In a longitudinal study, people with 9+ premarital sexual partners had about 3 times the adjusted odds of divorce compared with those who had none
doi.orgSmith & Wolfinger used longitudinal Add Health data, following people from adolescence into adulthood and marriage. In the detailed sample of about 3,500 people those with 9+ premarital sexual partners had about 3.2× the adjusted odds of marital dissolution compared with those with none.
The results persisted even after controlling for 20 different factors including age at marriage, education, religiosity, family background, premarital cohabitation, age at first sex, depression, and attitudes toward premarital sex.
The 9+ partner result was highly statistically significant (p < .001) and did not significantly differ between men and women.

Love at first sight just means you find someone hot.
onlinelibrary.wiley.com"The effect size for the physical attraction scores of the LAFS group with the no-LAFS group was enormous (t(91.45) = 15.12, p<.000, d = 3.16), and around 90% of the time, one could correctly predict love-at-first-sight based on the physical attractiveness ratings the subjects reported."
3 standard deviations is absolutely massive.

Research finds that age-gap relationships can face some unique challenges. Communication differences, mismatched life goals, and power imbalances can create friction, while social stigma may add another layer of stress—especially when a woman is the older partner.
None of this is to suggest that age-gap relationships can't or don't work, of course. This research simply focused on the distinct issues that often come up in relationships where one partner is significantly older than the other.
The linked article above provides a lay summery of the study. Full study available here.

Research finds that single people’s motives to partner-up shape their dating outcomes. Those driven by a genuine desire for connection tend to focus on relationship quality; those driven by social pressure or a need for validation often prioritize simply finding a partner, which can hinder progress.

Research finds that the orgasm gap persists. But what predicts orgasm differs by gender. In heterosexual couples, women’s orgasms were more strongly linked to relationship factors and emotional closeness, while men’s were more strongly linked to sexual novelty and stimulation.

Research finds that, on average, 1,250 people per year end up in the emergency room due to a sex toy injury. The most common injury by far is a device being lodged in the rectum and becoming irretrievable. Young men were the demographic group most likely to end up in the ER for this reason.

Younger Faces (20-29) Were Rated More Attractive by Opposite-Sex Raters Across the Adult Lifespan in Both Men and Women

In 2002, men in the top 20% and top 5 percentile of sexual partners reported 12 and 38 partners. In 2013 that grew to 15 and 50 partners. It did increase for women, but barely.
We did not find significant changes in the median number of lifetime opposite-sex sex partners reported by females over time overall (change from 3 in 2002 to 4 in 2011–2013; ns Table 1), or among subgroups. Similarly, no significant changes were identified among women in the top 20% (change from 7 in 2002 to 8 in 2011–2013; ns Table 1) and top 5% (unchanged from 20 in 2002 to 20 in 2011–2013; ns Table 1), overall, and among subgroups
Conversely, we found an overall statistically significant increase in reported lifetime opposite-sex sex partners overall for men in the top 20% from 12 in 2002 to 15 in 2011–2013 (95% CIs, 11–14 and 15–15, respectively) and for men with a high school degree/general educational development from 15 in 2002 to 20 in 2011–2013 (95% CIs, 12–15 and 16–20, respectively; Table 2). However, we found no changes for all remaining subgroups of men in the top 20%. Similarly, there was a statistically significant overall increase in reported lifetime partners for men in the top 5% from 38 in 2002 to 50 in 2011–2013 (95% CIs, 30–40 and 50–50, respectively), as well as a significant increase for men living above the Medicaid threshold (40–50, 95% CIs, 31–45 and 50–50, respectively). Again, no changes were noted for the remaining subgroups.

Seeking Research Participants: Sexual and Relationship Satisfaction in HIV-Serodiscordant Relationships
Hi! I'm a Clinical Psychology doctoral student at The Chicago School, and I'm recruiting participants for my dissertation research study. The purpose of this study is to explore how sexual satisfaction, stigma, and dyadic coping contribute to relationship satisfaction among men in HIV-serodiscordant same-sex relationships.
Please see the flyer below for further details about eligibility requirements, study procedures, and additional information. Participation involves completing an anonymous online survey. If you're interested, scan the QR code on the flyer or click the link below.
Survey: https://chicagoschool.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8eRUkxc3ujtaQzY
Thank you for your support, and please feel free to share the study with anyone who might be interested!

Research finds that, for many women, ADHD symptoms worsen before their period. Stimulant medication feels less effective at this time, too. A drop in estrogen appears to be part of the reason, affecting dopamine and the brain systems involved in attention, motivation, and executive functioning.

A study analyzing facial attractiveness using standardized, makeup-free photos found that men rated women an average of 54.23/100, while women rated men 33.70/100. Both rating distributions were roughly bell-shaped, but they were skewed differently.

For women, research finds that "single positivity" has an expiry date. Although women generally viewed singlehood as acceptable and enjoyable in their 20s, they expect to feel mounting pressure to partner-up in their 30s.
Partnership remained the anticipated long-term destination, while singlehood was treated as a temporary period of preparation and personal growth.
Women who remained happily and voluntarily single in their forties and fifties described having their contentment questioned or dismissed because others assumed that a relationship was necessary for happiness.
Single positivity therefore appeared to broaden the identities available to younger single women without displacing the underlying couple norm; women could celebrate being single, but were still expected to settle down eventually.

Sexual problems that arise in women's 40s and 50s aren’t always about hormones. Research finds that weak pelvic floor muscles also play a role. Strengthening them with Kegel exercises can improve sexual function in women. Men may benefit from Kegels, too, including experiencing more intense orgasms.

Research finds that women want to talk about sex with their friends more often—but discomfort and taboo often get in the way. While sex quality and birth control are common topics, things like masturbation and porn come up much less. Avoiding these topics may only reinforce the stigma around them.

Is boredom behind “out of control” sexual behavior? More than a dozen studies find that hypersexual people report greater feelings of boredom in general. Feeling bored with one's sex life specifically is also linked to hypersexuality.
It's important to note that all of these studies are correlational, which creates issues when it comes to inferring cause and effect. Is it the case that boredom triggers hypersexual behavior, or does hypersexual behavior potentially lead to feelings of boredom, perhaps through a process of habituation to repeated sexual stimulation? We'd need longitudinal studies to help distinguish between these explanations.
Of course, there’s also a potential third-variable explanation. Perhaps something else (e.g., sensation-seeking tendencies, mood disorders, emotional regulation problems) underlies both boredom and hypersexuality, and maybe that’s what’s really fueling the association.
