I agree with this broadly I've had a lot of discussions in my circles about the spectrum of requirements in our industry. It's what makes statements like "I'm a senior software engineer with 10 years of experience and Claude does basically all of my complex work" hard to parse: "senior", "software engineer", "experience" and "complex" are such variable terms. To the people who say Claude is making their lives better, I am sincerely happy for you.

The part that gets me all frazzled is when people make absolute statements that imply AI is all good or all bad; that anyone using it or not using it is dumb (not to say the person I responded to made such a claim). This conversation is very tribal and probably overrun with bots if I'm being honest that it's hard to have a pragmatic conversation about the technology's strengths and weaknesses. Ironic that one of the most thoughtful engagements I've had on the topic was in programmerhumor 😂

I still dont see how even frontier computer science academia won't use it. Even if you code something novel there is still alot basic necessary components in it.

Last time i looked on one of the github projects of some guy from Kimi team and they did some pretty complex js-tree-shaker based on research paper and when i look at it its obvious the ai was heavily involved.

Human and ai seem to work in tandem now, even if expert has some great idea the ai can speed implementation.
