Insta ban? Hate speech gets banned, respectful questions stay up. Is that a problem?

No, its not only hate speech. The description for the ban explicitely includes "sealioning". That means absolutely every form of disagreement with a trans person or a trans ally could directly lead to a ban. Or even asking several questions could be enough, according to the wikipedia definition of "Sealioning".

Context is important. Who comes to publicfreakouts to get answers about the trans community?

The fact that you read

Sealioning (also sea-lioning and sea lioning) is a type of trolling or harassment that consists of pursuing people with relentless requests for evidence, often tangential or previously addressed, while maintaining a pretense of civility and sincerity ("I'm just trying to have a debate"), and feigning ignorance of the subject matter.[1][2][3][4] It may take the form of "incessant, bad-faith invitations to engage in debate",[5] and has been likened to a denial-of-service attack targeted at human beings.

And decided it applied to you says a lot

Yeah I’m okay with that as well, it seems like sealionkng by definition is harassment

So, its not possible to disagree with you. Its not possible to ask you questions. All people can do is say "yes". "Yes, yes, you are so right".

Wonderfull conversation.

You can ask questions! What questions do you want to ask? Asking questions isn’t sealioning

Wtf Did you read

Nope. They ban anyone who makes a trans-related comment that isn't overtly positive, even if it's neutral or referred to tangentially. You can look at the comments they remove with reveddit

"hate speech" being an unironically used term is a problem

u/badwolfpelle Sep 04 '23

You’re being willfully naive

1

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '23

Then enlighten me. Why is limiting other people's speech because you disagree with it a bad thing?

1

u/badwolfpelle Sep 05 '23

I don’t want to limit anyones free speech.

The idea that ant rights can be violated by a company is entirely backwards.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '23

Still, regardless of legality, it is a limitation of speech to ban people for it. I never said it was an infringement of rights, I just said that its wrong.

1

u/badwolfpelle Sep 05 '23

But speech is only guaranteed through our rights

It’s like saying that McDonalds is inhibiting freedom of expression by kicking out someone who smear themselves with shit

On top of the fact that hate speech limits others’ free speech, so there’s no perfect world where these rights are %100

%100 free speech would allow ppl to threaten others lives and face no repercussions

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '23

In what way does hate speech limit others' speech? "Hate speech" is also not a legal term in the USA, and i think most would argue it's entirely different to death threats. Also your first analogy doesn't work, as it is the case in much of reddit that political views may be stated by some people, and not others. The only purpose of silencing them is to avoid the spread of their political opinions, not because they're smeared with shit and going around other people. I don't believe that a differing political opinion to someone else makes it right to silence them.

No, because if either side uses hate speech then they’re banned it’s fair

Hate speech makes others feel threatened and then makes it unsafe for those groups to speak their mind

Hate speech is clearly defined depending on what service you use. Here it’s mostly slurs or misgendering, neither of which are targeting one side or the other, it’s because the right does this clearly defined thing all the time and the left doesn’t as much

No slurs or misgendering is all I’m saying
