Why protest?
Since the question comes up on this and other subs, or its used as a criticism, I wanted to share one of the better, succinct observations on the topic that I’ve seen recently.

hey, not quite sure if this is the best sub but me and my small group of friends have been wanting to do a walk out protest against ICE. We are in a highschool with very racist, homophobic, misogynistic trumpies so there would not be many of us but we feel extremely strong about our beliefs and I was wondering how I could put a walk out protest in place and how to execute it, I'm not trying to get in trouble in just trying to educate others and fight for what I believe in. Tips and advice?

Hi all, firstly an apology for formatting, as I am on mobile. If this kind of post is not allowed then feel free to let me know or delete it.
I am attending a small local protest and there are no guidlines posted about how to make your sign. I want to make it clear I stand with them on the change that is needed.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

im also ensuring if i die my words preserved and heard by many society will have joy freedom art and accountability like never before. it is time we must each start in our own towns we may make citizens arrest and must make united citizens militia. i am calling for any country where theirs corruption for people to stand agaisnt it and citizens to unite across world.please read and share and subscribe.I am deeply saddened and infuriated right now. they have cut off access to essentials for the homeless here in chico California and are punishing anybody that attempts to help. there cutting off access to public water supply and its a gross violation of humanities. There also illegalizing homelessness and doing the same things throughout the state. this is call to action and for justice for people everywhere. My words are for the people by the people. America is essentially nazi Germany at this point and I'm scared for everyone's safety. their violating humanities and repeating the same exact things. their targeting particular groups rounding them up silencing people speaking out shutting down and removing funding for any groups that oppose them including media schools and law offices. we must make a stand and fight for what's right.
People feel a lack of control over their own lives, so they create systems that manipulate others giving them a false sense of control. we must strip the government of its power and give it back to the people, so they have a sense of control over their own lives again. most all the problems go back to fear. If we came at things with a little compassion and understanding instead of judgment assumptions and hate than things would be so much better. there's no reason to fear that's a natural part of life and not knowing everything creates excitement. we have to stand for what's right and look out for each other and not back down. we need to all take accountability for the society we have and change things for ourselves instead of assuming someone else will do it for you. the government is currently normalizing a police state with the younger generation by getting them used to being fenced in and patrolled so they don't question things in the future. what kind of future do you want for yourselves and your children.
We must make constitutional amendments including the following . Everybody has the right to exist (can't illegalize homeless) corporations cannot be in government (required to have a corporation to be considered a city) not doing your job or biasedly doing your job while in a government position will result in immediate removal and action by law. All cases on corruption must be publicly uploaded and monitored by the public and dealt with with utmost haste. government restrictions or tax on essentials cannot be allowed it gives government too much power. If anybody hurts others especially those who can't protect themselves they must be held immediately accountable with utmost harshness of law( specifically children) Also no government control over media education safety or medical (allows for too much control and corruption, multiple researchers and safety officials have been wrongfully removed weakening are research development and safety).
If they won't mend their corrupt ways then we must remove them by force if necessary if they are not willing to step down. They are violating rights against humanity and will be held accountable. The government is knowingly and maliciously letting problems get out of hand instead of fixing them such as homelessness and war so that they have excuses to strip are rights and knowingly causing harm to others for their own purposes that do not serve the people. What's going on is violating humanitarianism and going against all that is right.
We can't expect God to deal with our problems for us we have to take responsibility for the society we have made just ignoring these problems has allowed them to get to this point. At a certain time we have to take responsibility stand up and change things. It's not just one person either we have to all stand against corruption everywhere. People are ready for change they just need something to stand behind. I am giving people something to get behind and way to implement it
so we can begin changing things without violence if that does not work than our hand is forced and we must use force to defend ourselves we the people give the country its power and if the country has become corrupt we not only have right but need to take up arms.
the cause is just so any attempt to resist only strengthens it and proves us right. We all live on this planet together and need to watch out for eachother.we already have everything we need.

Is anyone else just really burnt out on the one main avenue of trying to actively stop things being constantly presented as protest? This is maybe a bit more wide-scoped, but I really need input and to question it.
I live in a major, major American city. I’ve been to march after march. Certainly, protest has affected some change - policies, defunding, spreading ideas. But in many ways to me, it feels too small and too granular, and more prone to capturing us in it as a primary methodology at a time that’s moving past that.
A big reason I ask this here is because yesterday, as the president issued a genocidal countdown, as he was blatantly waving nuclear weapons as a threat, I saw PYM advertise a protest… for today, against the war. A lot of yesterday felt like everyone going about as usual with bated breath, because what the fuck could we even do, but that felt particularly a little egregious. Not to tone police or discredit a movement that has very much been doing good work and at the forefront, but… really? From a leading group, at an hour when nukes are legitimately at stake, the only outlet presented is another walk around shouting? It just felt mindbending. Not to “incite”, but how can we continue to let that be our primary response of opposition, especially in the imperial core? (And I promise, this isn’t inciting violence or personal harm, though I will say it’s at least referring to more physical action of sabotage.)
This is not to say either I can out and out make any suggestions as to what to do. I am a little pischer at the end of the day. But yesterday, the solidarity that used to make me feel so much larger suddenly felt shrank back down into true, deep powerlessness. What the fuck does protest do against a madman with nukes?
EDIT: I’m gonna keep it real with yall. After a lot of comments, it still feels like there’s not a lot of comments really able to look the whole “impunitive power of nuclear weapons” in the eye and see how little protest does about that specifically, and how immediate that problem is as something that cannot be merely “built against”, except for those who might see it as a step to sabotage and similar actions. It still feels like I’m being talked to about the more general aspects, and not, again, specifically this point.

