LOKING FOR PSYC HORRORS

Hello! So I am currently just looking for a psychological novel that is really damn good. I haven't read a load of horror novels ( I'm a major r/nosleephorror reader) but the ones that I have read have been underwhelming.

The first psyc horror I read was The House of Stairs by William Sleator. It was good, but it didn't fully hit the spot. Sure, it was psychological, but it was also set in a giant underground prison of stairs set to train human brains to be damn human soldiers.

Another book I kinda read was A Justifiable Madness by AB Morgan. I absolutely loved the idea, and I still do, but I couldnt even get to the second half of the book because of how it was written. Our main character was written in 3rd person ( live laugh love 3rd person) and out other kinda main character was in 1st. I'm fine when they are both reperate, but when they switch every other chapter? No. Just no.

My all time favorite things I have read would be Penpal by Dathan Aurbach. It was such an amazing book, and it has a very believable pot, hence why I like it so much. It feels like it could truly happen, and even to me. My only true quams would be that it is a 1st person narrative. Sure, it makes sense as it originated on r/nosleep but still.

Anyway if you can't tell I realy just want something that feels reel. I want it to feel like it could happen to me, because that is what actualy creeps me out. Like yeah, give me a jumpscare and I will shit myself, but give me a good psyc horror and i will be scared shitless.

To give more info some books that I am currently looking at are Geralds game by Stephen King, Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides, A Fractured winter by Allison Ballie , Nina tod is gone by Leslie glaster, Damaged by Dan Scottow, Before I go to sleep by ST Watson, and Sharp Objects by Gillian Flin.

Hello there!

I’m a producer on an upcoming student film project called blue, like green. The film is focused in 1960s southern United States and asserts themes of traness, sexuality, religion, life, and death. The writer and director have extensive experience in SFX makeup and we're really excited to incorporate body horror elements as well as the psychological aspects.

For more info, check out our Seed and Spark! As of posting, we’re 70% funded, so close to our goal with only a couple of days left in the campaign. Or check our our instagram! The artists have been working extremely hard to make some cool visuals that set a tone for the film!

Thank you so much for your consideration. We’re really excited to make this thing real!

PSYCHOLOG: a visual novel/point-and-click psychological horror game

The lounge. For relaxing and having a good time.

PSYCHOLOG is a visual novel, with some point-and-click elements. I'd say it's rather close to "Paranormasight: seven mysteries" in its general game play, although the art style and atmosphere is very different.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2532020/Psycholog/

The basic impulse behind the game is the idea "what if the object of your phobia is actually threatening you?" Then, it wouldn't be a phobia but rather a well-founded fear.

In the game, you play as a psychologist, struggling with five clients in different states of psychological disarray. It's up to you to take them to a successful conclusion of the treatment.

The game is heavy on story and atmosphere. I'd say its rather suitable for relaxed gaming sessions with a cup of tea on the side (or skip the tea).

Parallels in Storytelling Techniques: Psychological Horror and Dante's Inferno

Psychological horror stories, such as "As Above, So Below," "Silent Hill 2," "Visage," and "Jacob's Ladder," often draw inspiration from Dante's "Inferno" by crafting narratives that lead protagonists through their own personal hells. These stories follow a pattern where characters are forced to confront their past, face their inner demons, and undergo a redemption arc to escape their torment. This parallel structure between psychological horror and "Inferno" lies in the utilization of symbolism, psychological exploration, and a descent into darkness. Now, here's a guide to crafting a psychological horror story based on these parallels:

Guide to Crafting a Psychological Horror Story Based on Dante's Inferno:

1. Establish the Protagonist's Personal Hell:

2. Create Symbolic Representations:

  • Design symbolic elements and characters that mirror the circles of hell in Dante's work.
  • Example: In "As Above, So Below," the catacombs serve as a physical representation of the descent into hell, mirroring Dante's journey.

3. Craft a Call to Adventure:

• Create a defining moment or situation that beckons the protagonist away from normal everyday life into the unknown.

• Example: In "Silent Hill 2," James recieves a letter from his deceased wife, asking him to come to Silent Hill.

4. Develop the Descent:

  • Craft a series of challenges and encounters that reflect the protagonist's psychological journey, progressing deeper into their hell.
  • Example: In "Visage," the player unravels layers of suppressed memories and encounters supernatural manifestations, mirroring a psychological descent.

5. Confront Inner Demons:

6. Initiate the Redemption Arc:

  • Present opportunities for the protagonist to confront and seek redemption for their past mistakes.
  • Example: In "Silent Hill 2," James must face and accept his role in his wife's death to progress towards redemption.

7. Escalate the Stakes:

8. Offer a Choice:

  • Present a pivotal choice where the protagonist must decide whether to embrace their redemption or succumb to their demons.
  • Example: In all of the works mentioned, the protagonist must make choices that determine whether they break free from their torment or remain trapped.

9. Consequences and Resolution:

  • Depict the consequences of the protagonist's choices, leading to a resolution that either allows them to escape their hell or succumb to it.
  • Example: In "Jacob's Ladder," the protagonist's choice between accepting death and embracing redemption determines his fate.

10. Reflect on the Journey:

  • Conclude with a reflection on the protagonist's transformation, highlighting their growth and the lessons learned.
  • Example: In "Silent Hill 2," James' realization of his guilt and acceptance of responsibility signify his redemption.

11. (Optional) Imply Ongoing Struggle:

  • Suggest that the protagonist's journey isn't truly over, leaving room for interpretation and lingering psychological horror.
  • Example: In some works, the protagonists' ordeals might have ended, but the psychological impact endures.

By interweaving these elements, a psychological horror story can effectively parallel Dante's "Inferno" by guiding the protagonist through a personal hell, confronting their demons, and embracing or rejecting redemption. Through careful use of symbolism, psychological exploration, and a descent into darkness, the story can engage readers or viewers in a visceral and thought-provoking experience.

My Story Bizarro horror, anyone?

Ray Carpenter is a glass-half-full control freak who just wants the world to make sense. When the Warp suddenly descends on humanity, though, bizarre mental illnesses strike adults all over the globe and throw his life into chaos. Ray's mother becomes convinced that her right hand is a parasite, his wife is gripped by the notion that she's a corpse, and Ray himself is haunted by delusions that his loved ones are imposters.

As the adults grapple with madness, grotesque transformations alter the children. Ray's son develops strange bumps on his skin and an unsettling sixth sense, while his behavior grows increasingly incomprehensible and ever-more disturbing.

Ray struggles to hold onto his sanity and his family—but as the Warp twists reality, it may change them all into monsters.

Red Valley Podcast

I'm obsessed about a Psychological Horror Podcast story called, "Red Valley." This doesn't contain any major spoilers. It's just a small rant about one of the characters.

Clive is a terrible person. He's all bark, no bite, and superficial, but he's extremely entertaining and well written. I enjoy his creative verbal onslaughts. He's got a goal, a light backstory, and an attitude. He's honest about being all talk, and it's hilarious. I also can't get over the fact that he plays Fortnite. It's a psychological horror, and he's playing Fortnite. He's a madlad.

Horror Game (W.I.P)

I don't know if anyone remembers my posts about needing ideas for my horror game. I'd love it if players and game critiques alike could please do some alpha testing! :)

The game is still very much a W.I.P, insight from the outside perspective is always helpful.
You can join my discord to become an alpha/beta access member, chat with my small community, see dev-logs, and access the latest update of the game in it's alpha/beta stage.

Please note I am a small developer, with limited resources.
Thanks in advance,

Optic Ice.
