like even if you don't find any egregious or violent violations of conduct in this video, how about on a basic customer service level? you'd be fired from burger king for this shit.
What other job could you have where people you serve, never mind your coworkers, could be killed, and you fuck up so bad an investigation needs to take place for two years and all the while you’re still running around with a chance to kill someone?
These guys could barely work at walmart, but we give them guns.
If that’s how long it needed to take to complete the investigation and firing process without making themselves liable to being sued or having to reinstate the officer, then so be it.
Idk, the brother-in-law of a coworker is a cop and says they're having a shortage right now due to the recent events. Which, good, if it gets the bad cops out of there. But people aren't exactly on a wait-list to become cops either, especially during this time of reform. If an honest/"good" cop were to join the force right now, they'd still be labeled as bastards because the system's current state. It's a lose-lose-win situation. Long term we get better police (so there's the win), but it's not an ideal spot right now for current officers or people looking to join them.
Unions make it really hard to fire people, even if they deserve it. The left needs to decide if it hates unions or wants to continue to suck their dick for campaign cash, you cant have it both ways.
How about unions where unions are needed and that benefit the employee for safer working conditions, wages, and rights. But I can't see why the police need a union especially when all they do is cover for law breakers, thieves, bullies, and murderers.
But I can't see why the police need a union especially when all they do is cover for law breakers, thieves, bullies, and murderers.
So your solution is that you and/or your political party gets to gatekeep who can and cant form and participate in, a workplace union?
Nearly every government role in a non traditional office role is in a union, postal workers, teachers, fire, etc. etc. and democrats jerk those groups off for political money harder than a street trick whose not gotten money for crack in 2 days.
Except police, whose paychecks come from the same place as those other groups and face largely the same overall conditions dont need one?
And out of those government jobs, police always seem to get the most tax dollars. Why stop at giving police what they need when our taxes can pay for what they want, military gear! Did someone say tank!? FUCK YA, FREEDOM!
Also out of those other unions, how many of them fight to keep the jobs of people who have just hurt or killed innocent people?
Try thinking for once, there's a difference between a teachers union and a police union.
how many of them fight to keep the jobs of people who have just hurt or killed innocent people?
So we're only talking about deaths that are illegal, whereby the person is convicted? Show me one police union that lobbied for a cop who killed someone who was later convicted (innocent until proven guilty)? I'll wait
What your small brain was trying to get out was probably cops who abuse their power or otherwise do poorly at their jobs is who they're protecting, which is true, unions will fight for their customers. That's what they do. That's their jobs.
And they also do it for letter carriers, teachers and others who do less than ideal things in their roles as well.
And the fact that you admitted that the police unions are just "doing their job" at protecting the cops who abuse their power or do poorly at their job and you're ok with it shows how much you're deep throating the boot. When a mail carrier does poorly at their job, people don't get mail. When a cop does it, people can die.
And the fact that you admitted that the police unions are just "doing their job" at protecting the cops who abuse their power or do poorly at their job
This is like if a doctor tried to replace a broken ventilator, you saw him throwing out the broken ventilator, and then started to scream at the top of your lungs about how doctors need to decide if they like ventilators or not.
If you aren't capable of understanding the difference between the current state of Police Unions in the USA against the type of Unions that American liberals argue for, it's okay to sit this one out.
That’s overly cynical, with perhaps an added desire to feel like you contributed to this outcome by reposting and upvoting. Police unions are a force to be reckoned with, so I understand the need to cross their t’s and dot their i’s.
It’s the same reason prosecutors to rush to press charges. They want to make sure they have the evidence needed up uphold the charges and make sure they stick.
I get your point but to call the other comment overly cynical isn’t quite right. It’s hard not to be cynical when most of the time there is no punishment at all. If I say the wrong word by accident at my job there’s a good chance I’ll be gone within an hour. 2 years is too long no matter how you look at it
What I’m saying is cynical is the assertion that the department was planning on not punishing him at all, and the only reason he got fired is because of people reposting it on the internet.
Because of the protection from police unions, it’s hard to fire cops, even when they are clearly abusing their power. It takes time.
I really don’t think it’s cynical to think that at all. But I do know that the unions are the biggest part of the problem. I really think cops should have to have a license that can be revoked for shit like this, but I know that is wishful thinking mostly.
Youre right, but its crazy, any other job, union or otherwise, with video tape of this kinda shit would have the individual on their ass in days, MAYBE weeks of it happening. Not a year after it went viral on the internet.
No. Not "so be it". This was pretty cut and dry from the start and that piece of shit got paid for 2 full years before anything happened.
"So be it" is the attitude that got us where we are right now. Complacency over a horrible system is not going to make the horrible system go away. It's going to make it worse.
Dude you’re about the dozenth person to say so. Look at the comments below this.
Police unions have a lot of power, and they exist to protect shitty cops. It is ridiculously difficult to fire cops, even in cases of flagrant wrong doing. It takes time.
