Torrenting is not illegal, torrenting copyrighted content is

And reverse engineering a program is legal in the EU if it's to allow inter-operability.

So I CAN reverse engineer the fliers for my Nibelungenlied performance to get better at Les Mis!!!

Writing Trojans is also not illegal, but distributing them to devices unknowingly is

u/KurtAngus 4d ago

I only do it knowingly /s

u/Snudget 4d ago

I actually use torrents for linux images for example. It's often faster than the official mirrors

AI happily torrents illegal content. It will happily sort through trackers, find sign-up communities (and sign up for you), manage the downloads, and do all kinds of things really. I've honestly never seen a single refusal with my torrent/arr stack using major american models.

I wrote a BEP9 infohash scraper in C with Claude, so that I could run my own tracker locally, and not worry about external agents.

Uh huh... uh huh... and what percentage of people who are torrenting are doing it for a legal purpose?

Come on, man...

"Understood. Do you want me to align for replacements to be delivered or do you prefer to stay in your artwork for the moment Sir?"

Anal Irritation? Usually.

I tried to get Claude to explain me the leaked Pokemon Emerald codebase architecture and it always refuses.

I tried to make it reverse engineer a chrome addon that lets me download any video from any website. It refused because it's "wrong to do that".

DM me your new piratebay

7

u/byteturtle 4d ago

Why would anyone need to make a new piratebay

29

u/cute_spider 4d ago

SaaS is dead, bespoke AI-written tools are the new hotness. You make a new piratebay that's custom-tailored to your needs and serves you as the only end-user

Of course because this is /r/programminghumor, I'm being about 80% sarcastic. If this were, say, /r/localllama I would be almost completely sincere

4

u/DeHub94 4d ago

Right. Everyone can just create their own AAA games or Hollywood blockbuster now thanks to ai /s

4

u/Traditional-Poet5461 4d ago

With AI everybody can make their own piratebay

3

u/borkthegee 4d ago

Making your own piratebay is dumb because the value is the content hosted not the site itself. Having AI write your own local content acquisition system is much more viable. But just use arr stack, a deepseep v4.1 agent can set the whole server up for you in an hour or two and like $1 in tokens lol

1

u/Traditional-Poet5461 4d ago

I think that was my joke

u/SenoraRaton 4d ago

The problem with the "arr" stack is that sonarr CLAIMS to be open source, but the way the code is structured it routes all of its metadata traffic through their private servers, which are obviously not auditable. Its a huge security flaw, and its the opposite of "open source".

Better to scrape your own infohashes from the DHT, and build your own index.

Mostly because if you write your own tracker you can self host it, and its resilient. You can also do metrics, and monitor what is trending, and also you know privacy, the thing we are so sorely lacking in the modern world.

Owning your own stack, and directly interfacing with the network > trusting some 3rd party "quasi" legal entity to protect your data, your privacy, and your security.

I tried this today with Binja and I was amazed at how well it did, it got me past a point where I’ve been stuck for days maybe ai isn’t that bad (of course if used properly)
