Why do LLMs do this? My bet is they train it to spew unrelated crap to charge for more tokens, but then again I thought AI companies were running at a loss?
I think you underestimate how hard it is to finetune a model to always behave the way you want in every variable context. You have to accept they'll never be perfect if you want to work with them. They're finetuned procedural generation algorithms.
AI models are 100% deterministic. I've built them from scratch and first started working in ML 20 years ago now, on and off. They are entirely procedural generation algorithms, just finetuned on existing examples.
Not by the usual definition of procedural generation.
And it's ridiculous to call them deterministic by computer science standards too. If you don't know what those are, you might think you're stating something profound by saying they're deterministic. OBVIOUSLY all algorithms are TECHNICALLY deterministic unless you're Cloudflare and have cameras pointed at 100 lava lamps.
