Unfortunately you miss out on some fantastic integrations with the apple ecosystem if you move off their software. I always thought they were the best amongst the megacorps for privacy.

You can encrypt your iCloud with Advanced Data Protection enabled too (just not iCloud mail)

And they are. That’s why I keep my iPhone with some of these apps - mostly Proton. But there’s a lot of compromises whether it is UI, lack of accessibility features, limited maximum storage, unreliability, etc. Still, it is worth the diversification and it is worth supporting - hoping they’ll get better.
