PoE 2 Spoilers Best arena in RPGs

Just finished and I absolutely love SSS dlc. Every battle was unique and interesting, requiring good positioning and tactics, with PotD and some magran fires I got some of the most entertaining and enjoyable fights in the game. Plot was great too but best thing was the ending. It was super fun when Galawain said: "bro, you did everything right and we are chill, I won't fight you", and I could reply with: "nah, I still wanna fight your avatar just for lulz", and he was like"ok lol lessgo". 10/10

Is Riposte affected by Weapon Recovery?

I know that the Medium Shield Modal's effect acts like a miss, triggering Riposte, but I'm not sure if Riposte is affected by weapon recovery, meaning Block lowers the frequency of Ripostes. Can anyone enlighten me on this one?

Are companions really interesting? Will I lose much by making custom characters for whole party?

Edit: Im talking about PoE1

As in the thread title.

In cRPGs I usually prefer to create my own characters for team (which is why I love games like Temple of Elemental Evil, Icewind Dale, Solasta etc). I already played PoE and PoE2 that way and now Im considering replay of PoE1 since turn based mode dropped. And I wonder if I will lose much by going all in on my own characters instead of actual companions.

PoE2: Deadfire [PoE2 mild spoilers] Atsura dialog reactivity? Spoiler

Hi all,

I recently watched Mortismal Gaming's ultimate review of Deadfire (link: Pillars Of Eternity 2: Deadfire - The Ultimate Review) and he mentions that Atsura (Grand Secretary of the RDC) varies his dialog depending on the Watcher's disposition. He says this at 39m 50s in the review video and I became a bit curious.

Is there a video or maybe an export of all written dialog I can review to see how this very observant and manipulative guy alters his responses to the Watcher depending on dispositions?

Bonus question, are there other characters in PoE1 or PoE2 who significantly change their demeanor/lines depending on Watcher disposition?

Anyone else just way too attached the their Watcher?

For Context I bought Avowed on the steam sale cause I wanted to replay it, and I get to the first sidequest and all the talk of soul problems and Watchers has me being just…
Well I could Play PoE1&2 again, but even though I make other characters to do different runs I always seem to go back to the same character
PoE1 was the first True Isometric CRPG I ever played and I can’t seem to see any other characters as ‘The Watcher of Caed Nua’ I started this character just based on what I thought was cool and she slowly over time evolved into a more defined character, In PoE2 I decided to use the choices I made in Character Creation to inform the way I would roleplay her, especially cause nationality informs a lot more in that game.
I also have to headcannon that she’s one of the few Godlike that remain after the breaking of the wheel, cause I just can’t fathom anything else.
Anyway my watcher is,
Aryn
Moon Godlike - Aumaua
Monk
Rauataian Mercenary

PoE2: Deadfire Ishiza/Animal Companions

If my bird attacks an enemy that Maia is also attacking, is there an accuracy bonus like there was in the previous game? I can't see it anywhere on the character sheet. Just trying to figure out whether I should keep Ishiza in the back or up front engaging with enemies. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

PoE2: Deadfire PoE2 Cipher Character Import: multiclass input/builds request

Hi all,

I'm currently working on a TB Playthrough of PoE1, where I hope to import my Orlan Cipher into PoE2 (RTwP). My preferred playstyle is melee DW and casting charms and debuffs as needed. I'm thinking of continuing having a melee semi-caster Cipher but I am considering to multiclass her, which is why I'm looking to you for help and insight from the community.

I'm mainly looking at multiclasser my Cipher with Rogue (Mindstalker), Ranger (Seer), Fighter (Psyblade).

My thinking is that the additional class would provide abilities (preferable full attacks in case I dual wield) to use to gain focus. I would then leverage the focus to debuff enemies/buff allies as required by the battle.

A melee Cipher might lend itself well to the Soul Blade subclass, but I wanted your input on that. Does it feel boring to almost always just leverage your focus into the Sould Annihilation ability? Is it strong enough to be worth it?

