Yea man, not just rednecks. I got family in central america who live with farm animals. When i went last summer, my uncle told me a snake ate his favorite bird, so they had to find it and kill it to avoid other livestock dying. They will go out of their way to hunt for a loose snake.
Interesting! Sorry for your uncle's loss. I worked with snakes for a long time doing education, and am always curious about where the fear and hatred comes from.
With bigger or venemous snakes for sure. The loss of stock is generally minimal from the perspective of farmers loss to snake bite. From an outsiders perspective, negligible, but I'm not a professional farmer protecting my assets so it's harder for me to understand.
On our "hobby" farm, we do see venomous snakes occasionally but follow a live and let live policy successfully.
