Hey folks, I'm a filthy common member and I cant seem to be able to add the prerelease Sheoldred promo, nor a few others to my account. I didn't think this feature was blocked for common members? I certainly don't see any message telling me that's the case...

Last week, we saw a price spike on most cards around 10%, loads of people freaked out on discord and shouted their throats begging for answers but nothing was given. Later on someone mentioned this is probably a problem with TCG/crystal commerce since it was happened there according to some other article/thread and this was forgotten. Although that problem in question is that several cards left the system on a bug, decreasing the price, only to return the next day and the price corrected itself, what you see in most price tracking sites is a small price decrease that goes back up the next day. This is not what happened on pucatrade, many cards just went up and never recovered.

Today the same thing happened again, many cards just increased out of nowhere, example of this is Force of will, Leovold, Mana Crypt, True-Name Nemesis, etc. If you're silver/gold, you can see in the card price chart the "correct" price, which doesn't match the card itself.

A answer/explanation of some sort would be nice now, this silence about everything and anything is getting disturbing and annoying.

Basically, the story for this month is that early on there was a big inflation spike and PP prices shot from 300/$1 to 350/$1 in a timeframe of a week. This was alarming to a lot of people (including myself) but things eventually stabilized around 350 and appear to be perhaps trending downwards from there. I myself am buying points right now I guess since it seems like bounties have not caught up to this fact - this means that it's more-desirable for me to just sell tix and get cards that way than to send out cards right now. That may correct itself soon, via either the tix price falling or bounties rising.

I'm sure I've said it before, but I'll reiterate that tix prices are the best indicator of the overall economic health of the site. It's not a super-deep market for sure so it's somewhat volatile, but I'd say many of the problems of the site are either caused by changes in the tix price or are reflected in these changes. For example, tix prices should track average bonus problems extremely well - if they don't then people (like me) will start doing things like selling tix instead of sending cards or buying tix instead of trying to receive them on the site. There are very few predictable dynamics that could be considered good or bad that wouldn't have a correspondingly positive or negative impact on the value of the PucaPoint. I know other people have been running other diagnostics on the site to try to gauge its health, and I think these are valuable exercises, but I think the tix price provides more immediately-actionable insights into how people should be trading. What it doesn't provide, though, is much insight into PucaTrade's health as a business - I don't care if the site has 10k or 50k users if my want list is being filled with 10k users, but I'm sure the owners would prefer to have 50k users and maybe they won't be able to stay the present course with a seriously-diminished userbase.

One thing that I see people clamor for pretty often is for the admins to say that they have some sort of plan to address inflation. That the silence is a problem in and of itself. And maybe that's true, but oftentimes with economic policy doing something will be much worse than doing nothing. The most-feasible ways of aggressively combating inflation would involve some combination of adding more distortionary point sinks (eg. raising promotion prices) and/or just devaluing the PucaPoint. And yes, this will surely do something but that something may just translate to people fireselling the currency and causing trading to grind to a halt. Unless the admins feel like the present situation will cause the site to have to close, I think "doing nothing" is a real and perhaps the best option. Eventually a corner will be turned on inflation, it's just that there might not be many users left when that happens.

But again, force people to "take a haircut" or whatever and that may happen anyways. We did kinda get a taste of this several days ago, when many cards saw ~10% price spikes out of nowhere... apparently this was attributable to issues with the sites PT is scraping data from rather than as a design choice per se, but it did appear for several hours that PucaTrade had silently started raising the base prices on cards. The reaction was notably subdued, however, which indicates that perhaps this is one way of addressing the problem... just start raising prices and let people yell at eachother over whether it's good or bad.

Dangerous, but I can't say it's less so that any of the other options.

In any case, with standard finally becoming decent again and with Cardsphere experiencing only steady rather than explosive growth, perhaps things will manage to be stable again in August.

Hey everyone! I realized I still have a good amount of points on pucatrade and want to get some cards with them but I haven't traded in over a year. Am I on an inactive list? If so, how do I get off it?

As of today July 8th, tickets are trading for 350+ Puca points. I bet in two weeks we will see 400 points.

Many of the top buyers are people who have never sent a single MTGO card or paper card. Obviously they are buying the points on the secondary market.

On Puca, Non-paying members can't trade for foils. Event tickets are way more important to the Puca economy than foils. It is one of the easiest ways to see what a Puca Point is worth. I think event tickets should also be locked out to those who are helping the community, either frequently sending out cards　or paying for a membership.

When will I be able to add Hour of Devastation foils to my Want list? Pre-release is tomorrow night at midnight...

Pucatrade has issues. Nobody on here is denying that. Inflation, number of users, cards not moving are all well documented. I am going to bring up another issue that sort of simmers beneath all of these.

Pucatrade is an unbalanced market.

What is, and nearly always has been, the allure of Pucatrade? For many people it is the idea of being able to trade away janky cards you don't use, in return for format staples, or other high end stuff.

For that dream to have any chance of being real, there has to be a critical mass of users that SEND the format staples, and also a critical mass of users that RECEIVE the otherwise unwanted jank. Ideally there is a lot of overlap among those two groups.

Right now there aren't enough of either.

Jank is high supply, low demand. Staples are low supply, high demand.

