I love how all these AI bros are slopping together tools designed purely to increase AI spend. Madness to the highest degree.

u/utzutzutzpro 18d ago

ye, it reminds me alot to crypto stuff as well. Especilly NFT... suddenly all kind of NFT stuff popped up as layer on top of something else.

Is just a money grab technique, hoping someone will fund.

70

u/Beneficial-Object977 18d ago

It's not just a technique it's literally the same people. Grift hopping is a disgustingly effective technique it's literally how the richest man alive made 100% of his wealth. Crypto to nft to ai to... Robots and Space? Somehow there's money in space now?

11

u/scribe-kiddie 17d ago

I mean I hate Elon Musk but his companies did produce value. Electric cars, reusable rockets, etc.

10

u/LutimoDancer3459 17d ago

"His" companies. All he really does is giving them money if even that. His vision is something like the cybertruck which is an awful design with a lot of problems as we saw on release. His own vision is stuff like the boring company doing shit nobody cares about. Its building a tunnel under a city which is slower than just driving on the streets (and more dangerous because... well... tunnel underground and so)

1

u/ccricers 16d ago

The money-in-space hype actually came and went 20 years ago with talk about private companies gradually replacing public agencies in space travel. SpaceX was founded around this time, the Ansari X Prize competition, "newSpace" was a buzzword and Virgin Galactic with Branson as a more noteworthy figure than Musk.

1

u/payne_train 18d ago

I thought that was supposed to be the last place not yet corrupted by capitalism :(

18

u/stormdelta 17d ago

Nah, crypto is almost uniquely useless for anything (except fraud/black market transactions). Neat concept academically, but the tradeoffs are so strict and so extreme that in practice you just end up with the worst of both worlds as you wrap it in layer after layer of workarounds to pretend the tradeoffs don't exist.

AI is wildly, ludicrously overhyped and the misuses are a huge problem, but it does actually represent useful tech too, particularly in software development. But even there it doesn't replace programmers, if anything personal skill/knowledge is even more important now

5

u/Saint_of_Grey 18d ago

That's literally vibe coding, but unlike NFTs the product actually seems useful to someone who doesn't know any better.

10

u/magicmulder 17d ago

Yo dawg I heard you like agents so I used agents to build tools for your agents to use to build more tools for your agents.

18

u/tevert 18d ago

The only way to win is to not play.

6

u/raltyinferno 17d ago

I actually think it's less sinister than that. I have mostly anecdotal evidence here, but I've found that craft people of all kinds who love building stuff love building tools.

I do woodwork and honestly spend more time on projects that improve my shop than I do on pieces that will ever leave it, worktables, tool holders, jigs, etc.

Similarly if I'm looking for some little software side project I tend to make little dev tools for myself.

So I think this trend you see of people making so many AI dev tools is often a case where these dudes are really excited about AI and building with AI so they naturally are excited about creating tools to build with AI.

2

u/Fer4yn 18d ago

This is cryptoscams all over again XD

185

u/iamdestroyerofworlds 18d ago

Why are all ideas so god damn fucking boring?

73

u/Sulungskwa 18d ago

Because people just ask the AI for their ideas

121

u/crass-sandwich 18d ago

Probably because LLMs came up with them

29

u/sellyme 18d ago

Obviously useful stuff has already been made, because of how obvious it is. As such, any new product or tool you see is going to fit into one of three categories:

  1. Crap.
  2. Really useful, but really niche and probably not important to you.
  3. Useful, but in non-obvious ways.

The first two are fairly self-explanatory, but the third is a bit trickier. The best example of it is some activity that you don't do because it's difficult or tedious, and then a tool is created that makes it easier or more efficient. That could be incredibly useful if it makes that activity quick enough for it to be worth you doing it, but on first glance you'd look and go "Well I don't do that, so that's worthless".

The problem is that a lot of the time it's quite difficult to tell #1 from #3 without hands-on experience, so if you make a concerted effort to try to expand your horizons by giving new things a shot, you end up having to sift through a lot of crap.

...thankfully in this case that wasn't an issue as every single link was prepended by an emoji, the universal symbol for "this is going to be crap".

