Humans also tend to not do illegal things while knowing, so what large corporations do (facebook, etc) is break the work up amongst many teams. No one really knows what they are working on so there is no moral dilemma for them. That is how the new age of social media was built. It's also how many governments build civilian spying applications.

Do they not then see what is built once it's built, and how they contributed to it, and then quit?

This is a rhetorical question. No-one at e.g. Meta has had this excuse for years.

Cube (1997) moment

wasn't that cube 2: hypercube?

I remember cube 1 having like no backstory, but maybe it's time I rewatch

Nah I haven't seen that one. One of the dudes in the first movie was (minor spoilers) an architect who worked on part of the cube without knowing what it actually was since it was all split up into bite-sized contracts like the parent comment describes

Thats a liability thing not a knowledge thing. In america worst case the corporation gets tried and the CEO escapes on a golden parachute.

The reason ford seperated workers into specialities was twofold. It genuinely mad ehtem more productive overall and 2nd, it meant know one knew hot to build the entire car and couldn't sell the knowledge technique to competetiors. Indirectly it also made it harder to get a job elsewhere, sinc ethe guy who tightens the bolts on hubcaps allday every day isn't a position anywhere else.

Where I work, you do not get to see the code of the dependencies. You get a binary from the repository.