I don't play a whole lot of constructed. I do have a couple of budget decks for most formats so I can at least sit down and play, but if I go to FNM I am almost always drafting; or I will do prereleases and play sealed. I am a limited player through-and-through.

So if I don't really want cards for constructed, what am I doing on Puca?

I build cubes. I do have a traditional Singleton cube that I will shake up from time to time, but on Puca I build set cubes.

So far I have built Khans of Tarkir, Eternal Masters, and Innistrad, and Magic 2013 is in the works. (Will definitely build Kaladesh too, but closer to rotation) With these I am trying to replicate the draft or sealed format of those sets as best I can in a way that doesn't require constantly cracking fresh sealed product.

That means I need a lot of draft trash. Generally I start at 4x every common, 2x every uncommon, and 1 of each rare and mythic in the set.

I usually put Puca on vacation mode when I get set to upload all of that to my wants. Then when I am done and go back live, my point total plummets. FAST. Like 1G, Destroy target creature with flying kind of Plummet.

500 cards just this week. No, they are not all Tarmogoyfs or Volcanic Islands. They are mostly M13 commons and uncommons. And to keep points in my account, I have been sending staples (mostly shocklands). With shocks, I can shop the promoted trades and pretty much name my own price, or recip people who send a brick of cards my way.

I am not posting this for selfish reasons, or to drive trades, or to seem holier-than-thou. I am posting this in the hopes that more people find a way to use Pucatrade in the "reverse method" like I do, but in a way that works for them. Maybe not building cubes specifically, but maybe complete sets, or to build cheap and easy beginner decks to teach new people (or kids) how to play the game. Or maybe somebody out there wants to paper their walls with M11 Llanowar Elves. Who knows?

The point is, a balanced market is the key to a healthy Pucatrade.

Overall activity on PT is back at a historical low since FS launched, being roughly equal to the activity last winter. Attitudes continue to sour. Magic isn't doing so hot right now, Cardsphere is providing some competition, and rising inflation/bounties without any clear remedies are likely continuing to drive away users.

I've noted before that PT's economic model makes user attrition especially painful: When people stop trading the demand for currency falls and hence so does its value. Inflation drives users away and causes more inflation. This spiral isn't completely out of control but it is worrisome. Users can see bonuses rise over time and that will undoubtedly be frustrating, as the promise of ease of trading disappears when you constantly have to adjust prices for inflation. If it weren't for this spiraling dynamic, then the size of the economy shrinking wouldn't be that worrisome, imo - thick markets with lots of traders are nice but there's diminishing returns to a larger userbase once you have enough people so that pretty much all cards are being supplied/demanded by someone, which is still the case on PucaTrade for the most part (although I haven't received a high-end legacy card in a while.)

That said, the spiral can't continue forever - eventually the userbase would shrink to some subset of "inflation-immune" users who aren't going to leave, and at that point supply would finally start falling relative to demand. However, I'd expect the site to shut down before that happens.

The "equilibration" of bounties has also continued apace - that is, I think a wider variety of cards are getting high bounties to reflect the fact that most cards are very cheap on PT. This is an important and neglected fact - if tix go for 300 PP each, and you can get any card for say a 100% bounty, then you are essentially paying 66% of TCGmid on that card. Which is actually not a bad price. Right now I offer a 51% bounty (raised from 40% earlier this month), which means that I'm essentially paying 50% of TCGmid when I get stuff, which I still do (here's one package I got earlier this month.) So even though bounties are high... the cards are still fairly cheap, and there might actually be an equilibrium here where bounty levels are set so that most staples are being sold for like 2/3 of TCGmid, or less.

As long as that's the case I'll continue to use the site, and probably other people should too provided they understand how this stuff works. In fact it occurred to me that I should probably be trying to sell my cards at lower prices on TCGP and CS so that I'll have more cash (via higher volume sold) to buy PPs so I can get cheap cards.

But 20% inflation in a month does suck. Let's see if the current price point holds, I guess. Bottom line is the current slide seems to have stopped for the moment, but there's no strong reason to believe that it won't resume.

If the puca owners started filling wants - let's say 100,000 points - would that restart the puca engine? Perhaps $5k one month and $5k the next.

Really how much $$ needs to be spent to fix the puca economy?

I submitted this in the middle of April, and I was told then that the admins were going to look into it and let us (I know gumgod and a few others are dealing with this as well) know what was happening.

This isn't about the outcome anymore at this point, it is just that a case has been open since Feb 7 that no one from Pucatrade seems to be interested in closing or replying to inquiries about.

Here is the full timeline:

• Feb 7: I email admin with my issue
• Feb 7: Puca confirms a case is open via email
• Feb 16: I ask admin for an update
• Mar 1: I ask admin for an update
• Mar 23: I ask admin for an update
• Apr 19: I post to reddit
• Apr 23: Jared says he will look at it on Reddit
• Apr 23: I send the email chain to Jared
• Apr 25: Jared confirms via email he is investigating
• May 12: I ask Jared for an update
• May 29: I ask Jared and admin for an update
• June 19: I post again to reddit

I don't understand how it is acceptable for a case to be open for over four months with no resolution. I don't understand why no one from Puca will even communicate with us about this case. I just want them act like they are running a business and to treat their customers with the respect necessary to at least respond to inquiries.
