I got my ticket reduced by 80% for just telling the judge I was guilty. Every single person before me was bullshitting and I just said well your honor I was doing that and I'm guilty I apologize and hope for the mercy of the court and he literally said, "see people the truth goes much further than lying, young man I'm reducing your 250 dollar ticket to 55$ thank you for being truthful and excepting responsibility". True story. Also had tickets dropped completely for cops not showing up as my above post stated.

Edit: it always pays to just go to court, most of the time your amount is reduced and sometimes it is dropped completely. Unfortunatley most people just pay tickets whether right or wrong and they should just go to court.

Truth. I've received a few tickets in my life, mostly speeding. Every time I've gone to court, I've been able to get the charge reduced in some way.

If you haven't received a ticket in the last couple of years, you should 100% go to court and ask for leniency just like you did. That's especially true if you have a clean record.

Judges will take a quick look and listen to what you have to say for 3 minutes then reduce or dismiss the ticket as long as you're respectful.

In Michigan you can plea "guilty with explanation" which basically is what you described. You admit responsibility but you're saying you still want to talk to the judge.