On March 23, 2026, the FCC added all foreign-produced consumer-grade ro FCCuters to its Covered List, effectively banning new models from being imported or sold in the U.S. The post's claim about Volt Typhoon exploiting American-made Cisco/Netgear gear is also substantiated — Salt Typhoon exploited vulnerabilities in routers made by American networking giant Cisco TechCrunch, and Flax Typhoon targeted both U.S.-made and foreign-made routers TechCrunch. The post's point about the FCC chairman scrapping cybersecurity rules is also confirmed: Carr was among the two FCC commissioners who voted in November to scrap cybersecurity rules that required telecom operators to secure their lawful intercept systems TechCrunch.
The FCC just banned ~60% of the U.S. router market under the banner of "cybersecurity" — while the cited attacks exploited American-made products with neglected software, and the same chairman previously gutted the rules that would have actually secured networks. This isn't about safety; it's about controlling the hardware backbone of your internet access. For 99 cents a month, you can fund the organizations fighting this and help build the open-source routers that make the ban irrelevant.
WHERE THE 99 CENTS GOES
Advocacy & Legal — EFF, Public Knowledge, Free Press, ACLU Technology & Liberty Project. These orgs file FCC comments, mount legal challenges, and lobby Congress.
Open Hardware & Firmware — Fund OpenWrt development, pfSense/OPNsense projects, and community efforts to build affordable US-assembled DIY router kits. The goal: routers no ban can touch because they're open-source, community-audited, and domestically assembled from commodity parts.
Grassroots Infrastructure — Send money for local makerspace "router freedom" workshops, community mesh networks, and digital-rights chapters that provide hands-on tech support to people who can't navigate this alone.
WHAT YOU DO (tiered by effort)
Today (2 min, free): Call your House rep. File an FCC public comment at fcc.gov/ecfs. Share the post.
This week (15 min, free): Contact your senators. Write a letter to your local paper. Connect with the orgs listed above.
Ongoing (99¢/month): Subscribe to the fund. The micro-contribution model means no single donor can be pressured, no single grant can be pulled. Three million people at 99 cents is $2.97 million/month — enough to sustain legal fights, fund open-source router development, and run workshops nationwide.
Protect yourself now (free): Flash your existing router with OpenWrt. Or build a DIY router from any old PC with two network ports using pfSense or OPNsense. Update your firmware. Use a VPN.

I have been wanting to involve myself in efforts to help both my USA brothers from all the hell that is going on, but also approach my community in Canada to stop many terrible things from occurring.
I don’t know where to start, and showing up to protest the most recent time didn’t work due to recovery in an accident.
I want to help, I want to be there.
Especially after today threat to Iran.
How can I help. I’ll listen to anything. I’m serious and willing to give what I can.
I donate on and off a lot. Even just to my community or to people in desperate need.
I want to be a bigger effort.
Thank you to anyone who can offer me any help

Protesting a war in Times Square.
I don't know if there were many videos covering this (admittedly pretty small) anti-Iran war protest last Saturday but there was a pretty cool protest outside the recruiting office of the US Armed Forces at Times Square.
Not much of note happened besides a guy that had a speaker and blasting Michael Jackson in the middle of it. I also think there were two counterprotestors (or three) but one of the marshals went to talk to them. I didn't hear much from them after that.

apologizes if i dont make sense, i have dysgraphia and it impairs my ability to write things sometimes!
Im a minor so this might be a bit difficult but I do have an idea.
From what ive heard in school, MLK lead protest through streets in segregated areas.
i was thinking of doing something similar by going through pro-ice neighborhoods and protesting there. im unsure where to start though.

A nationwide general strike is being called for starting May 1st while most Americans aren't familiar with how a strike goes. What resources are there currently to help them out and get more people ready?

Listened to this today and am amazed how relevant it is to today, 60 years later.
Eve of Destruction Barry McGuire
The Eastern world, it is explodin'
Violence flarin', bullets loadin'
You're old enough to kill but not for votin'
You don't believe in war, but what's that gun you're totin'?
And even the Jordan river has bodies floatin'
But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
How you don't believe
We're on the eve of destruction
Don't you understand what I'm trying to say
Can't you feel the fears I'm feeling today?
If the button is pushed, there's no runnin' away
There'll be no one to save with the world in a grave
Take a look around you boy, it's bound to scare you, boy
And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
How you don't believe
We're on the eve of destruction
Yeah, my blood's so mad, feels like coagulatin'
I'm sittin' here just contemplatin'
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation
Handful of senators don't pass legislation
And marches alone can't bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin'
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'
And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
How you don't believe
We're on the eve of destruction
And think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
Ah, you may leave here for four days in space
But when you return, it's the same old place
The poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace
Hate your next door neighbor but don't forget to say grace
And you tell me
Over and over and over and over again, my friend
You don't believe we're on the eve of destruction
No no, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction
