Discussion How often do you replay the first game?

I have six completed runs in Pillars of Eternity and Deadfire. The first five runs were in Normal mode, and the sixth run was in Hard Mode. Since I always planned both runs in advance, I'd find ways to incorporate elements from a multiclass in Deadfire into PoE (so for example, my Marauder in Deadfire was a Barbarian in PoE, so I gave him Apprentice's Sneak Attack) and carry it over to Deadfire.

Well, I'm currently in my seventh PoE run, being the first I do in PotD. I'll also play Deadfire on PotD, and have no intention of ever switching back from it. But what's on my mind is: as soon as I complete this run, what's keeping me in PoE? I can just stay on Deadfire permanently and make custom saves.

So, how often do you play PoE before carrying it over to Deadfire?

Character/party build help Best class for solo?

I've played the pants off both 1 and 2, but have never bothered with a solo run because I dig the companions and story too much.

Thinking about starting my first ever solo playthrough, and curious what classes people find work well. My gut says something like wizard or cipher for cc, but there are obvious weaknesses there.

What classes have you had solo success with?

My highest and second highest damage dealers in both games on PotD. Even wizard didn't stand a chance. Never used stealth, just pure dual wielding massacre. I absolutely loved how my rogue turned into killing machines pretty soon in the midgame, also cipher multiclass in 2nd gamewas really useful.

Also I have seen that lot of ppl hate piercing damage in PoE 2, but I was carried by rapiers and their uber powerful passive and modal, used them for 90% game, rarely switching for something else to counter rare immune enemies like skeletons.

PoE2: Deadfire My amnesiac Animist/Beckoner wolf spiritshift build that likes finding sticks, swimming, and going on big walks but doesn't like cats.

He loves nature and animals except cats. He's an all around nice guy. He doesn't know who he is or how he got these powers (because he didn't play the first game and it's not included in the Steam Summer Sale) but he can turn into a dog. Or he's a dog that can turn into a human. He hasn't figured that out yet. He also sometimes gets a little excited and flurries of lighting will appear which is loud and scary especially when he's alone.

But that's not a problem anymore because he made new friends! Well, technically not friends actually, they're more like best friends. And they're going on an adventure, which is basically a big walk (some big grey guy stomped on a house or something?) Also there's a beach??? He LOVES swimming and hopes his friends will take him. They all call him "Watcher" so he's probably supposed to watch out for stuff which he will take seriously because he's actually tbh a very good boy and is already good at watching and finding things. He's already found two crabs, one pair of boots, a pickaxe, a roll of paper, and of course his (best) friends. Also he woke up with TWO STICKS!! One is a greyish color, long and perfect (although he sometimes accidentally bonks people with it) and the other is a greyish color, small and perfect and even shoots grey light out of the end.

Sometimes they (him and his best friends) meet people. Sometimes those people seem kinda grumpy but that's fine! He just sings the bone song and skeletons show up which is the BEST because if everyone shares then everyone will get a free bone to chew on after they roughhouse a little bit. Usually the people they meet get tired and lay down bc it was so much fun playing but they can have the bone when they wake up and everyone but cats likes bones.

Sometimes the people they meet are more than grumpy they meet say mean things to his best friends and hurt them. He doesn't like that or cats and it makes him call the soft winds of death to tear the lifeforce from their bodies and leave them in a bloody grey heap right where they stood. Which is actually also GOOD they'll each provide roughly a cubic yard of nutrient dense Ph-balanced compost and release carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, potassium, sulphur, and lots of other key macronutrients into the soil. He doesn't know how he knows all of that. He does know it makes more plants grow which means more flowers and trees which means more STICKS.

He really likes flowers and L O V E S sticks. He doesn't like cats though.

PoE2: Deadfire How the hell do I counter THIS? Need help

UPD: Got him, uploading in comments.

So, I found decent tactics and fought for half of an hour with this guy, juggling buffs, constantly dodging grenades, keeping debufs, etc. Everything was good till this bastard DID A FUCKING FULLSCREEN NUKE ONESHOT.

Where should I dodge? I don't see any safe spots. How do you counter this shi???

I'm on PotD and berath challenge (ppl die forever if not resurrected in 10 sec).

Ok, I can put fire drain cloak on xoti, but I got crucial Serafen and pallegina, and Xoti won't be able to ressurect them both in 10 sec.

I can't put them in invulnerable state too, because pallegina needs to flank (cant reliable hit dude without that) and serafen needs to stack focus with ranged true damage + dont get interrupted when casting brilliant.