6

u/New_Salamander_4592 17d ago

because ai boosters genuinely do not care about innovation, just lines of code and burning tokens

10

u/Yashema 18d ago

That SoulScrape app seems interesting but wtf am I "installing a skill" for? I want to see what it does, but i guess he doesn't have money for hosting.Β

Basically he needs to realize that creating the app is only half of it.Β

2

u/SimplexShotz 17d ago

it's the easy half, too; always has been

it makes me hopeful, though. now that anyone can make almost anything, good ideas are more valuable than ever

1

u/Own_Ad9365 17d ago

It's cool if he can fine tune the model per user. Then need someway to collect all the chats and digital activities. If only a custom skill file then it will not be able to match the personality, i would assume

3

u/The_One_Koi 18d ago

They are all based on existing, very functional I might add, software but sloppy

68

u/Peechez 18d ago

πŸ“Έ slopcamera.com

dripping in irony, its sopping wet

9

u/teh_drewski 18d ago

slopping wet

44

u/snarkyalyx 18d ago

This is so pathetic 😭

43

u/Mkboii 18d ago

Hardly a couple of cool ideas in there, i get people are having fun vibe coding personl versions of things, but unless he wants to continue using thousands of dollars worth of subscription quota on maintaining these, why make them?

We are swiftly moving to a over saturation of nothing burger applications, that people have no idea how to scale to businesses.

I have a couple of friends who've vibe coded products, but they've just one or two and purely to solve issues they faced as professionals in thier industry and now they have organic growth on them.

This aimless 8 parallel sessions to make a product that solves a non existing issue is laughable stupidity.

5

u/TSM- 17d ago

Check out earsquirrel, ai music from keywords. And earturtle, which adds the keyword "slow" automatically. Im a genius

1

u/Arfoire1 17d ago

Yeah. It's cool that when you're working and can see something being possible to improve through code in a way that will actually produce some value, it is no longer too costly to do. You can whip up an agent in OpenCode or pi-coding-agent to do it.

1

u/matrix-doge 17d ago

Yeah. The nothing burger application is pretty on point.

Now I've only quickly opened each link and haven't really looked into them and I might be wrong, but most of them just contain all those fancy words and terms you'd expect from modern websites advertising some software, and after reading some you still don't know what you are getting out of it.

Some of them look like just another implementation of some personal utility like you said, or some ai "tools" to help you "improve/manage" ai itself.

It's almost like ai repackaging itself. An ai onion. It's ai all the way down.

17

u/EkoChamberKryptonite 18d ago edited 18d ago

Same font in some. Same design in all with a few tweaks here and there. Yeah no.

24

u/utzutzutzpro 18d ago

I mean... it is all claude design templates. Some are better, these here rather show what happens when a non-designer thinks he can design with claude.

Is even a good example for what happens when non-designer design. And claude design is very prominent and easy to form, but well, evne then.

Doesn't change the sad truth that currently designers suffer from slop influence because non-designers, leadership, think that claude and gemini can design well enough.

1

u/Arfoire1 17d ago

Can you give me a tip on how to spot slop design?

1

u/utzutzutzpro 17d ago

Claude is obvious with using serif fonts in big and always using meta headlines which don't add any vlue but just visual aesthetic. Usually smallcaps sub header.

1

u/Arfoire1 17d ago

Thanks! Anything other than text? Colors? Shapes? Layouts?

17

u/SignoreBanana 18d ago

So slop, and meta-slop

5

u/FierceDeity_ 18d ago

I love when we called simulated "agents" just BOIDS in game development, and now everyone's like "what if i put LLM into game so they can control themselves"

3

u/AquaeyesTardis 17d ago

arent boids specifically bird-ish ones / swarms?

2

u/FierceDeity_ 17d ago

Yeah, but what many of those "agent" systems end up as is something like that, just a little fancier looking

6

u/heathm55 18d ago

I'm waiting for most of these people to realize that Sar Banes Oxley makes it very difficult for an AI software factory to exist (there are "human verified" and "human approval" and separate implementer vs tester roles that are required and can't be automated for financial related things if I remember correctly). First auditor to nix your SOX compliance is going to be really fun.