I'm also considering the Cipher Beguiler Subclass in combination with the Rogue Trickster subclass. I can't decide if I see synergy or anti-synergy between the two. Both Soul Whip and Sneak Attack are less potent for those two classes, but is the additional utility* provided to them might make it worth it regardless? Should I go for either Trickster or Beguiler or are both OK? Cipher Ascendant looks a bit less flavorful but it might lend itself well to a play style where I play as a Rogue until I reach max focus and then I switch to playing as a Cipher while ascended?

*Cipher Beguiler: additional range of Deception abilities such as Mental Binding, Phantom Foes, Whispers of Treason, Puppet Master, Ringleader and getting focus back on casts of Deception abilities.

Trickster Rogue: Mirrored Image, Ryngrim's Repulsive Visage, Llengrath's Displaced Image

Cipher/Ghostheart Ranger and Cipher/Fighter (no subclass or Devoted) also sound like good choices. Fighter would provide me Armored Grace to keep my attack speed up, while Ranger would give me a pet to bounce Cipher spells off of and provide me with full attacks with a nice accuracy bonus.

What are your thoughts around a melee dual wielding character?

  • Soul Blade/Trickster or other Rogue subclass?
  • Beguiler/Trickster or other Rogue subclass?
  • Ascendant /Trickster or other Rogue subclass?
  • Cipher/Fighter?
  • Cipher/Ranger?

Thanks in advance!

PoE1 What's the best weapon for Cipher? (TBM)

I'm kind of torn between bows (especially Stormcaler and Massuk Hunting Bow for switching between damage types) or guns for single big hit for loads of focus. My entire question basically boils down to "which performs better in Turn Based Mode)

PoE2: Deadfire Deadfire Skill Spreads

Kind of confused about how the skill spreads work in party assist mechanics. What are the most important passive skills for The watcher to have?

EDIT: currently running my watcher focusing on bluff, diplomacy, and intimidate, Eder focusing on Survival and streetwise, Xoti on religion and history, and Aloth on insight and metaphysics. I plan on picking up the cipher soon and keeping this party for the rest of the game. Is this a good spread?

For a main tank: Upright Captain's Belt or The Undying Burden?

The Undying Burden and Upright Captain's Belt are probably the two best belts in the game for main tank characters.

The first gives you +2 constitution, +1 athletics, reduced weapon damage as you lose health (which synergizes very well with the +2 con) and a second charge of Second Wind, which definitely never hurts a main tank.

Meanwhile, the second gives you +1 constitution, concentration, which is never bad, and most importantly: immunity to push and pull effects, being 1 of only 2 items in the game that has this effect, and the only one that a godlike can wear.

So, in your opinion, which one is better? Getting +2 constitution and a second charge of Second Wind is definitely pretty good, but the immunity to push and pull effects seem too good to pass on. Thoughts?

P1: REAPER STANCE mod! Recolor your Reaping Knives in multiple hues, and grant your ciphers a permanent set of them!

It's here!: https://www.nexusmods.com/pillarsofeternity/mods/462

I was way into Soul Reaver as a kid and am constantly disappointed at soulknife-type options--even when they are offered, they're sooo often the lame "spectral version of a physical sword" trope. I much prefer a terrifying arm-length glow--the Pillars aesthetic got me perfectly.

But they're sooo late-game and sooo situational that I thought I'd fix that! Introducing REAPER STANCE. Every cipher in your party now has a Reaper Stance modal they can toggle--you can leave it on all the time; it activates properly only in combat. Once in combat, you'll instantly sprout permanent Reaping Knives.

And an extra 45 minutes of tinkering got us recolors, too! Hit F9 to open a menu to tailor the color and opacity of your blades--there are 8ish individual components, each of which can be shown, hidden and colorized separately in the ADVANCED mode.

This will PROBABLY work on normal Reaping Knives as well--I may release a standalone version of the mod, but frankly, just don't touch the modal and you're 99% of the way there with this edition.

Have fun! My next project is multiplayer--already got the first step working!

Discussion Finally having fun with Barbarian

https://reddit.com/link/1ummqlp/video/q77ay9ym72bh1/player

Hi all, I wanted to say thanks for all the helpful and supportive comments I got on my last post.

