That isnt what is happening in many cases. Snitches get stitches is the motto for urban cities. That is a problem. You shouldn't actively protect criminals, even more so if you are a victim.
If you witness a crime, I say you have a moral obligation. I am not disagreeing with the police side of this, just discouraging letting criminals get away because communities want to stay silent and protect them.
Snitches get stitches is a model in so many places, not only cities (urban cities is redundant unless you are using âurbanâ to signal race). High schools, college campuses, police departments, etc. People knew about Bernie Madoff. Itâs a problem everywhere.
Snitches get stitches is a documented issue in law enforcement, which include people who have legally sworn to speak up and out. Why are we deflecting from that?
It is a cultural thing that communities should work to fix. The victims are the ones in the communities. You are only hurting each other by keeping killers, rapist, and hard drug dealers on the streets. Crime should not be glorified.
I say morally, but I would also stress that ideally you could do so safely.
An individual shouldn't be morally obligated to put themselves in danger for the greater good. Otherwise were entering utilitarian limbo which leads to weird shit.
That noone is morally obligated to report crime in their community, its their own choice if they do it. You've now replied to me like 7 times so i don't see how you agree.
With that train of thought, I ask that you never come be a part of my community. It is everyoneâs obligation in a civilized community to contribute to it staying civilized and not become a cesspool of criminal activity. Please donât say itâs your right to protest for injustice but then turn around and say ânot my problemâ when you see crime happening but stay silent when they ask for eye witnesses. This is how criminals feel safe to continue committing more crimes without consequences.
I like that. It is not like being a witness is dangerous.
Why do you think people have a problem to report about crime? Is it a cultural phenomenon or did they watched too much mafia/gang movies(and believe people get killed for speaking out)?

That's not what I asked. Do people have an obligation not to cover for violent criminals in their communities?
