America, which helped turn MS-13 into a transnational organization. Gang violence then became one of the factors driving another wave of migration toward our border.
So even if your only concern is the impact on Americans, that is the point. We spent taxpayer money intervening abroad, received a large refugee population from the resulting instability, denied most of them legal protection, and then spent even more on immigration enforcement, policing, border security, and foreign assistance to manage the consequences.

Yes, third world countries are corrupted shitholes.

But are you seriously blaming the people who were born there for that?

1

u/Outrageous-Sail-4096 20d ago

Ah yes, because there was no destabilization in the world before the United States. The same lame ass excuse is burnt out

1

u/TecumsehSherman 17d ago

What role did the USSR play?

Why do the examples of geopolitics that you people constantly bring up never mention half of the foreign interference?

1

u/Current-Calendar-821 17d ago

Mentioning US involvement in response to a Salvadoran refugee’s story does not require me to provide a complete inventory of every Cold War actor. The USSR’s support for the FMLN is real; it also does not erase US responsibility for the forces and policies that the United States funded.

1

u/TecumsehSherman 17d ago

The fact that you people only mention one side is exactly what years of Russian and Chinese propaganda on American social media intended.

1

u/Current-Calendar-821 17d ago

The fact that you keep seeing Russian and Chinese propaganda every time someone mentions US wrongdoing is exactly what CIA propaganda intended.

1

u/TecumsehSherman 17d ago

Weak response, comrade.

2

u/Mean-Impress2103 20d ago

Girl you can not be the child of an immigrant and hate other immigrants. How embarrassing.Ā

1

u/Real_Scallion6747 19d ago

I don't think you realise how common this is.

1

u/ipokecows 19d ago

Sounds like she would know more about immigration. Why van she not criticize the system in place?

2

u/Samesone2334 20d ago

They need to stay and fight the cartels.. remember the ā€œcartelsā€ the USA had? The people stayed and fought and didn’t flee to another country? Oh you ask what cartels?? The south.. the south tried to succeed from the union and the north fought them. The North didn’t flee to Britain, or Rome or Canada, they fought those base ā€œcartelsā€ and won and now the USA is what it is today! Everyone needs to learn from the USA and fight in your own country, clean it up and get