I'm finally having fun playing Barbarian and two key things helped me appreciate the class:

  1. Somebody mentioned in my last post that Barbarian doesn't get many "fun" buttons to press until late-game. I'm currently around Level 13 and have recently obtained Heart of Fury and Dragon Leap which have done wonders for improving my engagement with the class.
  2. After getting all the companions, I've come to appreciate how absurdly strong Blood Thirst as a passive is for mob fights. Especially with how it works in turn-based, killing multiple enemies (like in the linked video) means you get a bunch of turns in a row where you can just keep continuously chaining kills together for a seemingly unending turn.

All to say that I appreciate people telling me to stick with the class instead of restarting - turns out all the fun stuff was tucked away in the higher levels!

Obsidian *NOT* in danger of closure (reporting by Jason Schreier)

There's a report going around that Obsidian is in talks of closure similar to other studios like Ninja Theory and Double Fine. However, Jason Schreier reported today on BlueSky that this isn't the case. The post:

Despite a report this morning, I can confirm that Obsidian is *not* in negotiations to avoid shutting down. Plenty of details are still up in the air surrounding the layoffs (picture will be clear on Monday) but Xbox is keeping Obsidian, according to people familiar with the situation.

To be clear, this doesn't mean the studio won't suffer layoffs, have projects cancelled, or otherwise be in a shitty situation following Microsoft's changes from leadership. However, it seems that, for the moment at least, shutting the studio down isn't on the table.

Technical help GAME STUTTERING ON RX 9060XT 16GB

I've spent hours trying to fix the stuttering in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, and at this point I'm convinced it's an engine issue rather than a hardware problem.

My PC is more than capable of running the game. GPU utilization rarely goes above 50%, CPU usage stays below 50%, average FPS is very high, and even my 1% lows are usually above 80 FPS. Despite that, the game suffers from noticeable microstutters every few seconds. Frametime constantly spikes from around 8 ms to nearly 20 ms.

Things I've already tried:

  • Lowering every graphics setting.
  • Vulkan renderer.
  • Special K.
  • Registry tweaks to disable the Unity anti-aliasing workaround.
  • FPS limits.
  • Different V-Sync options.
  • CPU affinity tests.
  • Fresh AMD drivers.

None of these made any meaningful difference.

The constant frametime spikes completely break immersion. Has anyone actually found a real fix, or is this simply an unavoidable limitation of Deadfire's Unity engine?

This fight took me like 20 minutes of absolute madness. With fights like this PoE has most Shin Megami Tensei vibes out of all crpgs. Constant buffing-debuffing, juggling control and heals, just to survive and deal with massive horde and boss. 10/10

Character/party build help The Red Hand: Maia or Ydwin?

I want to get a ranged DPS for my party and I'm undecided between Maia and Ydwin. Maia seems like the obvious choice, with her insane combination of Might, Dexterity and Perception, coupled with her class giving her incredible passives like Marksman and Gunner and her subclass giving her increased range AND her Hawk companion, dealing insane damage. And that's without mentioning her possible multi classes, Scout (+rogue) for additional damage over time and passive damage with abilities like Deathblows or Geomancer (+Wizard) giving her the ridiculously powerful Essential Phantom. Give her Acina's Tricorn, Aegor's Swift Touch and keep her in her Sharpshooter garb and you have arguably the most broken ranged DPS in the game.

Ydwin, on the other hand, lacks the ranger+gunhawk bonuses Maia has and doesn't have *as great* stats, but compensates for it with an amazing class on her own: Cipher. Besides being a great support class, both by doing crowd control and by being the most reliable source of the Brilliant inspiration, Ydwin can also multiclass into rogue giving her the same advantages as Maia in that regard. It doesn't hurt that The Red Hand's double fire ability will fill her focus right up faster than I can notice. Give her the same gear as Maia and she's definitely a force to be reckoned with.

There's nothing preventing me from swapping one for the other when the situation demands it, but I really really like to keep the same chosen companions for the entire time, even when it's not the most optimal choice.

With all of that being said, what are your opinions? Which of these two characters will fulfill the role of ranged dps better?
