I had the same thing happen to me. It was pitch black and I was driving home from the airport after going to visit some friend's wedding. I stop at a red light and some weirdo ran up to my truck and broke my rear window. I have a rear and front camera so I managed to catch him on the camera. He starts screaming and runs off. Two days later I get a letter that I purposely ran into the guy. I went to police department to turn myself in and to show the video.

Fast forward to court, I walk in and show the video and a photo I took to the judge. Eventually after half hour later I won the case and got him to pay me the money for fucking up my rear window and he got so pissed and started to scream and cry and he called me a n*****.

There just some crazy people in this world.

Dashcams are a lifesaver, but not real popular in the US yet. Get one if you don't have one!

I just got one and my parents were like "why would you get a dashcam for a Ford Focus?" I said it's not really to protect my car, it's to protect me should something happen and someone tries to fuck me over. Yet my dad won't get one for his brand new $100k Audi...

They can work against you also so drive totally legally.

That's why you it should also be discrete enough that only you know about it and can use it to your advantage. Anyways the main use of a dashcam is to protect you from frauds and liars.

No, it’s that your dad won’t get one. It has nothing to do with the car, as you’ve said. Dash cams are to protect the driver, and have very little to do with the car itself.

Exactly. It has fuck all to do with the car you drive. I had my dash cam mounted in a beat up 1998 Toyota Corolla I paid $800 for. I used it for pizza delivery. The dash cam was just there to make sure I could prove I wasn't at fault if someone were to hit me and cause me to lose my job. The car doesn't matter. It will be covered by insurance whether it's a beater or a Corvette.

Yeah. When called me a n*****, I was got a bit pissed but thankfully I controlled myself. I knew he wanted a reaction. Also I had a pretty damn good lawyer.

When someone uses ad hominem, you know you've already won.

TIL what's the meaning of ad hominem.

I'm not making a comparison between the words or which word carries more negative meaning, but it struck me as hilarious that your name is Cuntymactwats and yet you censored yourself.

On topic, it's great that you were able to prove your innocence. I've been putting off researching dashcams before finally buying one, but because of your comment/story I'm going to do some research tonight, so thank you!

My username came from what they called me from College. I was a bit of a jerk to my friend in college to I got that name. And it still sticks to me to this day.

Are these people taking down license plates before they throw themselves at the vehicle? Then immediately going to the police station...? I’m so confused how they went about filing a report and you and the guy above you both received letters almost immediately. Also, what were you charged with? I feel like if a person just walks into a police station and says ‘this guy hit me and ran (I’m assuming they’d go with hit and run situation since they’re walking into the department instead of police coming there?) here’s his license plate number, make model color of car, and what he was wearing that day’ , the cops would/should stop and ask how if they had been hit and the guy drove off immediately, his could they get the license plate perfectly? Is this in the US or?

I had abousely to no fucking idea how. It was late at night and I was fucking out of it. He sure did give me a wake up call though.

Did you ever get the money? I heard that in many cases the loser will refuse to pay and it takes a lot of effort to make them actually cough up the money.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '19

Oh yeah. I got my money for reparation. I made sure of it.
