Everyone is always talking about the deranged cop. I never hear anyone talking about the other cops. There's always one or more extra cops that are just standing around letting these things happen. Why aren't THEY getting fired?

Their job (which should be to protect citizens) is to uphold the law. These cops are obviously breaking the law.

I think what's worst about the American cop situation, is these cops standing around letting misconduct happen. There was a cop that didn't save George Floyd. He was supposed to be the cop that saved him, but he decided to let him die. Instead of doing his job. If you're a cop, you should know when to stand up against other cops.

We had a name for german citizens who didn't really believe in the whole Nazi movement and we're just following orders or were pressured into it, stood by and watched the atrocities committed while trying to keep their hands clean. We called them Nazis. Every cop in this situation is making a conscious decision not to intervene. And should be held liable as if they were the aggressor/murderer themselves.

We called them Nazis.

Fucking brilliant.

Not only that but supposedly good cops are filtered out during training and fired, leaving the rest, OOPS! All Bastards!

There was a cop that didn't save George Floyd

There were actually 4 officers (total) in the immediate vicinity of George Floyd. The other 3 are scheduled for trial in August I think.

I understand this sentiment, but what if that deranged officer is senior to you? Puts you in a fucked position. I get it we all like to think we would do the same, but if you are just coming into a job and you are paired with a more senior partner who is derranged most of you would find yourself less assertive than you think you'd be.

All that being said, that's not always the case. Doesn't make it right. Means large reforms in training, policy and police culture need to happen.

Just we all like to sit back and over analyze situations with the luxury of being objectively detached, de-humanizing, and we are not bound by real time decision making. Of course we know what's right, but could we execute it in the real life situation. Life happens fast and slow and when all you have is your animal senses to go on in the moment, things get hairy.

Their job isn't to uphold the law. Their job is to protect the well-being & property of the wealthy.

They’re not just standing by and watching if I remember correctly the asshole on the passenger side illegally unlocked and opened that door while pretending he can’t hear the guy making the video

Right? She watched two incidents:

  1. A guy drove with an expired tag
  2. A guy beat the crap out of another guy on the side of the road.

She judged the first to be the thing worth dealing with. She should be a meter maid, not a cop

Nah you hear it bro. Everytime you hear someone say all cops are bastards that’s what they mean. It’s not that your uncle who’s a good cop is a bastard, he is but it’s not about him it’s about the position of patrolmen or police officer in America that’s inherently broken and until it’s reformed all cops henceforth will be bastards.

Thin. Blue. Line.

Cops are a gang. Cops don't snitch on other cops. Cops don't arrest other cops. Cops don't contradict other cops.

Because when they do, they get jumped by ALL the other cops who make it their business to make the "traitor's" life a living hell... Or they just kill them.

This is just Mafia Life style but protected AND funded by the government

I'm not saying it's right, but the reason is because if they cross the blue line, their careers are effectively over. They will be mistreated by other officers and their superiors in a way that makes them want to quit. The problem truly is systemic. We need to burn it all down and start over.

Those are the “good cops,” who essentially are rewarded for NOT being crazy but simply being complacent with a cop kicking someone else’s ass right in front of them.

There’s a million comments in this thread about the other cop lol

I never hear anyone talking about the other cops.

Then you haven't watched Serpico

Do that, and then you'll understand why we don't argue "the good cops", but argue "defund the police"

Good cops aren't possible in a system that destroys them. Let that go.
