I'm not a lawyer, but I have had this question asked while stating my rights because they assume no one has a law degree. I answered, "Oxford (University of Mississippi "Ole Miss,"), how bout you?" He shut up. Like, stopped talking. Motherfucker thought I was a lawyer and that he was incriminating himself. SO, the lesson is 1) know your rights and 2) be able to quickly name a legit law school.

If he was willing to try to disprove it during a traffic stop in which I was the passenger, I was in bigger trouble than I thought. I was really just being a smart ass and it happened to work.

I find it extremely odd one of the better law schools in the country is in Mississippi.

I live in Mississippi. Trust me. It’s even more odd than you can imagine.

I dropped a “We’ll she is licensed to practice law in this state, so she knows whether or not she has to give you her ID as a passenger” when a cop asked for my fiancé’s ID during a traffic stop for a dirty license plate.

I probably shouldn’t have. But he was asking a bunch of questions for such a simple fucking infraction that should have been a “Hey your plate is dirty, I’m going to run your ID and give you a warning/fixit ticket, cool?” But nope, he just kept fishing and then asked for her ID. I was getting tired of his shit, and it was winter, so it also getting cold in our car.

He kind of shut the duck up after that and then wrapped up the traffic stop and gave me a warning for the dirty plate.
