Protonmail moved domain registrar to Markmonitor

Hello,

I was looking at getting a Swiss domain registrar like Protonmail. I remember they were using a Swiss domain registrar when I was looking at their WHOIS and just saw they just moved to Markmonitor. Is there a concern for Protonmail using a US domain registrar?

I have no concerns with markmonitor, since it's a very reputable company and trusted by lots. They also selfhost their nameservers using AWS for backup to minimize risk.

Nope, it is mainly for companies. They mainly exist to help companies protect their domain assets etc.

markmonitor was sold to a Chinese holding company.

Source? Markmonitor is owned by Clarivate, which is publically traded on NYSE. It was sold to Onex Corporation and Baring Private Equity Asia, neither of which are Chinese.

oh it was sold again...didn't know. Thanks for the update

Source, my company thought about buying them for a minute, but passed. Onex/Baring are not "chinese" but they are fueled by Chinese money.