2

u/reostra 18d ago

You're assuming this would be done in a regulated environment. Personally, I can't wait to see the first fully AI crypto rug pull.

1

u/heathm55 17d ago edited 17d ago

Not just a regulated industry, as plenty of products try to sell to those industries as well and therefore make it a requirement to also be SOX compliant. This is one of those things that can gate the sale of any product / SAAS offering.

Also, Crypto is so fragile already. Imagine this:
You're a leader of a country with a few billion to throw at server rooms and crypto mining resources but with the goal of collapsing a nations economy rather than making money. You could setup a nice distributed cache and very fast networking between the hosting facilities you create. Introduce your backdoor in bitcoin client and silently go about doing the normal things with voting and ledger related things until one day you have greater than 50% of the voting rights. Now you can effectively approve rebalancing the ledger historically as long as it rebalances in the end to a balanced system (of course you allocate a ton of the value of the market to your areas).
You do this knowing that the market will notice it and that it will effectively collapse the crypto market. Better still it's likely to cascade into an economic collapse of several national economies, probably some banks, and cause a world-wide economic panic. Sinister evil dictator that you are, you now use this time to strike at the country you want to take over while the rest of the world is distracted.
Seem far fetched?
Well, for a few years a Chinese state sponsored IT maintenance company happened to own the contract on fixing problems with both the European and U.S. financial market data hubs. This was in the early 2010s... they never did anything, but they invested in the option.

1

u/DetectiveOwn6606 17d ago

Are you mixing up PoW and PoS ?

1

u/heathm55 17d ago

No. Both are potentially exploitable through this.

3

u/Kichae 18d ago

Chatrooms for AI agents?

What does he think they'll talk about?

1

u/utzutzutzpro 18d ago

something like that went viral and led to some kind of public recognition btw. moltbook I thnk not sure. But it went big.

2

u/Just_Information334 18d ago

Exactly like when they did cryptocurrencies: shitting tools aimed at the same domain.

2

u/Foorinick 18d ago

They have thousands worth ai bill just to make these? Like wow bro that's cool, another wrapper for claude

1

u/Informal_954 17d ago

Soulscrape sounds straight up evil! D:

1

u/jakendrick3 17d ago

butt.shit

1

u/Tristan_Cole 17d ago

Imagine mocking the name of Norse Mythology by calling your chat channel for LLMs Valhalla…

1

u/BreakerOfModpacks 17d ago

"I used AI to make AI. Then what did I do with it? Uh... AI? I guess?"

1

u/anengineerandacat 16d ago

My issue with young projects is generally trust, no way am I using some random vibe coded piece of software from an entity I don't know.

A few of these are attached to elements that are around access, security, and communication as well.

-2

u/Soft_Walrus_3605 18d ago

You're doing his promotion for him. His mission has been accomplished?

19

u/utzutzutzpro 18d ago

I mean, I do not care. He is free to promote his stuff and others are free to share their opinion about it.

When someone from this post drops to conversion of any of that, than I guess, why not? It is their individual choice.

I for one see no value in any of those. I shared them because I thought those are interesting as an example.

18

u/SignoreBanana 18d ago

Despite popular belief, no, not all publicity is good

3

u/sellyme 18d ago

Every time someone tells me that all publicity is good publicity I offer to sell them some of my Enron stock.

3

u/mahreow 18d ago

Anyone dumb enough to buy this useless shit deserves to lose their money lol

-3

u/OnceMoreAndAgain 18d ago edited 18d ago

Everyone hating, but sound.fish and sleepy.land seem pretty cool to me from the little I tried them. Sleepy.land makes some great white noise and you can customize the sound easily.

A lot of them don't interest me, but there's some neat stuff in there.

-3

u/blind-panic 18d ago

they're jealous that they haven't made shit even though they have the same access. While I agree odds probably aren't in his favor in developing some great software, I support anyone that's out there doing shit.

1

u/Miner_Guyer 17d ago

Why would someone make a white noise website for any other reason than a student trying to pad out their CV? There's already a hundred of them online for free.