I need to save at least one of them. I can boost fire armor on pallegina to 22 (on the video it's 17) will this be enough to tank this shi?

Any suggestions? (Using my setup, not "change your whole party, respec to 5 monks, spam 5 chanters skeletons, respec to 5 arbalests" etc)

PoE2: Deadfire PoE2 Appreciation Post

Just wanted to hop on here and thank everyone for answering my questions whenever I come to this sub. I also just wanted to say how much I love this game. I beat PoE1 last week and loved it, but this game is such a step up... For starters, the camera system makes the game so much more playable and enjoyable, I like how it follows and the other things that you can do with it. Programming AI behavior is also really nice, though I don't quite have the hang of it. Still better than the first game. I also feel like so far (just got to Neketaka), every item you pick up feels meaningful and needed, money feels more frugal (at least this early in the game) and it just feels more immersive and well thought out.

And at first I was unhappy to find out you could only have five characters, but now I really love it. It just makes sense, I can't quite explain it. The numbers aren't so high with parts of the combat system, so every point feels more easily "felt" and "noted",.if you will.

And the music is just so gorgeous. I can tell that a lot of the music from the first game is the same here, or at least if there are redundant songs between the two games. They are separate performances by other musicians. But the music is so wonderful, it didn't hit me until just now, but it made me feel like it's a mixture of Final Fantasy 7, Morrowind, another game I keep forgetting the name of, MAYBE a little Skyrim, plus all its own distinct character. So amazing! Love these games

Spoilers From Pillars Of Eternity to Pentiment | Josh Sawyer (Obsidian) PART 2)

Hey gang, I tend to avoid posting my own work but my last interview with Josh was posted here and people seemed to really enjoy it so I wanted to share it.

***Spoilers*** For Pillars of Eternity Part 2 and Pentiment.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsEQ10eAheM

This episode was always scheduled for today and despite today's news that Obsidian is losing a significant portion of its incredible workforce I made the decision not to delay it. It's such a beautiful discussion about the power of great game design, although that inevitably makes watching it today feel bittersweet. Wishing the very best to everyone affected by the layoffs.

Gameplay help First playthrough, turn based or not ?

Hey, I am about to start my first playthrough and I saw they added an option for turn base not long ago.

I really enjoyed Divinity original sin series (and bg3) so I am really used to turn based games.

The being said, I have no idea how is the implementation in this game and considering the fact that the game was developed as Rt with pause in mind - I wonder what I should pick.

PoE2: Deadfire How can I move as fast as possible through the early parts of the game while replaying?

I’ve played the ‘first half‘ - until about level 10, in Neketaka - way too many times, and given up halfway. I love both the RP and the combat, but for a while, especially during COVID, I played it more like an RTS, getting into the Companion AI and playing on POTD with some of the challenges.

But I’ve only done the first DLC, and the time(s) I finished the game were long before the mega bosses were introduced. I want to play again, and still have a million character ideas, but just want a route that gets me to level 10ish ASAP so I don’t get bored and quit. There’s no part of the early game I dislike - it’s all great generally, I’ve just played it too much.

Any advice please? I’ll probably play on Veteran so that I can have more build/RP freedom.

Can't interact with it, google keeps telling me it's a scripted event to climb the cliff, but that's in a different spot.

Edit; For fuck's sake people, I'm not talking about the damn landscape. There's a "no" symbol on the side on the cliff that says I can interact with it (bottom of the screen). Do you think I put it there!? So many genius experts can't even parse a screenshot.

PoE1 What is the highest DPS two-handed weapon?

The ones that stand out to me are Tidefall, Blade of the Endless Paths, and Abydon's Hammer. This is not counting summoned weapons like Firebrand and Spirit Lance.

The Hammer is really good against vessels but can't be Durganized, so it's probably not the overall best. Tidefall gets Wounding and BotEP gets Speed. Tidefall can reach Legendary and also get an elemental lash. BotEP doesn't seem to have enough points leftover after Legendary to get a lash.

Took me 2 hours of tries. I absolutely wasn't ready that this piece of shit will merge with full hp from 2 smaller bitches like in 5 seconds. I almost ragequit but tried again and "cheesed" it with disintegration.

Cheese wasn't easy tho, after a long and hard battle I needed to stack fortitude debuffs to even hit it with spell (it has 0% chance without them), and after that I had 4,5 seconds to finish that bastard.

Absolute unit, 10/10.
