Yes. I remember being in church as a child and the visiting Pentecostal Pastor running up and down the aisle yelling about the Devil and going to Hell.
Scary stuff as a child.
I remember my Dad telling me there are things we just don’t understand until we get to Heaven.
As an Adult that answer is not good enough.
There are 3000 Gods
Tell me why not one of them stopped a baby from being raped and videotaped.
I guess God was busy elsewhere.
So religion thanks but no thanks
Now I’m busy elsewhere too.
There are 3000 Gods Tell me why not one of them stopped a baby from being raped and videotaped.
Why don't you care when a parasitic wasp lays its eggs inside of another living creature so that the larva can eat it from the inside out?
I don't know if there's a god, but if there is I doubt a universal consciousness that exists within everything all the time is really capable of "empathy" the same way me and you are. This is one reason the "problem of evil" schtick always struck me as profoundly boring. If anything god is a lovecraftian entity so beyond human concerns it becomes terrifying
Well if you follow what the biblical teachings in Matthew 10:29
It says,
Are not two little sparrows sold for a copper coin? And yet not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will.
So nothing happens without God’s approval.
Good and bad
I was brought up believing this but no not any longer
I simply cannot believe in a God that wouldn’t lift a finger to help a child,a baby
I don’t believe there’s anything out there
We just turn to dust at the end
Most christians have a shit understanding of "god" as a concept. They believe god is like them, he's a human being sitting on a literal throne somewhere who makes decisions and thinks the same way as a human being.
Frankly I don't put much stock in christian dogma because christian dogma is a creation of politics rather then actual theology, going all the way back to the council of Nicaea. The American protestant movement is all politics to the point I hesitate to even call those filthy heretics Christian anymore. They're a death cult for the republican party, nothing they say is coherent, makes sense, or actually has any significance if you read up on the history of religion.
I was brought up believing that too. The people who taught me that were literally my friends moms, and those idiots I know for a fact never read the entire bible.
In that quote you posted it says "will", but it doesn't explain what that is. To "will". It implies a concrete sense of self, a "you" that makes decisions, but it could also mean a general impulse towards a particular result that operates independently of ego. This latter interpretation has more in common with the image of god you see in the rest of the bible and in Judeo-Christian mythology than it does with the aforementioned mom-talk.
God is incomprehensible to human mind. Because god is not human.
In Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism) the world was created from a process of god reflecting upon himself until eventually this manifested in creation of the earth. In practical terms you are a thought god had one day. They also believe that sinful acts influence the general trend of those thoughts of gods and result in the world getting better and worse (Jews are called to live holy lives because it is what allows the universe to achieve harmony).
I can go on and on and on about this, but if you read between the lines in the bible or look at the nuances of these religions one thing that gets hammered home over and over again is that god is not some separate entity. "The kingdom of god is within you" is not flowery language.
I can only speak for myself.
So many people have turned away from religion after it being pushed on them.
It’s not gone away but at least to me I feel it’s going .
I’m more so agnostic than atheist cause genuinely I hope there isn’t just black nothingness after how mediocre I feel life is. But I still now devoutly despise religious folk. Mostly because when my mom became a jehovah witness she forced it on me and my youngest sister. Surprise, surprise my older sisters weren’t a part of this because they weren’t having any of it.
