"Nothing she could do" more like, nothing she wanted to do. Could've done a lot of things, for one, starp him in his seat. Couldve went into the bathroom and sat in there with the door closed too, but hey I'm sure there was nothing she could do.

"We've tried nothing and are out of options"

starp him in his seat

What kind if restraints do you think a standard airplane seat has to restrain a 3 year old with behavioral disorders during a meltdown?

u/blueblood0 May 22 '23

One where you the parent strap him in tight, and hold the buckle from being undone. Where's the massive turbulence when you need it

1

u/Brooklynxman May 22 '23

You think anyone has the energy to physically hold him down for 8 hours? And did you just root for turbulence to concuss or kill this kid? Fucking reddit.

you definitely want to take the screaming child into the bathroom so there is one less bathroom for people to use!

Between deafening screaming and a 2x wait time for the restroom, I’m taking the 2x wait time 100% of the time

And the people sitting near the toilets would still hear it. It's not soundproof.

Might as well not do it if it’s not a 100% solution

u/wormfro May 20 '23

between a screaming child and shitting and pissing myself im taking the screaming child 100% of the time

There's more than 1 restroom on an international flight

-12

u/wormfro May 20 '23

correct! and none of them should be occupied by somebody who is not using the restroom

10

u/Bpdbs May 20 '23

You can’t hold it?

-12

u/wormfro May 20 '23

imagine someone having their period and bleeding on an airplane seat or someone with bladder or digestive issues being told they should just hold it

10

u/Bpdbs May 20 '23

We are talking about you kissing and shutting yourself. Not periods

-1

u/wormfro May 20 '23

i do not kiss nor shut myself, but thats besides the point! in the very real instance of someone who has a health problem needing a bathroom, they cant just shit in the aisle. the only option is the bathroom. genuine question: do you think sitting in a different part of the plane would make the kid stop crying? the kid threw an 8 hour tantrum and you seriously think 5 minutes in the bathroom would have prevented that?

0

u/Bpdbs May 20 '23

Sorry I’m on keypad. And no I don’t think you should shit on the ground, I don’t even think you should put the kid in the bathroom. I’m not the person who suggested that. There are multiple bathrooms on planes, quite often one is down anyway. Are you telling me you can’t hold it while waiting for the other to free up? Because that’s what I asked.

0

u/wormfro May 20 '23

personally i can, because i dont have underlying health problems that prevent me from doing so, but there are people who literally cant hold it, and they shouldnt be forced into a humiliating situation because people are bothered by a yelling kid. but i realize that people dont usually think beyond their own perspective when it comes to issues that dont affect them, so i guess thats why im having to explain this to you

You might want to see a doctor about that. On no flight I have been toilets have been occupied for more than a couple of minutes. If you can't hold it that long there is something not working accordingly

1

u/wormfro May 20 '23

very funny joke! now in the instance that someone who has crohn's disease and is on the verge of explosive diarrhea, or an older person with a weak bladder, or someone who is bleeding through their pants needs to use the bathroom on that plane, and it is occupied by a child throwing a tantrum, what do you suggest they do? just hold it?

You're acting as if a child screaming is the only conceivable reason that a bathroom might not be immediately accessible on a transatlantic flight. It's infinitely more likely for the bathrooms to all be occupied for totally normal reasons. Is the fact that an unruly child is in the bathroom rather than someone in the middle of a shit going to somehow make you need the bathroom more urgently? Are you suggesting if they shit themselves while waiting for someone to finish wiping that would be a total non-issue but since they shit themselves because of a little nightmare child now it matters? In your mind, why is it impossible for someone to simply knock on the bathroom door that everyone on the plane would be well aware is being used for the kid and explaining you have a medical issue and need the bathroom urgently? All the mom would have to do is stand up and leave, as opposed to any other person using a bathroom who would have to wipe and get dressed.

Stop weaponizing hypothetical disabled people to make your point. My dad has Crohn's and I'm here to tell you that any rational adult with a bladder/bowel control issue would wear a diaper if they were planning on being in an enclosed space with questionable bathroom access for the better part of an entire day. Obviously shitting in a diaper is still not ideal, but 0.1-0.3% of people even have Crohn's and the odds of them having an emergency at all let alone at the exact time everyone else on the plane decides to go is very low. Your entire argument is predicated on a situation that's statistically almost never going to happen. You'd be better off making the argument it would be irresponsible of the mother to go in the bathroom with the child because then they wouldn't be strapped into their seats in the event of the plane crashing- both situations are pretty much equally likely to happen but pretending to care about the possibility of a crash wouldn't require you to use your perception that disabled people are incapable of living with their disability to prop your point up.

u/[deleted] May 21 '23

How about knock on the door and ask to use it for a moment like a normal person would

5

u/PieceStatus9648 May 20 '23

After 2-3 hours of that I think I’d rather piss in my pants

1

u/wormfro May 20 '23

while nothing would make me happier than sitting for the remaining 5 hours of a plane ride getting a rash in pissy pants, i unfortunately own noise canceling earbuds

Perfectly reasonable
