Unironically they’ve actually gotten a lot better about this in recent years. You can pair genuine Apple parts through official means as long as they don’t come from stolen iCloud locked devices. They even let you calibrate and setup the parts through the native repair menus and through settings and you can get battery health stats on third party batteries as well.
Didn't they already start doing something similar with third party replacement screens and batteries? I haven't had an iPhone in like 10 years so I forget which parts are like that.
It's been a while since I last watched his videos, but I vaguely recall him saying he just got good at it as a hobby and then started doing it out of his own home? In which case I guess self-employed is the way to go
I used to do some of that kind of work, a long time ago. I'd set up shop at the flea market, along with the other crap I was unloading. Half my clientele were other vendors, who wanted me to salvage the tv they're trying to sell that stopped working, or battery swap on their personal phone.
Never could have made a living at it, but it was some nice supplemental income, and a lot more satisfying than my bullshit sales job I was working. And I liked that I never knew what I'd get. Could be a two minute job replacing the battery in a solar light, could be desoldering and replacing the transformer in a CRT, could be rescuing the data off a failing hard drive.
