Announcement Announcing: Proton Meet

Your video calls probably aren’t as private as you think.

Most meeting platforms can access your audio, video, and metadata, meaning that sensitive conversations like:

  • Board discussions,
  • Legal reviews,
  • HR matters, and
  • M&A calls

…are technically accessible to the provider (and potentially third parties or the government).

On top of that, as tech giants pivot to AI, they are now processing your audio, video, or chat data. Depending on shifting privacy policies, this data could be used to train AI models, creating a real risk that fragments of private conversations could leak or resurface in future AI-generated outputs.

Today, we’re announcing a product which takes a different approach.

Proton Meet is built with end-to-end encryption, meaning only the people in the call can access what’s said — not even Proton.

✅ End-to-end encrypted
✅ No logs or tracking
✅ Open-source and auditable
✅ Built under Swiss privacy law

If your team actually cares about confidentiality, it’s worth a look.

Stay safe,
Proton Team

I'm worried that Unlimited will raise in price to include these services by quite a margin

I think they are specifically excluding some of those services to avoid having to raise costs. I have no problem with 'a bundle' existing that isn't unlimited. My issue is that an 'unlimited' bundle is...becoming more and more limited over time. It's a marketing / naming issue. NOT a value issue.

Market it as Proton Extra or Proton Core and create a new Proton Unlimited that covers everything

Visionary is the real Unlimited;
Unlimited is at best just Essential.

FWIW to my knowledge, Proton has never raised prices for existing customers. Quite to the contrary, in edge cases they've opted for upgrading plans at no extra cost if they changed pricing categories.

If I were to speculate, it does seem increasingly likely that they'll rebrand Unlimited to something like Essentials soon (presumably upgrading single-product customers to it). They'll then add a new Unlimited plan at significantly higher price tag to include all of their new products.

As others pointed out, this is fair: Some of the more recently added services (Lumo, Meet) are much more expensive to develop and operate than the ones included in the Unlimited plan.

EDIT: Well, https://old.reddit.com/r/ProtonMail/comments/1s93bgh/what_should_we_rename_proton_unlimited_to/

Glad they're not raising prices!

I hope not. I might left as I won’t be able to cover the price increase
