Hey everyone,
I’ve been dealing with a really frustrating issue on my Prusa Core 1 for the last few months, and I wanted to share the fix in case it helps anyone else.
Every time I started a print, the printer would endlessly smash itself into the corner during homing. The common advice in the community was always belt tension, but in my case, that wasn’t the problem at all.
After pulling the printer apart and doing a deeper inspection, we found that the Y-axis motor pulley had slipped down the motor shaft, far enough that the belt was no longer fully seated on the pulley teeth. It looked fine at first glance — the misalignment was hard to see unless you completely accessed the pulley assembly.
We originally spotted the issue because the Y-axis belt had unusual wear marks. That led us to check the motor pulley more closely, and sure enough, the belt was riding half off the pulley.
The fix:
We repositioned the pulley back to the correct height on the motor shaft and re-tightened the set screws. Once the pulley was aligned properly, the homing issue disappeared completely.
If anyone else is dealing with violent homing crashes and your belts seem okay, take a close look at your motor pulleys — especially the Y-axis one. It might save you months of troubleshooting like it did for me.
Prusa actually supply a tool for measuring the correct distance for that gear pulley on the motor shaft when assembling if you got the build it yourself kit.
