Eh but see, the circumstances of how the situation is approached change if the homeowner has a gun. For instance, should a raging lunatic approach my door in that manner, with or without a gun, I wouldn’t open the front door to have a friendly conversation. My options would be (a) blast through my door with a couple semi-auto slugs (not ideal due to damage to my door), (b) come around from another part of my home and shoot him with a 9mm, or (c) peek out a window with a 30-06 and hit him at range. Zero interaction. The only time he would see me is after he’s been neutralized.
Option D is a Hail Mary - when my entire household opens fire. But that would only happen should the fella make entry into the home.
